Hi blklove27
Welcome to the board. I love it here and find so many helpful hints to all sorts of skin and hair problems and concerns. Without knowing what you have tried and what you have not tried, I can give you a few helpful hints that will help the situation.
1) Please don't use really harsh products on your skin, you could be producing more oils for yourself by your skin reacting to you trying to strip the oils.
2) Only wash your face twice a day-again anymore you are stripping your face.
3) Try to use an aspirin mask at least twice-three times a week.
4) Use honey! I just started doing honey masks, but I am convince after reading reviews here and on MUA that it is a life saver with oils, pores, enlarged pores.
Please spend some time reading various posts on this site, you will find some awesome information!!! |

I had great success with the Proactiv line from an acne standpoint, but it didn't do too much for my oilness.
One thing that did help me was the Skin Biology "Sebum Be Gone."

You could try calling and asking for a sample before purchasing. |

Hi blklove27,
I completely understand your story. I had similar problems as well but mine included breakouts It's really embarrassing and it definitely messes with my social life and my confidence at times.
I just wanted to 2nd that motion to try the Aspirin mask. I, like you, have tried everything from high to low and was extremely frustrated not to mention to make matters worst I work in the cosmetics industry so it was twice as frustrating.
I found this site last week and saw all the rave reviews in the DIY forums for Aspirin Masks so I read through ALOT of posts lol and finally created one that worked for me.
When I tried it the first time I didn't see immediate results when I washed it off HOWEVER when I woke up the next morning there was a definite difference. Pores were tighter, blemishes that were inflamed were either reduced or gone and the skin was so tight and smooth looking! I was on vacation last week and when I went back people really noticed the difference and I received many compliments.
I've used it every day for the last 5 days but that's because I have blemishes to clear up. When I'm clear I will drop down to about 3 times a week. I also make my own toner and soon my own cleanser and honestly I think my skin is looking better than it has in a long time. So give it a try! There are tons of recipes to try I posted mine there to for anyone that's interested.
Anyways good luck, keep us posted and I hope you find something out here to help you out!
I tried to add an additional link to a forum on this site but it won't let me so here's the name of the forum: WOW!! Aspirin mask is phenomenal!!!
It's great you'll find many great recipes in there. |

As far as the aspirin masks you definitely can make them so many different ways, meaning add lots of different stuff to the mixture to meet your needs. But yes, go to the store and buy generic aspirin uncoated. You can find a big bottle for $1.99 in some cases. I have a bottle that has 100 tablets and I bought it at the .99 cent store. I like to mix mine with tea tree oil (just a drop though) and now I have been doing honey. Sometimes I just do the aspirin and the tea tree oil and maybe some witch hazel to dissolve the aspirin. I know some people have commented that they had a hard time finding "uncoated" aspirin. I have bought the uncoated and it worked just the same. I drop about 4 aspirin in a small cup, a couple drops of witch hazel and a then they dissolve in a manner of minutes. Read through the aspirin posts and you will find people that use other products to help with specific issues. Just a thought I wanted to mention, aspirin is Salicylic acid, so make sure you are not allergic to that. Some people are. |

From Wikipedia on Salicylic Acid: It is probably best known as a compound that is chemically similar to but not identical to the active component of aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid). In fact, salicylic acid is a metabolite of aspirin... |

Thanks for posting that link Septembergirl , much appreciated, is it because I'm a new member that I can't post it?
blklove27,
I went to the the pharmacy and just bought Acetylsalicylic Acid ( the no name brand and generic version of Aspirin). Crush the Aspirin into a fine powder then add distilled water. (Distilled water is literally water that has been boiled, evaporated and condensed - leaving all chemicals, toxins and waste behind and creating pure, clean water. Distillation will remove bacteria, viruses, cysts, heavy metals, organics and inorganics.) From there it's all up to you what you add for your skin care needs. For Glycolic Acid add either brown or white sugar, Lactic Acid either whole fat milk or whole fat yogurt. Honey and/or Aloe will heal, soothe, hydrate. Kaolin clay will purge the skin and pull out any underlying dirt as well as it helps with oil control. Green tea extract or green tea leaves will help with purification and detoxifying.
I found this on Sci-toys dot com:
[quote]Acetylsalicylic acid is more commonly known as aspirin. It is used as a pain reliever, to reduce fever, and as an anti-inflammatory.
Acetylsalicylic acid breaks down into salicylic acid 20 minutes after entering the bloodstream. It is the salicylic acid that is responsible for the beneficial effects of aspirin. Salicylic acid itself it too caustic to be taken orally.
Acetylsalicylic acid has anti-clotting effect in the blood.
Salicylic acid reduces inflammation and fever.[quote]
I'm sorry my posts are so long, I've just literally been going through the same thing so I've been doing alot of research and I'm finding that making my own skincare is better than any of the high or low end products I've used so far. |

First of all diet and exercise play a key role in keeping the skin healthy. However, don't wash the face too much because it can strip it from its natural oils. You should use mild cleansers that clean the skin but do not cause it to become dry. I like Dr.Hauschka's line. It seems to soothe, clear up blemishes, and reduce enlarged pores. Yay!
I also believe in using lemon on the skin. It is used because of its natural ability to get rid of dullness and to shrink pores. Like many others have said honey is also beneficial to the skin as well. |
