I would like to pass along this tip from the top dermatologist Dr Leslie Baumann for an easy at-home peel for those who use a tretinoin cream.

Try this secret weapon, a favorite of mine and many of my colleagues: Spread a thick layer of your regular retinoid (Retin-A, Differin and Tazorac are among the most popular of these vitamin A-based topical creams) on your face. In 3-5 days, your skin will start peeling, but by day 6 you'll be positively radiant (so plan your schedule accordingly!) |

My guess is that this method can also be utilized with a potent OTC retinol cream.

Do you just use the cream one night and then it peels after 3-5 days? If so I am going to try it. |

Hi, Bethany and cookie.
From what I understand, you are supposed to leave a thick layer of the cream on your face during the night, and wash it off in the morning.
You can give it a try, but please sue Mrs Baumann (and not me) if you wake up looking like a peeled tomato.
Honestly, I would think you need to leave the cream on to get the peeling effect. |

I saw this today also. I wonder how thick a layer it should be? Probably at least 2 peas worth?
And, how often could this be done? |

As long as I don't wake up stained YELLOW like poor Skin Care Addict after the tumeric mask, I'll be fine. But that peeled tomato was NOT a good visual!
Thanks again for sharing (and clarifying!). |

I think you would need to leave it on all night, as well. This is in essence what the Obagi system does.
Foxe, it said in the article no more than once or twice a week. |

Gasp !!!! Leave on overnight ? thick ?
Oh,I'm so over the tumeric thing.
But,I am still healing from too strong of DIY Vit C & Vit A. after a roll, my neck and spots on my face were swollen & inflamed then like sandpaper.
But,its getting better now.
I would do this one, but,I would make sure I had a few days of privacy.(just in case) |

Yes, but how many people could get into bed and not turn over and smear it off? I couldn't sleep on my back all night!
Or does she mean just rub a good size amount on your face like moisturizer? |

I am assuming she means to rub it in; that would be my guess. |

Sooo...I have had a crappy work day that just won't end, and I decided to wind down with some wine and a Retin-A mask.
I initially put on a good layer, and just like Skin Care Addict said, it soaked in pretty quickly. So I added some more on top...bad choice. It kind of clumped togther with the previous application's remnants. I wiped all that off, and then added a new layer of RA and tossed in some Super Cop 2x CPs for the heck of it. I now look like something from Marine Land or Sea World.
We'll see what happens in a few days. But even if I end up looking like a peeled tomato, I will NOT be blaming SeptemberGirl!
I'll report in as things progress.... |

You gotta apply the thick layer of RA all at once or it balls up! Wow, supercop 2 on top of the RA? Be prepared for some lizard like shedding going on! |

I'm going to roll this weekend, so that will make the lizard flesh even worse! |

Just a quick update...I did my Retin-A mask on Wednesday night. It is now Friday night, and I am seeing virtually no peeling. There are some miniscule flakes around my nose, but that's it. |

Wow, Bethany. I am surprised! No irritation from the RA/supercop combo, either? |

Nope...nada. I have found that the combination actually limits my Retin-A irritation. |

Very interesting. Too bad Dr. Baumann did not say how much RA to use for this home peel. |

If any of you have been regular users of retin-A, I don't think this "mask" would work as well as it would for someone who isn't a regular user.
I am intrigued as to why you all don't use a home lactic acid or other chemical peel, for those of you already on retin-A? |
