Can someone tell me which honey is best for acne? I have pure honey at home that i used to use with aspirin and i use to do aspirn masks. This was when my acne was mild and close to moderate.
The last few months i have been very depressed. I have acne again and male 26. I have cystic acne on my face in certain spots on my face.
I used to have a remedy for this which was a glycolic acid cleanser that worked for pimples and helped with red marks. Now it doesn't work at all and everyday its getting worst and worst.
I read about other stuff like tea tree oil etc but i read that is waste of time. I been using a basic gentle purpose cleanser and its not helping at all. I quit the glycolic acid cleanser b/c it doesnt work no more.
Can someone who use honey tell me which one they use? I dont care about the price at all or whatnot. Do i go with manuka or raw honey?
Should i use it as a cleanser or put it on few few hours at night and then wash it off?
Does it work for cystic acne? How long would it take to see results?
Is it more for acne or red marks/hyperpigmenation?
And is it best to use manuka honey that is umf 16?
I found this one where it has lot of great reviews but then i read lot of the reviews say they changed the manuka honey and thus its no longer like this anymore. So does that mean i should avoid this one?

I'm really losing my mind right now. I never thought i would have to go through this acne again and its taking over my life. I'm basically staying at home every single day b/c of this. |

I have tried manuka honey on my acne and regular raw honey and neither have had any effect on the acne. I've kept them on for a few minutes to a few hours to overnight and other than having slightly softer skin I did not notice any improvement in acne.
What makes the most improvement to me is to use 2.5% benzoyl peroxide, antioxidant serum and sunscreen everyday. I use a basic liquid cleanser by Olay and sometimes I add ground up aspirin to it and massage my face to exfoliate. I like the results.
What does the rest of your skincare look like? What else do you use on your face?
Why do you think you are depressed? Is it because of the acne or something else? It is possible that the depression and acne might have a common cause. How is your general health, your diet, sleep patterns etc...? |

I got interrupted and didn't finish my original post...
If you want to give honey a try then regular unheated honey should be fine. The enzymatic activity in honey produces hydrogen peroxide in small amount and that's is what kills the acne causing bacteria. When exposed to air the hydrogen peroxide breaks down to water and oxygen. The acne causing bacteria cannot live in the presence of oxygen. I really think the effect here would be so small that you may barely notice a difference. It's easy enough to try though, so see how it goes for you. I still think the benzoyl peroxide and maybe salicylic acid is a better option. Good luck. |

Hi. I use gentle purpose cleanser for my face. Then i put some salycic acid cream on my pimples. Other times when i dont have pimples, i would use aloe vera gel on my face b/c it makes my face feel cool.
I'm depressed b/c of my acne. Thats whats causing me to feel this way.
I read article that pure honey... is worthless. But i did see ppl mention raw honey put everyday on their face helps clear acne. Some say manuka helps as well for red marks.
How long did you try manuka or raw honey for? Do you know if it helped with red marks? |

If you have the funds, you could try a dermawand, which is an oxygen pen.
I recommend blue light treatment and nano cyclic silver soap as the most effective treatments. |

I only did it for a short time (a couple of weeks) and maybe that is not enough time to make an assessment of whether it's effective or not.
Regular honey should work fine as long as it is raw and unheated. The heat would destroy the enzymes that produce hydrogen peroxide. Like I mentioned in my previous post it is the hydrogen peroxide that kills the p.acne bacteria. Manuka hone has other non hydrogen peroxide compounds that are effective at killing different types of germs (like staph for example). So if you had a boil on your skin, manuka honey would be better to use, than regular honey, but I believe for acne, regular unheated honey is better. Honey is slightly acidic and it needs to be neutralized before it starts producing hydrogen peroxide. Your skin would probably be able to neutralize it to a certain degree if you leave it on for long enough. I have no idea how long that would take. Seems like there are way too many variables with the honey. The results would probably be minor and inconsistent. I still think benzoyl peroxide would work better than honey.
What kind of salicylic acid do you use? What's the brand? Some of them are not well formulated and their PH is too high to make them effective?
I have not tried a dermawand or a nano cyclic silver soap. I did order a blue light and I will report to you it's effectiveness as soon I have a chance to use it.
Good luck. |

