i think tea tree/manuka and white thyme are the best.
follow those up with rosemary, grapefruit, lavendar, and cypress--at least that's what's in my absolute favorite spot potion --osea's essential corrective oil.

I like Clary Sage and Lavender - those really keep my skin clear when I mix them with jojoba oil. I love grapefruit and lemon too for acne, but unfortunately those are phototoxic, so I try not to use them much in the summer. |

Hi charlibets
You should check out this thread started by Carrie

Its very informative and when I buy my EOs I take a look at the guide to check if its suitable for my skin.

I've read that lavender , tea tree or New Zealand tea tree (Manuka) , bergamot and geranium are good EO for Acne.
Mix the oils for a minute or two. Apply a small amount to the face. |

I suggest Hazelnut oil for a good carrier oil. Still loving mine. |

Is a carrier oil something that dilutes the essential oils so they are not to strong?
Do you need to use a carrier oil when mixing essential oils?
Thanks

Yep, that's right. Some essential oils can be used neat, such as tea tree and lavender, though caution is advisable if you using it first time.
But alot of essential oils are too strong to used neat so carrier oils such as Almond oil, jojoba oil, grapeseed oil, hazelnut oil etc are necessary. I like hazelnut oil because it is astringent and I am allergic to jojoba oil. |

I tried substituting essential oils (grapeseed oil + tea tree oil + jojoba oil) for my over-the-counter skincare products and it's simply a bad experience. EOs just worsened my skin My skin became oilier than ever and I started having problems with acnes and blackheads...Not sure if I had used the oils incorrectly... |

Hi Betsy, I make up a recipe for my daughters using a gentle handmade liquid soap and then add in lavender, tea tree, oregano and a touch of salicylic acid. I have them squirt a small amount on a small complexion luffa and gently wash twice a day. It works for us.

I'm quite lazy, so I use a pre-made Simplers blend called Acne Aid that has lavender and tea tree, among others. I don't love the smell, but I find it to be a nice gentle-yet-tough blend for my acne. I got it at a natural grocery store, and I like that it's easy to carry in my makeup case in my purse for on-the-go application - though people DO tend to wonder at the smell! |

Best oils would be:
-Tea Tree: Caution, it's very drying and can sting the face badly so be careful when you use.
-Emu Oil: May be too greasy if you apply too much and you in small amount of drops a little bit goes a long way.
-Jojoba Oil: Some ppl claim it does wonders while others get bad breakouts. Great for hair!!
-Grapeseed Oil:Alternative to Jojoba Oil. Great stuff. Light and Gentle not heavy as Jojoba
-Lavender Oil: Helps with calming skin reddness
-Neem Oil: One Word it STINKS, but works |

On this sort of topic, I've always been interested in mixing up my own facial oil for oily/acne prone skin.
I'm thinking of something using Hazelnut oil base? I also have some Grapeseed and Jojoba oil lying around as well as Lavender essential oil. I think Tea Tree oil is pretty standard, so I should probably get some of that as well.
So does anyone have suggestions for a facial oil recipe? Thanks so much! |

Hi Maiea! I've been blending my own facial oil recently and I couldn't be more pleased with the results. Every day when I wake up my skin is so clear and smooth! My recipe is very simple: I use Kukui nut oil as a base, then add Lavender and Ylang Ylang. I like hazelnut oil too, however, since it's more astringent I don't think it provides enough moisture for the cooler months. Many people like Jojoba oil, however, it also seems to clog someo people's pores (it totally clogged mine), so I stay away from it. Kukui nut oil is AWESOME because it's really moisturizing (I haven't had problems with dry skin so far this winter), and it's really good for people with acne-prone/oily skin because it's easily absorbed, and doesn't clog pores.
As for why I use Lavender and Ylang Ylang, besides the fact that they smell great, Lavender is a disinfectant and it calms redness too, and Ylang Ylang fights congestion and clogged pores, so together they are a really great team. HTH! |

Hi Liz, glad to hear you've got a homemade oil blend that works well for you! I'm surprised to learn that kukui is not a pore-clogger (though I don't know why -- I never knew much about it, but I always assume those tropical butter-like oils will block pores for some reason).
Just curious, where do you buy your EOs? And what's the carrier oil for your ylang ylang? It's so darn expensive to get straight ylang ylang, and I always find it in jojoba carrier, but like you said I worry that might clog my pores if I leave it on there. Just thought I'd check out your source. |

Hi Ginnie! I know what you mean--- I was always scared to try Kukui because it sounded so rich, but once I took the plunge I was hooked. Honestly I haven't experienced a tight or dry day since I started using it, and it has really helped with clogged pores as well.
As for where I get my EOs, I buy them from a place called Naturesgift.com. I like this place because it sells everything I need (including the kukui oil), so it's one stop shopping. The Ylang Ylang I use is the Ylang Ylang complete, which is $8.00 for 5ml--- very reasonable considering how potent this stuff is! As far as I know it's undiluted (and it sure smells undiluted!) but I could be mistaken. |

Thanks! They usually have to say on the bottle if it's diluted and what the carrier is, I think. But who knows. We all know cosmetic regulations aren't exactly stringent. Glad to hear you have a new oil solution -- this may be something I have to try for myself soon! |

I've been holding off on responding to this until I tested my current blend for at least 2 months. Got the recipe from Scallawagirl and it's a winner! It has an earthy smell, I kind of like it but some may not. It's possible that adding a few drops of geranium EO would improve the aroma, but then again I think geranium EO improves the smell of EVERYTHING!
I use jojoba as a carrier oil since I've found it extremely compatible with my skin. If other carrier oils are more suitable for your skintype, by all means try those instead!
I start off with a clean .5 oz. EO bottle filled halfway with jojoba oil. Then add 16 drops EACH of lavendar, rosewood and tea tree EOs.
Follow up with 8 drops each of German Blue Chamomile, helichyrsum oil, lemon oil, palmarosa oil and thyme oil.
This bottle has been lasting me a long time; I apply it right after cleanse/tone. First month, I didn't even break out with any zits during my TOTM! Earlier this month, I got my usual monthly zit. Spot treated it with helichyrsum neat in addition to this oil mixture and it disappeared within 3 days. This zit was gearing up to be a monster and it went away!
BTW, I made my own DIY batch of pearl/silk paste and added this mix to it. |

Thieves oil clears up my cysts fast--basically overnight--it's mostly clove oil and I get it from Young Living through id# 967167
Otherwise YL tea tree and lavendar for pimples and geranium oil for fever blister tingling--doesn't erupt.
Love my oils. I use them all neat. I like that they're multi-purpose too. Thieves on gums, lavendar in bath, tea tree to open sinuses, etc. |
