can anyone share thoughts/experience on custom blend makeup with prescriptives?
i was thinking about getting it done while at bloomingdales when i was picking up my bobbi brown gel eyeliner, but the MA was out at lunch, and when i came back she had just started doing eye makeup on another girl, and though i tried waiting awhile, it took too long and i needed to get going so i just left. but now that its no longer a spur of the moment impulse buy, im wondering if anyone's had it done and what they think- texture, whether its good for acne-prones, how long it lasts, etc?

I have heard it was good just be sure to get a good Sa who can match you. I have had no luck with their foundations (always to dark) and the skin care broke my face out. Just make sure of the return policy

The custom blends have less choice in textures than their standard foundations (which currently have four, I believe). However, personally, I have never found anything that matches my skin like Prescriptives custom blend I used to have. I stopped when they brought out an off the shelf colour that was 90% right then switched brands.

Now I'm planning on getting Prescriptives custom blend foundation again as I've noticed that whilst foundations can look fine in cunningly-lit beauty halls and even at home stores to my naked eye, when I look at photos, I can see a pinkish tone compared to my natural skin tone, especially at the hairline. Whilst it's least noticeable in photos with that Prescriptives (off the shelf) colour, I'd rather get the 10%.

My tips: Try and find an SA you find comfortable, see if they have any in their wide range that match and then if not, get a custom blend. Also, take a digital camera so you can take pictures and check before you buy.

By the way, also check out the Prescriptives custom blend concealer, you might decide not to buy foundation!

I've been so frustrated trying to find a foundation that matched my color (asian skin but with pink & yellow tone; at least, that's what I think I am). It seems that my skin tone, amongst other things, has changed as I've become older. I've tried several colors that were "close to" but something was always off. Embarrassing to say but I was of no help either because I couldn't define exactly what was off and only knew I looked odd or tired or gray or sallow or something.

So I've been sampling various foundations over time, having the sales person determine my color (rather than trust myself) and still hit a brick wall.

Today I decided it was time to try Prescriptives. I explained my concerns to the sales person and my request sounded similar to this - medium coverage but not look like a mask, refreshed looking, not settle into fine lines or pores, battle the oilies but not matte looking, etc. - I just want new skin, I want to look better with foundation but without looking like I have any on. I also requested trying a regular color rather than custom blended.

Well,to their credit (Nordstrom), they tried different colors in the Virtual Youth line. When that failed, tried blending a couple tones without success. At this point, she said a custom blend was required. She mixed a batch, trying several samples on my cheek along the way and tweaking it when needed; still, no match. She started over in the 3 level and quickly found "the match". She did my entire face but I still did not purchase it, thinking I needed to wear this for a while, indoor and outdoor, to see how it held up or changed color; plus, it's really hard to see in the dept store lighting.

I'm so pleased to say, this foundation looked wonderful at the end of the day. The color enhanced my skin tone, coverage was medium yet felt light and it looked like my own skin! It was dewy without being oily. I know she added something called "Radiance" and a little something for oil control. I'm so pleased to have finally found a color for me and I will be returning to Nordstrom to purchase it.

The sales person also mentioned being able to custom blend powders, lip glosses and concealers. Have any of you tried a custom blend for powders? Do you think it's necessary?

I'm just so thrilled (and surprised) to have finally found a color match for me!
