As titled. I find MMU drying no matter which brand I use especially in the winter. In the summer, it might be fine. I moisturized well b4 I applied too but it seems dull and cakey. It doesn't seem to give the natural dewy look that liquid foundation gives.
Also, I found that MMU makes my skin dry throughout the day and accentuates my dehydration lines. So it looks patchy here and there My skin seems fine without any powder on but it looks dry once I applied it.
I know MMU is supposed to be good for your skin without all those chemicals but are there anyone out there that's using reg. foundation and see any difference in your skin. Or those that are using MMU? |

Stardustdy, have you tried spritzing with a moisture spray after you apply? That has made ALL the difference in the world for me. Sometimes, when the weather is really dry, no matter how well I moisturize before I apply my MMU, my skin still looks dry and flakey afterwards. However, I've found that misting my face with Zenbiotic's Moisture Enrich not only sets my MMU so it lasts all day, it also gives my skin that dewy, moist glow that you sometimes find with more traditional foundations. I would totally recommend trying the Moisture Enrich before you give up on MMU altogether--- it has seriously made such a huge difference for me. Here's the link for where to buy it:

thanks manslayerliz! I did spritz afterwards with PSF toner or Caudalie grape water but it's still the same. I found that the spray sometimes smudge my makeup too cuz instead of a fine mist, droplets of water came out
geez.....I sound stupid .... |

Hi......My suggestions would be to exfoliate your skin every two to three days, make sure that your moistuizer is fully absorbed before putting on your mineral makeup and make sure you are not applying too much. Use oil absorbing sheets throughout the day if needed instead of applying more makeup, since that could make you appear "cakey". Hope that helps.
I was going to give up on minerals too, but then I switched brands and it made all the difference. Youngblood cosmetics carry a liquid mineral makeup that is more hydrating you might want to try. It'll give you a more dewy appearance and the ingredients seem pretty natural as far as liquid makeup goes.
Good luck! |

I've given up on MMU, not matter which brand I tried as well, they still did not look as good as non mineral liquid foundation on me. Also I found it took longer to apply as well. |

I couldn't stand the mess for one. I also think that I look more natural with a liquid or tinted moisturizer. I felt more made up with mmu. I will add that I recently received a sample of NCN's liquid minerals and I like it very much. |

Hi CMAYC, do u have the ingredients for the Youngblood liquid mineral? I wanna see what's in there first.
Yeah I guess I can switch to liquid minerals like many of u suggested. But sometimes I would be thinking, the reason why we all go Minerals is cuz to avoid the harsh chemicals. But then, our sunscreen has chemicals too so isn't it the same?? ![Confused](images/smiles/confused.gif) |

No problem! Actually, I think Grape Wate works fine for summer, however, if you're dealing with hydration/skin texture issues, it's not going to do a darn thing. Actually sometimes when my skin is dry I mist with Grape Water without thinking about it, and when it dries and my skin looks bad I just mist on the Phyto Moisture and it fixes everything. So, even if regular misting doesn't work, a moisture mist might help! (Also, I don't know where my mind is today, but I meant to type "Phyto Moisture" in my original response. Phyto Moisture is the moisture spray, and Moisture Enrich is the intensive oil moisturizer.... d'oh!) |

I tried to copy and paste the ingredients but it wouldn't let me. If you go to the Youngblood cosmetics website, click on "about Youngblood" and it'll take you to the ingredient list of all their products. |

I'm in the same camp, except I'm 40, so the fact that it looks dry and cakey is even worse I still like the Alima blush, though. |

I was about to give up then I found Susan Posnick MMU. It is very finely milled and doesn't dull the glow on your face. I put it on with the brush then go over my skin with a sponge to rub off any excess. It fills in pores nicely too and lasts all day. It is also SPF 26. |

Have you tried Mineral Boutique with vitamin e, Lumiere Fairly Flawless or Barefaced Minerals? Those are good for dry skin. What moisturizer are you using? That can make all the difference in the world.
Also using rose based skincare made my skin produce oil again after so many years of dryness. Its a great oil for dry skin. I usewww.mariechantal.ca |

I found it's too complicated to use and brush is expensive. I like creamy foundation instead now. |

I would like to suggest a moisturizer: Dove Sensitive Essentials lotion. I have tried other, more expensive face stuff, but this is the best hydrator I've ever used. It sinks right in, leaves my skin plump and even (no dehydration to be found!). It has ceramides, shea, and oatmeal. And, it's so inexpensive.
Then, I would like to suggest the Everyday Minerals flat top brush. Before, using another brush, I would have to mist my MMU, but not with this one. APplication is so smooth and even, and there's no makeup left sitting on top of my face. Another trick is to use a cosmetic sponge and press the makeup into your face and also wipe away where it may crease during the day-- for me, it's under the eyes and the creases around my mouth, where I smile. Also, it's important to find the right shade of MMU. If you have a perfect match, it won't look cakey. Anothe rreason to love Everyday Minerals, because you can keep getting sample kits until you find the best one for you.
HTH! |

No way will I give up on my MMU! It's been a godsend for me. I was finding that my skin looked a little dry during the winter, no matter how much moisturizer I used prior to application so I went back to a sample of liquid minerals from NCN. The first time I tried this I didn't really like it, but when my skin is drier I liked it better. I also found that applying liquid minerals with a brush is MUCH better than using my fingers to apply, I think that made all the difference in the world.
I don't really cover all over either. I'll use a little bit of concealer where I need it, dust on a very light layer of MMU, then dust on silk/pearl powder and mist. I look fresh, even, natural without being overdone.
I'll never, ever use conventional foundation again. |

