Hey ladies! I was thinking of getting microdermabrasion done. I just wanted to hear you experiences with it? How many treatments did it take before you saw results? Do you think it was worth the money? etc... any input will be appreciated!
Thanks a bunch!
p.s. I have oily skin prone to breakouts |

You should give EpidermX II a try. |

Hi! I had a series of 6 in-office microdermabrasions for $600 including Botox and seriously, 3 months later.....no difference. I take good care of my skin in the first place, so I did not notice any long-lasting improvements. I agree,, try EpidermxII or NCN microfiber cloths first - cheaper and just as effective, IMO. |

Hi Jag,
Personally, I haven't done a "professional" microdermabrasion myself - but have friends who have. Several of them ended up with broken capillaries (esp. around the nose) - so I'm thinking it's maybe not the treatment for me.
I do exfoliation at home - and have been very happy with the results. Esp. liked the Dr. Brandt and Patricia Wexler microdermabrasion products.

I was led to a product by Dermalogica called Daily Resurfacer as I was looking for something along the lines of microdermabrasion. I had dry flaky skin on my forehead that wouldn't go away with regular exfoliation. These resurfacing wipes are brilliant though - I use one every couple of weeks (I was advised against using them all the time because my skin wasn't terribly bad). |

I've researched this quite a bit as I was on the verge of getting it done and then decided against it.
From what I've read many people end up with broken caps (and I seem prone to these so I didnt want any more) and the results you get are not long lasting (you have keep getting them done). For what it costs (average per treatment in my area is $150), it just didnt seem worth it to me. |

Why not try an in-home treatment first before you go to a professional to do it for you?

I've been getting microdermabrasion treatments at my dermatologist every month for the past two years, and I love it. I have pale skin and a lot of sun damage from growing up in southern california. Micro has done wonders in terms of getting rid of age spots and improving the overall tone of my skin. I haven't had any problems with broken capillaries, but my face and chest (I get both done) are quite red for a day or two after the treatment. If you decide to do it, I definitely recommend that you go to a doctor rather than a spa.
Cost here in New York City is $195 per treatment, but my insurance covers 80% of it as a treatment for sun damage. |

Thanks for the advice. I think I'll just save my money and stick with my paula's choice 8%aha. It's much cheaper and probably works just as well! |

Hi Jag, I get better results from my Epidermx II than I ever got from my episodic microderm treatments. Fabulous product, the whole line has really taken about 15 years off of my face! You might like it, easy to use and smells really good!Great for the saggies:-) |

Ok...I want HER insurance carrier! Mine doesn't cover anything that could even be remotely viewed as cosmetic. |

Of course, we're all different, but I used to go to my derm for microderms. Without question, they totally, absolutely improved the appearance of my skin! I would get them 2 wks. apart and what a difference they made. My friend always knew when I had one because she would say I looked so "fresh". I had 3 or 4 microderms before I noticed any difference. I hightly recommend that procedure. BTW, the only reason I don't do them now is they are quite expensive where I live now. When I am able to more easily afford them, you can bet I'll be back on them. |

Depends on what results you're looking for.
According to the nurse practioner who treated me at the local medspa, microdermabrasion is effective at smoothing rough patches and making the skin feel softer. She might also have said microdermabrasion was good for fine lines, but that's not a big issue for me, so what I remember more clearly is that other treatments work better at reducing hyperpigmentation, redness & broken capillaries. I was looking to get rid of a big, ugly age spot, and redness was a second issue. The upshot is that after the first in a series of microdermabrasion treatments, I swapped out the rest of the series for IPL on her recommendation.
That said, the one microdermabrasion I had made my skin feel soft/smooth enough that I bought a home unit, which I'm still using. Those aren't nearly as effective as the medical/spa units, but to the good, they're cheap, and you can use them more often. Still, it's not a good idea to overdo any abrasion/peeling/exfoliation. The instructions on my unit says to build up to more frequent use, then give your face a complete rest for a while before starting the process again.
For the record, I was happy with the results of the IPL, but unfortunately, they weren't permanent. The age spot reappeared in less than a year. I'm trying other methods now, but might spring for another series if they all fail. |

I tried at-home microdermabrasion kits, it is not bad but works more like a scrub. I been looking into getting a professional one done to help with my acne scarring too |

I agree with Mountain Girl. Don't do it. Save your money. Use a spread on exfoliant you apply to the skin. The manual ones will mircroscopically tear your skin. Who needs that? |

Such a good choice Jag! The PC line really does make a difference to skin. |
