please help!
I have combo skin - dry around mouth and on cheeks and oily everywhere else. So right after cleansing I look nice, but the skin around the mouth is very tight and uncomfortable. But the moment I put any moisturizer on to feel comfortable, I look oily, it just doesn`t sink in Sad
the next step I have to put my SS and here it goes... I just look more oily Brick wall
the only thing I can do here is to blot and use powder to take away all this shine.

can anyone please suggest what can be done here?
has anyone used a good moisturizer for oily skin?
thanks!

I have the same type of skin as you do and the only reason why it would feel this way is if i'm using the wrong cleansers. What are you using right now?

Totally agree with cortigirl . Don't use harsh cleansers, use some gentle ones (thanks to SKINCARE's advice). SKINCARE recommended a make-up remover plus cetaphil gentle cleaser.

Hydrate your face instead of controling the oil. Use hydrating toner, light moisturizer or lotion (I recommend orlane's hydro matifying cream). Use gel mask which supplies hydration without any oil.

A hydrating serum is also a good choice to hydrate your skin immediately.

Anyway, don't control the oil, supply water.

Can i ask you Aiva have you got redness around on your forehead, cheeks and chin.

The reason im asking becuase dry skin around mouth can be an indication of a yeast infection if the rest of your face gets oily and remains oily. You might be at the early stages.

Another indication of the yeast infection is itchy scalp and what appears to look like dandruff in the hair.

If this is the case you need to see a dermatologist to control the yeast infection, the condition is known as seberrheic dematitis. More information :

http://www.aafp.org/afp/20000501/2703.html

If this is not the case I recommend you use oil free products so they dont clog your pores. Also if products are fragrance free they are less irritating. Astra Blue Flame range is very good .

cortigirl, I`m using La Roche Posay Effaclar Purifying Foaming Gel cleanser now.
it has pH 5.5 and is supposed to be mild:

"Acne prone skin requires daily cleansing that is both effective and gentle. La Roche-Posay Effaclar Purifying Foaming Gel is a soap-free cleanser for oily, acne prone skin that is gentle enough for every day use. This deep cleaning cleansing gel produces a light foam which is easy to rinse off and does not over-dry skin. It purifies the skin and promotes the elimination of excess sebum with a combination of Zinc and Glycacil. Clean and purified of impurities, the skin regains its physiological equilibrium. It is an ideal complement to dermatological treatments.
Soap-free, alcohol-free, oil-free, non-irritating cleanser
More healing than stripping
Safely cleanses acne prone skin
Purifies the epidermis, deep cleans without overdrying
Promotes elimination of excess sebum
Non-irritating, gentle enough for everyday use yet effective"

saz07, I doubt this is the case of a yeast infection - I don`t have any redness, it can`t be early stages as it has always been so, and I have no dandruff or itchy scalp.

I think this is somehow wrong skincare ...

Zenbiotics makes good products for oily skin that are organic, herbal and don't contain oil.

Whenever, I heard something "purify", I will have a feeling that this gonna be harsh.

Better try cetaphil, it is a lot cheaper than LRp, so you don't need to worry if it doesn't work. And MOST IMPORTANT, don't always think your face is not clean enough, that's what ads are trying to persuade you. Imagine how many layer have you applied everyday, how could your face be "not clean enough"? Try mild cleansers with a make-up remover. Those purify cleansers will remove your sebum layer therefore promoting more sebum secretion.

Aiva, may I suggest Pure Skin Formulations 99% Organic line.

I agree you need a gentle cleanser so not to stimulate oil production.

Here are the products I would recommend:

PSF Papaya Cleansing Gel
PSF Balancing Oil and/or
PSF Moisture Balancing Lotion

Do check out PSF products and do an EDS search. I find many of PSF products brilliant and very reasonably priced.

Winnie, thank you for the advice, I should really have a close look into PSF line - it has so many fans here and the prices are good.

januarui, isn`t it really annoying with the LRP cleanser that it claims to be just the right thing for oily and acne-prone skin, and just making things worse in reality!
where can I buy the cetaphil cleanser? - I`m in Europe Confused
and does it remove sunscreen? I don`t wear much makeup, just LRP sunscreen (which I also hate Bad Grin ) and powder.

