I am so oily I tried using the Vitamin C Skincuticals in the A.M. with my new Revale coffeberry and Aveeno SPF NO OIL CREAM. but it didn't work because of my oils.

so I have reversed. RetinA in the A.m. with my Aveeno SPF oil free, and then at night SkinCeuticals C/Revaleskin coffeberry and Remergent.

I am know I am doing this opposite of how it should go but my skin was just to oily the other way.

Anyone else have this issue or apply like I do?

I thought that you couldn't use Retin A during the daytime because of some interaction between retinoic acid and the sun? (or something like that...I'm really not sure)

You're not supposed to use the retin-A in the day time. It makes your skin more sensitive to UV light. Not a good idea if you're trying to reverse or prevent sun damage in the first place. And vit. C is better to be used in the morning because it gives you additional antioxidant protection from UV rays.

Have you tried SkinMedica Vit C? I have had problems in the past with Vit C causing my face to be oily. I really like th SkinMedica because it sinks right in, no oilies or blackheads with this product. It has been my understanding that Vit C should be used in the AM and retin A at night.

i second the skinmedica

once i let my skin become used to daily use of differin, i decided it was time to add other actives in to help stimulate skin repair.

i use vitamin c in the morning a few times a week, or whenever my skin needs a boost. also when i take breaks with differin, after exfoliation i use C and it really helps to enhance the turnover effects of differin.

Remergent's Barrier Repair is pretty rich; could that be making your skin oily when you start the day? Or is it oily during the day, regardless? Have you used other brands of Vit. C serums and still had the day time oilies?

Interesting to hear about not using Retin A in the daytime, that makes sense; however, Neutrogena makes a Healthy Skin Anti-Wrinkle Intensive skin cream "moisturizing treatment" with retinol in it, as well as hyaluronic acid and other nice things with SPF 20 with Helioplex...not saying they're right, but they're a huge and long-standing skin care company, with ginormous research science staff.

My derm said that I could use my Vit C at night (did not like the feel during the day) and on the nights that I use my Retinal don't use the Vit C. It is in your skin for 24hrs once you start and I have been doing this for over a year and still have great results. Just use your SS

I agree with the people saying that vitamin C serum should be used AM because of the added sun protection, and Retin-A during the night because of increased sun sensitivity when used in daylight.

Since your skin is oily, you may want to consider the new Skinceuticals CE Phloretin serum. This vitamin C serum is formulated especially for oily skin.

Thanks everyone. I need to keep adjusting I guess. The only sun I do get is driving 6 blocks to work during the day. On the weekends if I am out I reverse my order of products back to C during the day and then Retin A at night.

And I do use Skinceuticals CE Phloretin which is supposedly made for oily skin. Will consider SkinMedica when I am done with the Skinceuticals if I need to do this.

Remergent is rich so I have stopped using the DNA repair in the a.m. and only at night because of the oil.

I don't wake up to oily skin after using the Remergent and other products so I am not sure what to do yet, except to experiment.

There are always oil blotters. I can guess for now I can just stock up!

I think the sun sensitivity with the Neutrogena product would not be so bad as with retin-A because retinol is a relatively weak retinoid. Retin-A is many orders of magnitude more powerful in its action compared to retinol.

I can't urge you strongly enough not to wear Retin-A during the day, even if you don't use much or don't get much sun or only use it with sunscreen or whatever! It's a very strong photosensitizer, and you might be heading for premature age spots, hyperpigmentation, wrinkles, and other damage if you do this. Not to be super-duper alarmist, but it really is a nighttime-only product.

That said, while I agree that it's better to use C during the day, it's not totally necessary. C you can use either night or day, you'll just get more benefit using it during the day. But you can't switch up Retin-A like Vitamin C! Some products containing retinol or other forms of vitamin A may be designed for day wear, but they're a different form of the vitamin and are not as photosensitizing. They also usually have a MUCH smaller concentration than what you'd find in actual prescription Retin-A.
