I am so concerned of "water quality" these days.

I live in HK, I dunno why, whenever I am in Korea, my skin get better. No more red bumps and breakouts. No better how late I sleep and how much fried and spicy food I eat.

And I heard lots rich women and model are drinking Evian daily and get pretty skin.

So now I am having experiment on at least drinking 6L of bottled mineral water per week and see how the body change.

I mainly drink Evian and Contrex. When I drink home boiling water, I keep getting thirsty no matter how much I drink. However bottled mineral water make me refresher and i like the aftertaste. I improve a little for my constipation problem. But still have red bumps and breakouts on face. I just start for 2weeks and I will keep updating my results!!

One thing to worry, contrex have very large mineral level which I afraid affect health.

Anyone here do think that water help them to have better skin? Share pls!!

What about a tap water filter, ladies? Bottled mineral water will be expensive in the long run...

I have had one of those little filter tap next to my sink for years and have still had the same problem. I agree with the cost of mineral water though!! Maybe I should check to make sure our filter is getting changed regularly enough first Shock Does anyone find that Brita is better?

There is a difference between "mineral water" and "filtered water". For one thing, the filter is removing the minerals out of the water. Mineral water keeps the minerals in the water.

There are also differences between types of Minteral Waters. Just look at the ingredients on the bottle.

There are some minerals that you want in water but there are others that are not good for you.

I found that having a water softener did good things for my skin though.

My honest opinion is that the bottled mineral waters are over-hyped. It's true that mineral waters contain extra minerals like magnesium, calcium, natrium, kalium etc, but we get these minerals through our diets, as well. If not, we can get it through diet supplements. I think the most important is to drink clean water.

I would not pay for two litres of mineral waters and carry it from the store every day only to get that extra minerals, but that is everyone's personal choice. Smile

I'm with Septembergirl--for myself, I drink mineral water sometimes because I think it's tasty, but I don't imagine that it would have a noticeable effect on my skin because its mineral content is dwarfed by the minerals I already consume in food. Of ocurse, if its pleasant taste makes someone more likely to consume water, that might make it more easy to stay appropriately hydrated and that might be good for the skin.

haha...Septembergirl...how u know that my tired face by carrying the bottled water!!!! Really heavy!!!!!!!!!

Laughing

Actually, my point is the "boring water" MAY make the skin worse so I think of this way! So the improved skin may be done by "get rid of boring water+ bottled water effect"

Will let u all know the result. (in case I can be strong enough to keep carrying the heavy bottles. )

Although I don't know why, my skin and hair seemed to improve in texture with the water softener. It wasn't miraculous or anything, but there was a difference after the water softener.

Maybe its just that the water doesn't have the calcium and rust in it anymore.

I`m with Septembergirl here. I wouldn`t be carrying bottles of mineral water every day, and Brita filter is good enough for me.
More to that - I`m not sure wether it is healthy to drink only mineral water (with all these minerals - will it not be too much???)

I've loved Perrier for many years; it's a little pricey, but I don't do soft drinks, coffee, tea or sports drinks, so I figure it's a draw. I also drink a lot of water from the fridge door filter, and I have a filter on my shower head. Our bodies absorb those chemicals through the skin as well.

Hi Stardustdy, no. I have a water softener in the basement that softens all the household water. There's a big tub that holds rock salt and thats how it softens the water. It's lovely for the shower and laundry. You don't need to use as much soap or shampoo to get a good lather.

I also agree with Septembergirl. I think just drinking more water in general is very helpful for the skin, but you should make sure it's good quality, clean water. I lived in a city with awful municipal water and noticed that my skin and hair definitely suffered. I had to use much gentler products in order to compensate. (You could look into getting a filter for your shower. There's some hair guy who sells one for an astronomical amount, but you can get 'em cheaper at the hardware store.)

You could also just try taking a multivitamin, if you're concerned that you're not getting enough minerals in your diet (though that's unlikely, in my opinion). In any case, it won't do any harm and it's going to be miles cheaper than buying cases of mineral water!

with the "bottled" waters, i think spa-fans look for a low salt (natrium?) amount in it...

the "filtered water" - im not sure if it is a solution for everyone:
some time ago i checked this out, because our water in this area has a very bad ph-value, and contains much (heavy) metals, and also is very limy...so plants like orchids wont survive getting watered with it for long...

those filters (e.g. brita) might reduce lime, but not much of the metals, nor do they change the ph-value...
so, for the plants, brita-filters were NOT a solution...
...and after all i felt a bit duped, as i expected them TO FILTER harmful stuff... Confused

i only drink tap water, it's cheap, clean and safe to drink, at least in toronto. And it's more environmentally friendly than buying bottled water.

You're Canadian and you don't drink tap water? I'm surprised because Canada has one of the best water filtration systems in the world. You're only filling up landfills with plastic bottles and how do you know where the bottled water comes from?? May come from a tap for all we know.

I'm in Canada too...when I lived on the east side of the city we had the best tasting water. I moved 40 minutes away and can definitely smell chlorine & something in it. Now I'm drinking bottled water and pay double in property taxes. Go figure.

Canada is a mighty big place. I would assume that water quality differs a lot from place to place.

I live in canada and have been drinking tap water all my life. It does vary greatly from region to region. I was living in northern BC for most of my life and the water was always ice cold from the tap and really refreshing. Then I moved to the vancouver area and found the water not so cold from the tap and had a weird taste. I did get used to the taste and now when I go back to the north to visit the water there tastes funny to me- like metalicy. Canada is huge and the water in every area tastes so different.

What brands of tap water filters are the best? I’m a bit concerned after reading racheli’s mention of inadequate filtration. I use to have a PUR faucet filter (2 stage), but it was such a pain changing the filter all the time. If I didn’t change the filter often there would be little black specs in my water. Now I’m considering getting a filtering pitcher. Any suggestions?

I found a helpful post that I can use to help me research the best choice for me. Any other suggestions or links would be great.

Hello all, I heard an interesting conversation on NPR. The guest (a scientist of some sort) stated that because the farmland in the US has been farmed repeatedly for so long, it has been depleted of vital minerals our bodies need for optimal health. This applies especially to children.I found this site:
http://www.traceminerals.com/research/migraines.html
It makes sense to me, and I'm going to try to get more minerals into my body in an attempt to improve my overall health.
Wishing you the best of health!
