I bought some Renova there last week using a credit card i havent used for ages.
Well less than a week later someone has stolen that card number and spent $700 on a gambling site
So im suspicious that someone at medsmex might have stolen my number seeing as its the only place ive used that card in weeks.
So i wanted to warn people and find out if this has happened to them at this site?
What should i do? Should i email medsmex about it? Or could it have been stolen somewhere else from another transaction ages ago - you number stays in a business's computer system dosent it?
I hope its okay to post this here. I just want to warn people to be careful. Usually i only use paypal but couldnt at that site.. |

I just had a similar situation happen to me. Someone got my debit card number and tried to charge over $500.00 at some fancy hotal in the Netherlands. Thank god my bank caught it. I don't know where they got my info. I haven't bought from Medsmex in over 9 months and this just happened to me this Wednesday. |

Your credit card could have been stolen in a zillion different ways. The bank that issued your credit card should be on top of this for you.
Hope you get all the issues fixed soon!

^^^Yes you're right i shouldnt just blame medsmex. Ive done some googling on the subject and cant believe how some people can get your details...programs that people can use to generate a list of credit card details for eg |

dejavu!! I ordered from them in january. I don't use that cc much either. At the end of last month I found a transaction for 600 euros on my statement. When I called the bank to investigate it was for a gambling/casino site. The bank will check into it so hopefully they will find it wasn't me and I will get the money back. That's a lot of money for me!! I was pretty upset. To add insult to injury, this transaction put my cc over the limit...and the bank still let it go through thanks so much for posting this carol, to be honest i might look to buy my retin A elsewhere next time... |

This sounds like a nightmare. I purchase Retin-A from Medsmex on a regular basis and haven't had any problem. However, my husband did have a considerable amount of money stolen from his cc, it was after we'd been to Hong Kong but the bank refunded it (can't remember the exact amount, but it was in the thousands). It was the bank that contacted him about it.
So to be on the safe side, for internet purchases I use a debit card. It works in exactly the same way as a cc but will only work on my own funds that I have deposited. I only keep a minimal amount of money on this card to avoid internet theft. |

Carol: I the last time I ordered from Medsmex (probably 3-4 months ago) I used my Citibank card, which is a card I rarely use and which I hadn't used, at that time, to make an online purchase from anywhere in ages. Well within 7 days of placing that Medsmex order I was contacted by Citibank's fraud department - they had detected all sorts of fraudulent charges being placed on my account. Luckily they caught it in time, closed my account, and issued me a new card. They also removed all of the fraudulent charges.
If you do some looking around the net at other message boards you will find this is, unfortunately, something you have to beware of when purchasing from Medsmex.
This same thing (fraud immediately following a Medsmex purchase) has happened to at least 6 other people on another board I frequent.
Unfortunately, their prices on Retin A are awesome so I will probably purchase from them again.
I have been told that if you ask most credit card companies will issue you a temporary account number to use for internet purchases (to somehow prevent fradulent charges). I don't know if this is true but I am going to check into it before ordering again.
HTH. |

Hi Sandrina, this is very worrying news about Medsmex. I'll definitely think twice about purchasing from them again - its better to be safe than sorry. |

I've heard this complaint before about them. To be safe I'd purchase a prepaid Visa giftcard and use it for the site. |

This is very scary. I placed an order a long while back and still have not recieved it - I did get a confirmation but that was it. I will keep a look out for credit card issues. Yikes. |

Wow! This is very concerning. I've purchased retin-A from Medsmex several times and fortunately have not had this happen to me.
I like the idea of the debit card for internet purchases - I think I'll do that from now on when I can't use PayPal. Very good idea.

Wow, thanks for the head up. I've never planned to shop for skincare products from Mexico or Asia and now I'm even less inclined. |

Wow thanks for the replies. I will never order from them again! I thought they were ok as i know a fair few from MUA use them. Last retin a purchase i got was from inhousepharmacy and i didnt have a problem. But they didnt have renova cream which i wanted to try so i thought id try medsmex.
Im worried the bank will say there's no way to prove it wasnt me?? I dont know how these things work-this has never happened to me.
Hopefully they will remove the transaction. The idea of a debit card is a good one.
From now on unless its a site like EDS who I trust I will only use paypal. |

I will definitely be asking my bank about a debit card for online purchases. The idea of a prepaid visa is good as well. This was my first (and hopefully last) experience of this so I really appreciate all the comments too. carol, I hope both you and I can get our money back!! |

Citibank has a credit card that will generate a virtual account number after you log onto their site and into your account. The number is only good for that particular transaction. If you create this virtual account while checking out of a site you can have it auto-fill the credit card number. |

I've heard this time and time again about Medsmex - I bought retin-a from them in the past, but fortunately for me the credit card I used to order expired less and a month later, so I didn't have any issues. However, if I ever order from them again I would definitely use a pre-paid Visa card. I've heard of this very thing happening to people after placing orders with Medsmex from several different message boards I frequent. Too many people have had it happen to be a coincidence. But their prices are great and their products are reliable - I'd just use a pre-paid Visa in the future just to be on the safe side.

I ordered last November and got an order in December, everything was OK. Just several days ago I placed another order, they already charged me. Will see how it goes, I hope that it also will be OK, but I am a little nervous.
I noticed there are a couple of ways to make a payment. One way to create an account with ID/PW on their web site, and another to make a payment without creating an account. Wonder if it matters in terms of security... |

For those of you that have a citibank mastercard, you can sign up online for a one-time-use credit card # for online purchases. The temporary number is what the merchant uses to charge your acct. so they never have access to your "real" acct. number. Each time you want another temp number generated you just sign in online and use the "generate temporary acct. #" I've used this several times now and it's nice knowing the number can only be used once especially if this is the first time dealing with a company.
I've had 2 different credit card numbers stolen thru the internet (or possibly when my computer was fixed at a mac store) and had all kinds of fraudulent charges, closed accts, had to get statements notarized, etc. Scary and what a hassle! Not sure whether other credit card companies have this temporary number available but it's worth checking into! |

I've heard about this happening with Medsmex clients recently.
This info is thanks to Scali and helps protect against having your credit card info stolen.
You DO have to have a PayPal account to do this:

For safer online shopping, PayPal has a plug-in. It's installed on your browser (you have to login to use it, each time) but it can generate a card number for you for single or multi-use with the MasterCard logo.

Login to your PayPal account and on the left side of the screen you should see a column that says, "Enhancing your account" with PayPal plug in as an option.
https://www.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_vdc-plugin-intro
Hope that helps! |
