I wasn't sure where to post this so mods please redirect it if there is a more appropriate place:
I got this from Dr. Tony Youn's blog:
Ulthera - This is an ultrasound machine that can target its energy to heat up the platysma (neck muscle) in order to tighten it and therefore create a nicer neckline. The results look promising, but it is still under investigation.
Woot! |

That looks pretty good. Too bad it's not on sale in the US yet.
Some of the before/afters were impressive. |

I've just read a few of the studies on the ulthera website, and posted this on the Dermaroller thread...It's interesting to see the depth that Ulthera is going in its trials in order to achieve results. As a dermaroller devotee, I was discouraged at first glance to see that they are going more than double the depth achieved with dermarolling, but then it occurred to me that they need to go to greater depths to get around the fat loss that happened with Thermage, since both Ulthera and Thermage rely on thermal damage for results. Of course, dermarolling is relying on a physical wound/healing response with no collateral damage.
I would definitely wait a long while before trying Ulthera. At those operating depths, there is the risk that the very delicate lymphatic system will be damaged through superheating. It will be interesting to see if those treated with Ulthera end up with persistent swelling, as often happens after plastic surgery when the lymphatic system is compromised. |

Thanks Face Forward for posting this additinal info. Very interesting. I personally wouldn't go near anything remotely resembling Thermage with a ten foot pole. |

I thought it was working on muscle. I've got to run, but will check back later. |

Sorry but I can't find the before/afters I saw earlier. I thought they were in the published papers and looked through those, but couldn't find them. |