I have also given up on MMU, not only do I think it clogs my pores, but it always accentuated my dry flaky patches. It does not give me the fresh dewy look as liquid foundation. |

Athena, the NCN liquid mmu is quite nice. I've not tried a brush with it yet but will tomorrow. I'm testing shades now.
Hi Amylola, I've been thinking about you! Have you ever noticed how apologetic people get about not liking mmu? ![Confused](images/smiles/confused.gif) |

Au contraire Stardust, if you check out the ingredients for NCN or Mad Minerals [same distributor I think] you'll see that liquid mineral MMU doesn't have all the chemical crapola that standard liquid foundations do. ![Very Happy](images/smiles/biggrin.gif) |

Hi Blues, when I first tried NCN liquid MMU, I think the problem was that I was applying it right on top of my pearl paste without allowing it to sink in and it kind of balled up on me. I would also try to use it like regular liquid foundation by applying little tiny dots all over, then going back to blend it in only to find it had already dried, so I got a really uneven surface as well.
It works much better if you apply a primer or sunscreen with silicones first, then I squeeze a little liquid MMU into my hand and pounce the tips of my skunk brush into it and stipple it all over my face. After the stippling, I take the skunk brush and rub it in a circular motion for a more airbrushed look. |

Hey Blues!
I know i tried so hard to like it, I've tried so many brands, bought all kinds of brushes, spitzers, and I just can't figure it out. I just think I look younger using liquid. But I WANT to like it! |

Don't throw in the towel yet ladies Have any of you tried Illuminare liquid MMU?
I ordered a sample pack of their lightest colours and settled on Portofino Porcelain in Extra Coverage and I loved it so much I ordered the full size. I apply with a damp sponge and the finish is awesome It doesn't emphasize my pores, and Extra Coverage does hide imperfections pretty well and gives a dewy finish. Oily skins should use their All Day Coverage.

Their CS is first rate and they have online chat if you need advice (not online all the time tho.). |

Hi everybody, thank you for replying! well, now that I think of it, I only tried Everyday Minerals, Alima, Merle Norman, Suncat, and Pure Luxe. I can't say I tried everything yet but for some reason, I find most of them are rather drying in the winter but might work just OK in the summer. I can imagine it looks good on someone that has nice hydrated moisturized skin with not too obvious pores. For me, I find that the MMU only looks good on my not so dry skin days.
I haven't think about Liquid Mineral but starting to.... And then I realized that the Sofina ss that I ordered contains chemicals in it too...that leaves me thinking about what's the point of using MMU.
Thanks Manslayerliz for recommending Zenbiotic Phyto Moisture. If only the price for it is not too steep...plus shipping too
And I'll check out the other MMU that u girls mentioned...But now I feel that I spent too much just on MMU only, not to mention my other skincare products too It's good they provide samples but the postage... sigh and then I don't know wat to do with the samples if I don't like them. Throwing them out seems like such a waste.
CMAYC, I just checked Youngblood's ingredients for the liquid minerals... Many of the ingredients, I'm not too sure about. Do u know approx. how much it is? I think it looks rather pricey.
athena123 and BluesHeart, I did look at the NCN liquid mineral. But I remember somebody on this forum saying that it doesn't have enough coverage for eye circles...it's too sheer.
Btw, anyone use or heard of Illuminare Liquid Mineral? They provide samples of different formulas & shades for only $10US + shipping. Reg. price is $27 but of course they don't have all those beneficial ingredients of the other more expensive brands. geez, so which ones to go for? I'm stressing myself out here... ![Confused](images/smiles/confused.gif) |

Wow stardusty, you really have tried a lot of them - I was very lucky I guess. I got roped into mineral makeup by the lovely infomercials -fortunately I didn't buy and BE, but I tried it first at my local beauty store. I hated the way it looked and it made me itch. So I started researching online, found tons of reviews for Everyday Minerals on MakeupAlley and EDS, ordered 2 sets of samples and voila! My search was over.
NCN is pretty sheer, but once the first layer dries you can add another layer for more coverage. I don't do that, however, and I don't have eye circles to cover so I wouldn't be a great judge sorry... BTW, here's the ingredients:
ngredients: Organic Aloe Juice, Organic Jojoba Oil, Titanium Dioxide, Emulsifying Wax, Iron Oxide, Vitamin E, Phenoxyethanol, Mica, Zinc Oxide, DMAE, Stearic Acid, Meadowfoam Oil, Carrot Oil, MSM, Konjac Glucomannan (Mannan), Rosemary Extract, Neem, Tetrasodium Edta, Citric Acid. |

I apply mine much like yours. A Chanel mua showed me that trick and I've done it that way ever since. I was actually thinking about you the other day Athena, when I was applying this. I DON'T like it at all with the NIA sunscreen. I much prefer it over the NCN day cover. I'm not sure why so maybe I'll play around a little and let the NIA dry more. Ideas? |

Stardusty, I tend to have circles and while my eye cream helps a lot I still have some shadows. I apply the NCN first and then do my concealer. While the shadows are there lightly it looks fine. I'm not sure you'll find anything that will cover 100 percent but if you do give me a shout. I'm in my 40's and I don't find this combo dries out the eye area. Do note that I don't have under eye lines. |