Europe, hmmm, probably it is very hard to get a cetaphil cleanser.

Caudalie foam cleanser is another choice, around the same price as LRP's, however, they have a 50ml travel size for 10 dollars, which is very considerate for testing.

Cetaphil and caudalie cleansers can not remove sunscreen... Just buy you a cheap gentle cleansing milk. Since you are cleansing your face twice (makeup-remover adn cleanser), and sunscreen is easier to remove than makeup, you don't need an expensive makeup remover.

Those ads like LRP's emphasize how potent in cleansing they are to clease your pore. Actually if you really want to clean your pore, the best and gentle product is Darphin's purifying balm, you will find a lot of reviews on this product at MUA. Although it is a little pricy, however, you only need to use it once a week, so you will feel it is ever lasting.

Well I will tell you what I use because at least you know that i have the same issues you have.. or at least i had! Smile My skin gets irritated very easily. 99% of the time it's all in the cleanser i'm using. When i say irritated i mean not only does it get tight but i get itchy rashes... it's just NOT pleasant! My skin not only agrees with the regimen i'm currently using but it's sure looking top notch right now! Maybe you can try what i'm doing... i do swear by it if you have oily combo like me Smile

Ok first, 2 liters of water a day! And your fave sunscreen.

Cleaners- Aveda cream cleanser (best cleanser i have used ever)

Toner- Kate Somerville Clarifying Treatment

Cream- I used to use clarins which i love (i'm only going to use this in the winter now though). But all other seasons now i really like eminence grapfruit gel. It's quite moisturizing surprisingly enough.

Exfoliation 2 a week- PSF MicroCrystal Resurfacing Cream

Mask 2 a week- Kate Somerville Clearing Mask for Acne-Prone/Oily Skin

At the very least, try this cleanser as i know you'll love it! Smile

I agree that a balancing oil is a good idea. I've been using Dr. Hauschka normalizing day oil since December. I had to stop using it on my whole face because my oily face was starting to get dry! Now I use it only on my t-zone and am using the quince cream everywhere else. I just use a little oil and it takes a while to sink in but it does. I couldn't believe that it actually worked to put oil on my oily face - but it really does.

oh no! I hate Dr. Hauschka normalizing day oil!
it never sinks in, just sits on and shines, and it dries out even my oily t-zone - it starting to feel tight and dehydrated!
good that it works for you though Smile

If the normalizing day oil is just sitting on the surface of your skin, I'd recommend spritzing your face really well with the toner first. Then, before it dries, press a SMALL amount of the oil, like a drop, into your toner-damp skin. I have found that if I use too much, it doesn't absorb really well. Experimentation is the key. But, being 52, I really feel good about using the day oil. And I sometimes mix it with a smidge of the Rose day cream.

Dr. Hauschka's Rose day light cream - I have combo skin too, should of course say - HAD - oily forehad and nose, and dry cheeks.

No more! It's really balanced by Dr. H products, I am not switching.

It really is gentle enough and non-invasive with skin's own process, yet it's got very good ingredients that work with your skin to help balance it out.

Maybe a matting moisturizer, such as Decleor Aroma Purete Matt Finish Skin Fluid, could help?

Cetaphil is much expensive in the UK than in the US. Have you tried Darphin Hydraskin Light
? http://www.spacenk.co.uk/product/id/108714.do I used when I had skin problems two years before. It is really hydrating.

Decleor the HYDRA FLORAL ANTI-POLLUTION - "FRESH FLOWER" MOISTURISING EMULSION should be applied to your skin, it is not greasy, easy to absorb, moisture capacity, and adequate moisture ,There is a lot of my friends are Recommend this

I think that oily skin should use non-liquid facial cleanser foam, foam cleansing products can easily take away the moisture your skin dry skin, the more serious, more oil secretion, and a vicious circle
