| OK I think I may now have tried EVERYTHING for blackheads. Ive done retin A and oil based vitamin A products. Ive tried the OCM, ive used sulphur and clay masks, aha and bha products, ylang ylang oil, every "light" moisturiser ment for oily skin and ive megadosed vitamin B5. Ive given them all a proper go but nothing has worked. My nose and chin are constantly covered in blackheads. Has anyone anyother ideas or is it time for me to just give up??? |

just wondering...this is a long shot but....
if you try to extract does anything come out?
many people that i have seen who are concerned with black heads in those areas actually only have stretched pores which do hhavve the appearannce of black heads.
otherwise i personally think that many aha/bha products aren't that great. cleasers with these ingredients dont 'wash' with me. (excuse the pun).
it is better to have a moisturiser that contains these ingred. so that they can stay on your skkin and do their work.
i have always had a problem with congested pores but the best product for me to keep them away is philosphy 'hope in a bottle'.
it is the only product that has worked on my skin. it contains salicylic acid and you reallly feel it work when you apply it.

The only time I've had success with ridding myself of blackheads was when I was on accuntane. I'm allergic to salicylic acid, but tazorac, retin a, glycolic, did nothing. Maybe I'll try the azealic next. |

| I wonder if Vit C gives me blackheads too. Why would it cause blackheads? |

Coconut- i think i agree with you. I went on something called 'roaccutane' backk home in australia which i must be the same thing. it is a brilliant things and definitelly worked as i had cystic accne all over my face and torso. however i am starting to get really stubbborn congestion again and the only thing that works for mee is a good salicylic acid product. I agree with the other ingredients you listed. Especially glycolic which, for me, really isnt any good for clearing debris in pores. |

| Besides routine facials to clear out the blackheads, I sleep on something called The Beauty Pillow by Vasseur Skincare. I have been made aware that pressing your delicate facial tissue into a pillow will heat up your pores and harbor bacteria. I was also advised that this also produces oil to these areas which clogs the pore and traps the bacteria to form blackheads. You can find it online under Vasseur "Beauty Pillow". They also have a clear skin starter kit so you can try out all the wonderful products they make. They are all natural products, water based and definitely won't clog pores. Hope this helps. |

| The Clarisonic cleans my face better than anything I have ever used. I have large pores and this is the ONLY thing that has worked to clean them. It is also very gentle to the skin. I bought it based on rave reviews and now I am raving, too. I definitely recommend it! |

I use a little stick by tweezerman to extract blackheads... generally I do a fairly gentle peel that I can do 2x's a week... and when I'm done, I run the stick over my chin and nose... and tons of goop pops out... gross... I know... after a few weeks doing this... all is quite clear... some basic maintenance...

I have also tried many products with glycolic acid and salicylic acid to get rid of blackheads without any luck.
What helped me, was Dermalogica Skin Renewal Booster, a serum that contains a combination of the de-clogging ingredients AHA, BHA and sulfur along with plant extracts. It cleared up the blackheads around my nose within a few weeks. I don't know how effective this product is for people with very oily skin and acne, but for those with normal skin and blackheads in the t-zone, it's definitely worth a try. Dermalogica Skin Renewal Booster has got lots of pretty good reviews on MUA, and quite a few people told that it is effective in de-clogging pores.
Yes, unfortunately vitamin C serum is known to clog pores. Many EDS-members have told about that in previous posts. Personally, I have found SkinMedica Vitamin C serum, which is a silicone based gel, to cause less blackheads than the watery serums with propylene glycol etc. |

| Hmmm, I was afraid of buying clarisonic when it first came out because i was afraid of over exfoliating, but since then ive started using an aha/bha solution every day and epidermxII so i suppose im exfoliating quite alot already. Ive no idea what sort of products you could use with it. Would continuing with the aha/bha be too much? |

| I bought mine with a discount and rebate. If you check around, there are always deals. I made sure I bought it from a site that would let me return it if need be. I haven't gone for a facial since I bought it, use less product because my skin soaks it in so much better, and my Clarisonic is still going strong after a year. It exfoliates, but in a gentle way and I don't need anything else for exfoliation. I use the delicate brush, which is the more recent addition. My pores look smaller because they are cleaner. |

| I use the Clarisonic and it has helped with my blackheads around my nose. I also use an extractor (you can get it at sephora). Those two things have helped me take my blackheads away. Before I used those, I tried masks, strips, creams.. didn't work. I find that the manual way takes them out. And using a sulphur mask helps prevent blackheads by absorbing the oil and gunk from my pores. |

I have heard people on another board rave about the Claroderm microfiber washcloth.
You might want to check makeupalley.com and see if there are any reviews on it. It's a lot cheaper than a clarisonic.
In the past, I've found that using an oil cleansing method or an oil based cleanser helps with blackheads. |

Plus it seems some people love it and some people think it does nothing to help pores, so I am not willing to spend $200 for something that may work. That is why I use a battery operation rotating facial brush. It has worked wonders with my pores along with the fact that I use a glycolic cleanser and I use Finacea. I was using the rotating brush before my new cleanser and before the Finacea cream and the brush was better than my hands and a wash rag, but the truth of the matter is, I would not sit here and tell you that the brush solved my issues. I think it is a combination of the Glycolic cleanser and the Finacea. The three things have turned my skin around so much that I have never seen anything like it. I don't have a problem with Black heads, so it is hard for me to relate to that, but I know when you keep your pores clean, you will have less clogged pores and less blackheads. Try the rotating battery operated facial brush first (they run anywhere from $30-$50). I just replaced the one I had because I know it was discontinued and I loved it so much, so when I found a new one on ebay, I had to buy it for back up. Pretika, Revlon and Avon make them |

good to know about azelaic acid am on Retin A and glycolic acid and i still get red painful pimples occasionally and blackheads... will have to try it  |

Lscott, I would suggest trying a cleanser that is mild but will soften the blackhead plugs and eventually they will come out. The Remergent cleanser is massaged in for a minute and then rinsed with water. This is a totally different approach but it does work. To help thing along, after rinsing, just wipe a damp face cloth over your face to help remove any loose plugs.
Just a good cleanser is not a total answer as you may need to review what you are using on your skin apart from the cleanser as it may be one of those products that is contributing to your blackheads by suffocating your pores and not allowing them to stay open to let the oil out. |

| Lscott, blackheads and large pores were a big problem for me, and scarring. My scarring is getting much better, but I am not quite ready to go without makeup. I am still optimistic because I see so much improvement! Still a little embarrassed.But, there has been a massive improvement in both my pore size, and my blackheads. Very dramatic, really the product Epidermx II by NaturDerm has changed my life. I use it ever day, just a small amount. I just follow the recommendations. Every one here talks about her, but Amy really has been wonderful. She even wouldn't sell me other products! Never have I had that happen before. She worked with me one on one, and I haven't had that happen either. She added the Chrysalyx and what a great product, my skin is firmer, the texture is smooth and much finer and the scars are smoothing out!But, getting back to the blackheads, they just come to the surface and fall off, really!Hope it will help you! |

PSF pumpkin enzyme peel did help to dissolve the top darken blackhead quite dramaticaly.
Blackhead are the only ones that you are allowed to squeeze. Only those which have already enlarged and darken up. It's the only way to totally clear them. |

I'd do anything to get rid of my blackheads, they are the bane of my life  my skin anyhow!
I recently went back to using Mama Lotion which helps somewhat but a few days ago my order of the Finacea Gel arrived...I'm hoping this will finally help! |
