I hate working in group projects at school!
I'm a 25 year old in my first year of business at university and I keep getting stuck in group projects with stupid little 18 year olds who don't give a crap about their grades!
They say they'll do their work and give it to me in time for submission, but NOOOO they always have some last minute problem and I have to do the project....and they don't even call. I'm not glued to my email, I have classes too! Or they do the project and send it to me full of spelling or grammatical errors....hello, hotmail has spell check!
They don't even call to tell me there's a problem, they just email me 2 hours before it is due and expect me to deal with it!!!
AAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
Sorry, I'm just pissed off today because I was up til midnight finishing off other peoples work when I should have been studying for my test this morning!!!!
WHY MUST TEACHERS TORTURE ME LIKE THIS?????!! |

I do sympathise! I have learned to avoid the shirkers now, and if anyone lets me down I will go ballistic! Do you have to submit individual evaluation/ assessments after? I found that you actually pick up a lot of marks there. Lecturers aren't stupid. They can see who has done the work and who hasn't. If it is a real issue, talk to your personal tutor. I had to publicly refuse to work with one person eventually cos he wouldn't pull his weight. Group work is also about team building tho, so as long as you can show the steps you have taken to work as a team and show the work and prep you have done for the project, it shouldn't be an issue.

I know how your feel. I'm still in high school so I get stuck in group projects all the time. Last year I was stuck making an entire, huge project that took weeks. I went to my teacher and had a meeting about it, and announced to the entire class that I was the only one who had done anything. Rude, maybe, but some other people who decided not to work are not going to bring my grade down.
Talk to your prof, I'm sure he/she will understand. |

I know how you feel.... I teach people like that. Classes have a mix of just out of high school students finding their freedom (ok, that's a generalisation) and older students who are serious about their work (and often coming back to uni after years in the workforce). However, I ask students to form their own groups and find that like students flock together. So in the end there aren't too many problems. But I do feel for you though, you should not have to do someone else's work. That's why we always have peer evaluations for each and every group project. Gotta love 'em!
Anyways, perhaps you could approach your lecturer and ask if you can pick a few students and form a group that way? |

I went to my class today and it sounds like some of the other students had the same problem. Next project we're having a revolt and dumping all the crappy students together! haha!
I find it a bit hard for me because I'm the only person over 20 in that class (or any of them really!), and about 3 quarters of the class is ESL. Next time I have this problem I will just 'forget' to put their name on the work...opps sorry...damn I wish we had a devil emoticon right now..hehe |
