Hi all,
A while ago I saw a dr. on t.v. saying that really the only product that helps rejuvenate your skin is AHA because it fools the skin into thinking it needs to regenerate. So I've been using Skin Medica 15% AHA/BHA under my moisturizer every am and pm. Is it too much to use an additional product with Retinol? My skin looks really pretty good for my age. No real wrinkles, a few little lines, some droopiness on either side of my mouth which I'll address in another post. What do you folks think? My skin is pretty dry and a little sensitive, especially around my eyes. Just want to keep that youthful look going! |

I would alternate nights with the retinol product and AHA. I wouldn't put one on over the other. |

Instead of using a Retinol product I'd go straight for prescription strength Retin-A. However, my Retin-A instruction leaflet does say to not use any other acids whilst using it (not that I take any notice of this). You could try introducing it into your routine a couple of nights a week.
On the other hand, if you have a routine that's working for you, why change it? |

You could also put the AHA product on in the morning, and then the retinol/retinoid in the pm. If you have sensitive skin, that may be too drying. You could also try what Dr. Yarosh recommended in his book; 6 weeks of AHA, 6 weeks of Retinoid - and continue alternating like that. Just a thought! |

I like the idea of alternating, maybe a.m. and p.m., or is that too much? My skin reacts well to the AHA/BHA. Which retinol product do you recommend? |

It's not too much for my skin, but I have really tough, non-reactive skin! You'll probably just have to play around and see how your skin reacts. If you are getting too dry, then you know it is "too much"! |

Avene makes a retinaldehyde product that also has 6% glycolic acid in it--Diacneal. It's been fine for me. But 15% AHA is quite a lot more.
Let me chime in on the "alternate them" bandwagon. |

I've been using an AHA product at night and ZO's Daily Renewal Creme during the day. It has retinol in it. The combination has been working nicely for me. |

i would also not suggest mixing AHA or BHA with retinol products.
i think that's overexfoliation and causes more bad than good. i would even go as far to say space out the days, for example, use retinol sunday, then aha wednesday, etc. also, i would advise using both product products only in the PM so that your skin barrier can be rebuilt while you sleep. |
