I've read a few of the older threads on Retin-a, but I need help assessing what's going on with my skin. I just started Tretinoin .05% again after a 4-month hiatus, and have been mixing it with the Obagi Blender (not the whole Obagi system, just that product) at night.
The thing is, prior to this, I only had one pitted scar (which wasn't that noticeable), and now, I'm seeing more. Even whiteheads that have cropped up and gone away have left "indented" pores (so to that they're no longer a pimple, but the whole pore appears sunken).
I'm worried, because I don't know if this is normal. Some accounts I've read say that Retin-a, because of its effect on cell turnover, causes things to get worse before they can improve...but I don't remember this "pitted" effect happening before.
Any clue as to what could be causing this? |

I think it's a temporary phase. I noticed my pores looked large when I first started using tretinoin (Renova, not retin A). After some time, this resolved. Other people have reported that the lines around their eyes got worse before they got better. |

vcmusic42 were you prescribed retin A? I'm just wondering whether that strength might be too much for your skin at this moment in time perhaps. Sounds to me like your skin might be purging itself of debris and toxins (which is why your getting the whiteheads and all). What other stuff are you using on your skin? |

Hi vcmusic42,
Whe n I first started using retin a along with the Obagi Nuderm products, I definitely thought that all my skin imperfections became quite noticeable. It seemed like damaged skin was pushed to the surface -- perhaps with retin a increasing cell turn over. I thought my acne scars looked deeper and latent ones appeared on the surface as well. However, I didn't have any break outs along the way. It did get better after a few months of using the products; perhaps it takes a few skin cycles to deal with the "issues." |

I started on the retin-a .025 cream. I thought my face looked worse too then tried the gel and it looked 100 times brighter. |

I agree with skin looking worse before it gets better.
I also think dry skin (possible side effect of retinoids) will contribute to making skin imperfections being much more noticeable. |