quickguide, you will always read people recommending things, and others saying that they are useless. Different things work differently for different people. You can only try to be as intuitive as possible, watch your skin's reactions, compare them with other people's experiences, and go from there.
(However, you are getting good advice from people here).
There are a lot of causes of acne, which is why you need to try different things, internally and externally to find out what yours is about.
It may be a case of something going wild crazy in your body or on your face which you'll need something strong/medicinal to get rid of before starting with gentler treatments. But I'm guessing that only a doctor can determine that, but if he/she's given you the all clear...
Please look into the Oil Cleansing Method (OCM). It's what I would have done, had I known about it back when I had acne. Some people get breakouts at first as skin purges and brings bad stuff to the surface, but if you've already got acne, this is a good time to start.
The other thing I'd recommend is being extremely gentle with your skin. There's no need to rub product in... gently use whatever you do to just loosen & rinse dirt... and gently apply whatever topical you're applying on top. This way you don't irritate and disrupt the protective barrier, and your skin will allow or reject whatever it is you're applying.
Also look into the P/h of your products. "Gentle" doesn't mean much... loads of products go way overboard with crap in their concoctions but still write all good things natural/gentle/non-comedogenic, etc on their labels. If you're unsure, spritz your skin with diluted apple cider vinegar to bring it back to normal. |

The salycilid acid i use is neutrogena acne defense lotion. It has 2 percent saliclic acid.
Thoughts on that? I always used this product for many years and it works but now... not so much. It says it takes 8 hours for pimple to get smaller but obviously it takes longer.
Do you guys think using gentle purpose cleanser is better as oppose to a glycolic acid cleanser? I use to use a glycolic acid cleanser that has 11 percent aha and it cleared my acne. However, it doesnt seem to work anymore and ppl say never use a harsh cleanser. I still have it but im hesitant of using it b/c of that though a few years back, it cleared my acne so much.
For the regular honey... im confused by that. The bottle that i have says Golden Blossom Pure Honey. Would that be fine? |

I believe your Neutrogena lotion is good to use. I think it has some fragrance added, but if it's not bothering you....
In my experience salicylic acid was helpful, but not enough to control acne by itself, so that's why I added the benzoyl peroxide. Now I use SA at night and PB in the morning followed by sunscreen.
Golden Blossom honey should be good for you to use. Their website says it is not pasteurized. Give it a try. How do you plan on using it? Would you keep it on your face for several minutes/hours or...?
Mt favorite cleanser is Olay foaming face wash for sensitive skin. My skin feels good and comfortable after I use it and not tight and dry so that is what I would recommend to people.
So, how does your face feel after you use your cleanser? I supposed you might alternate between your regular cleanser and the glycolic one and see how that works out.
Make sure you wear sunscreen during the daytime. |

I plan to use the honey by putting it on my face like a mask for at least 15 minutes.
My face feels stressful even when i clean my face with my cleanser. |

I have extremely sensitive skin. I am 41 and have been diagnosed with rosacea and cystic acne. I use raw organic manuka honey with purified water twice a day. I have left it on for up to 3 hours for three days for rosacea flare ups. It works for cystic acne but must get manuka honey thats active. (16+ OR HIGHER) I use grapeseed oil to remove makeup with washcloth. Then honey with purified water and rub in for 3 min. Then I use Apple Cider Vinegar diluted 50/50 with water and apply with cotton ball. I use grapeseed oil with tea tree oil and lavender oil (4 oz bottle,12 drops each of essential oils) as a moisterizer. Twice a week mix baking soda with honey to exfoliate. Once a week mix Apple cider vinegar with bentonite clay (equal parts) and leave on for 20 min...rinse. My skin is completely clear...first time in 20 years! |

I agree with maj41, manuka honey is the best! It has antibacterial qualities. I really like to use it as a mask, on its own or mixed with aspirine and probiotic yogurt. |
