OK...I put off trying a self tanner for fear of looking streaky and orange or simply looking like I wore self tanner. And the SMELL....dear God, the SMELL. It's like dirty socks, isn't it? I resisted going to the tanning salon (I even have minutes left over from my last holiday) and tried to make peace with my pasty white body. I've always been tan, having been a tanning bed addict (shame on me!) so this was especially hard on me. But I'm reformed...no more sun damage for me!
A few weeks ago, I was at my local spa. The receptionist commented on their new sunless tanning lotion, Solerra. After her going on and on about how great it was, I went home and did my own research. The reviews that I found were very positive, so I went back and bought it, along with their Velvotan application mitts.
Still being very nervous about trying it, I did more research on tips of how to apply this stuff. I discovered a wonderful website totally devoted to sunless tanning. Learned lots there. I highly recommend taking the time to do this, since I think without this info, my results wouldn't have been so good.
I took my time applying it, making sure I blended it well on my knees, elbows, hands and feet. Then I went to bed. When I woke up, I couldn't believe my eyes. I was tanned! But not only that...the tan looked so real and brown. Even nicer than the way my skin normally tans in the sun. No streaks or mistakes that I could see. And the smell wasn't there. If I put my arm to my nose and took a big whiff, I could BARELY smell the "self-tanner smell." No kidding!
It's only been 2 days since I've applied it, so we'll see how it wears, but so far, I'm thrilled! Thought I'd pass this on to those of you wanting to take the sunless tanning plunge. Solerra is a relatively new product that isn't well known. I think it's a hidden jewel.
Take note, though, that I tried their portable version (Solerra tanning mitt) and wasn't as happy..it's like they don't have enough product on them. So, the tan was quite faint. It's best to buy their lotion, along with an application mitt. The only downfall I can see with this product is that it doesn't have any tint to it, so you have to make sure you don't miss any areas. I didn't have a problem though. |

Intersting.I tried spray tanning and that looked really good but when your skin starts exfoliationg and you start looking like a piece of marble-yuck!I tried to use a self tanning lotion once last summer and that was an aveno product that I heard good reviews about-it didn't make me tan. No matter how many times I tried it.Summer is coming up and I will be spending a good chunk of time at school so I think I will use a self-tanner then. What price range is this product in? |

Hi irka...
From what I read, the secret to not looking like a marble is moisturizing daily, exfoliating and reapplying tanner twice weekly. We'll see how well I do.
Check outwww.sunless.com. Lots of tips and info there.
Was your Aveeno a gradual tanner? It's more difficult to achieve a darker tan with those.
To answer your question...I think I paid $27 for the lotion and $19 for the gloves, but I'm sure you can find it cheaper. There's a great special on their website right now. www.solerra.com |

It was a gradual tanner and I am very very pale.So not developing any color what so ever after about 2 weeks of using it...well I consider it a tad bit odd |

Yes, that is odd. Maybe it was faulty. I've heard about getting very little color from them...not what you experienced though. |
