Traumeel Gel by Heel
Homeopathic Preparation for Injuries/Inflammation
Love, love, LOVE this and can honestly say it works. Although I've had Traumeel® Gel for well over a year following a car accident, I've never used it until early this summer when I awoke one morning with a terrible pain in my lower back and side. For the entire day, I found myself unable to easily sit, rise from a reclined position, stand up straight or even move more than a step or two in my hunched over position due to sharp, immobilizing and excruciating pains. Around 6pm, I finally remembered this gel in a drawer and applied it across my lower back. Surprisingly, about 30 or 40 minutes (and a stiff vodka cocktail ) later, I found I could move again--there was still pain but it was significantly muted and no longer immobilizing. I ended up applying the gel twice that night, four times the next day and at least twice a day for the next four days thereafter until I found myself as good as new. In all honestly, I was completely blown away at how effective it was and wish I had used it after my accident instead of simply putting it in a drawer. Since then, I have also used it for the back pain and cramps associated with that TOTM and found it really made a difference.
Packaging: 50g metal tube
Texture/Scent: A non-staining translucent/practically clear gel that easily spreads far and dries without a sticky residue. Any scent is super faint and fleeting and the initial sensation after application is a cooling one.
Directions for external use only. Adults: Apply to affected areas and rub in, 2 to 3 times daily, or as directed by a homeopathic practitioner or a physician. If appropriate, also apply a dressing. Traumeel gel should not be applied over large areas, over broken skin or directly into open wounds.
Ingredients as listed on my tube: Calendula officinalis; Hamamelis virginiana; Bellis perennis; Chamomilla; Echinacea; Echinacea purpurea; Millefolium; Arnica montana, radix; Aconitum napellus; Belladonna; Symphytum officinale; Hypericum perforatum; Hepar sulphuris calcareum; Mercurius solubilis
Inactive Ingredients: Cetyl stearyl alcohol, Ethanol, Paraffin, Purified Water, White petrolatum

Traumeel has garnered a great deal of support from the medical community. From over two dozen clinical studies conducted on Traumeel, results indicated that the cream is safe in combination with other medications and rarely causes adverse side effects. In a controlled double-blind study testing its efficacy in the treatment of sports injuries (available here), patients using Traumeel reported significant pain relief and generally were able to resume athletic training sooner than those using a placebo. If you'd rather take the doctor's word for it, physicians have been recommending Traumeel for over 30 years.
The ointment derives its healing power from a mountainous flower called arnica montana (covered in detail here). Arnica preparations are frequently used by professional athletes to combat sprains, strains, and bruises. Including arnica, Traumeel blends 12 botanical and 2 mineral substances as active ingredients to produce a synergistic result, enhancing the therapeutic effects of applying arnica alone.
Another plant extract, calendula officinalis, accounts for Traumeel's largest ingredient. Calendula officinalis has been used for ages in the treatment of skin disorders and pain, as its petals and pollen convey both anti-inflammatory and antioxidant benefits. An extract of hamamelis virginiana, Traumeel's second-most plentiful ingredient, can be found in the astringent witch hazel. Native Americans used the bark and leaves of this plant to heal external inflammations.
Clearly, Traumeel has both history and nature on its side. With its natural ingredients and homeopathic properties, Traumeel contains little that would be cause for concern as long as it is administered topically. In rare cases, persons with hypersensitivity to botanicals in the Compositae family might experience an allergic reaction. For a safe and effective alternative to conventional NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) Traumeel might be just the ticket.
Traumeel is produced by HEEL, one of largest homeopathic pharmaceutical manufacturers in the world. "Heel" stands for Herba Est Ex Luce, which translates to: "Plants come from the light." What a nice image for such a pure, yet potent, product.

I have one of these, but I don't remember what I bought it for. I think it was for cuts. Does it do anything for surgery scars? |

Ruk, it's a homeopathic gel for pain not scars. |

Traumeel is amazing stuff. It contains Arnica...homeopathic marigold flower and is great for any type or injury or sprain.
It is a must have for your first aid kit.
I use it for everything....espically if you sleep weird and get that kink in your neck. Anything at all...even itchy bug bites. |
