So I decided to go to this new place to get a pedicure just to try them out since they're near where I live. They slapped on this lotion on my legs, no idea what it was, but that night I had small red bumps which I didn't think much of. I normally get small red bumps on my legs when they're dry so I just left them alone.

Then a shower and a day later there were MORE red bumps on my legs! I always put on moisturizer after a shower and normally the bumps go away! I don't know what to do! They're a little itchy but only sometimes. So I treated them like I would a pimple but then it looked like some of them had pus coming out! I don't know how to explain it, they're just small red bumps and after putting on my normal pimple treatment, pus starting coming out! I know for sure it's that lotion the spa put on because I haven't changed creams lately and it's only on my legs!

Help! Any ideas what it could be and what I should be putting on it? I'm almost desperate to reach for some cortisone cuz I have a cruise to go to in 2 weeks!

My first thought is run, don't walk to the dermatologist, esp. since you need to have your legs swimsuit-ready ASAP! However, if that's totally not an option than DEFINITELY start right away with some sort of cortisone-based lotion. Good luck!

I've been doing some research and it almost seems like what I have is razor burn! Which is weird because I hardly ever get that!

I'm definitely going to start the cortisone tonight! A derm is out of the question too because I have to be referred and that takes forever. I'd be back from my cruise by the time I get to see the derm!

Okay, I think I found what it was that caused the red bumps. Did a search on MUA, I called the spa and she told me they use Vienna Beauty Products aka Triple Lanolin in Mango Vera. It contains aloe vera and lanolin. I think it's the Lanolin that caused it and if so, it's probably irritation and allergic reaction. *sigh*

I did a search here on lanolin too but didn't get much results about an allergy to lanolin.

It's weird because it's fine on my hands and feet, just not on my legs.... *sigh*

Just thought I'd post for the next 1 in 10,000 person who has the same reaction as me.

On a side note, does anyone know if Aloe Vera goes bad? They kept the lotion heated which is probably why my legs are so bad...

Whoa! I just had a bad aloe incident again. Yes, that stuff goes bad even with preservatives. I am not going to risk using aloe again cos of the potential for mold is so great here cos of the dampness.

I think that lots of people have reactions to lanolin because the sheep are treated with stuff to prevent bug infestation so if the lanolin comes from that or is not purified in some way then it could be a problem. For the longest while it was thought that lanolin was the problem but it was actually the chemicals put on the sheep. And if they were heating the lotion well that just penetrates the skin so much faster.

I had a reaction like this once to a Venus razor, and some shave gel made by the same company, except the red bumps spread all over my body. It is definitely an allergic reaction. Rub some benedryl cream on it, but I'm afraid there's no presto gone fix.

You could try oral benedryl too but not both topic and oral.

You definitely had some sort of allergic reaction to the lotions they used. You should notify the salon where you got you pedicure that you had this reaction. They need to know it is not safe.
