I had laser to remove the spidey veins on my cheeks and nose area and wish I never would have done it:( It hurt like hell, the derm said it would feel like a rubber band slapping against your skin, to me it felt like hot hot wax being poured slowly on your skin, the pain was even more excruciating when he did my nose area, I had to tell him to stop for a second, I couldn't take anymore pain!
At first he told me most people only get half their face done to see how it would go and then come back and get the other half done, but being 2 hours away I thought I'd take the plunge and get it over with, what a mistake that was! After the procedure my face was bright red and hot hot hot. When I got to the hotel room I had to put a cold wet cloth on just to cool it down, it felt like my face was on fire! That night I broke out in tiny blisters all over my cheeks and nose area, it was so bad they were busting and weeping all over my face and pouring down the front of my shirt! I didn't think this was normal and it was too late to call him so I just went to bed and in the morning my face was more of a mess! I woke up and looked in the mirror and couldn't believe that was me, "WHAT THE HECK HAVE I DONE TO MYSELF!!" My face was swollen and puffed out like that guy on "MASK" the movie and I had red marks and blisters all
over the place!
I called the derm as soon as I could and he said to come in and he'll take a look so I quickly showered and my husband drove down to his office where he told me that I looked fine and that this was normal, I couldn't believe it, he never told me that my face would be this a mess after the procedure!
So now I look a horrible mess, its been 2 days now, I'm still swollen up, and my face has raw red scabs and brown marks all over the cheeks and nose areas, I don't even want to go out in public, hubby says it looks fine, but I know he's just being supportive! I will never ever do any cosmetic procedures again in my life, hubby says why fool with perfection, my viens weren't that noticable anyways, only I could see them, or if my skin was irritated they become more pronounced, but that was better than what I have now.
And to top it all off it cost $750.00 , I had no idea it was going to be that much! Good thing I have a hcsa in my plan I can recoup that money!
So to make a long story short, think really hard about making any hasty decisions about fooling with mother nature...she could bite you in the butt
I will let you's know how it looks, 'IF' it ever clears up, hopefully soon!

Ooooh moosette you poor thing. I hope it calms down soon ans you see good results. I saw a programme on tv the other night that showed a lady having a chemical peel and her face was red for days and then the skin started peeling and she looked awful. Im sure there will be light at the end of the tunnel, all we can hope for Donna is its a very short tunnel. Sending you loving and caring vibes.. |

Gosh Donna it doesn't sound good ! And, it also doesn't sound like the common result....
I had lots of broken capillaries around my nose - it's hereditary and it really bothered me because, overall, my skin has been looking great. I never noticed them before and I'm not sure if it's because they got worse recently, or because I noticed them more when the overall condition of my skin improved.
In any case, my dermotologist is a laser specialist and she thought it was a good idea. It cost me about the same as what it cost you. She applied a topical cream to numb my skin before she used the laser, and that was a pain in the neck just because it meant hanging out for an hour doing nothing. I was glad that I decided to go for the topical numbing though, because even with it, I did feel the SNAP with every pass of the laser.
Afterwards, my face was spotted but it was nothing that a little foundation didn't cover. It never blistered, although the spots darkened. However, within 3 or 4 days, the spots were gone and so was every trace of the broken capillaries. I look better now without a stitch of makeup than I did before with it.
I know that laser peels can be very unpleasant during the healing process but the procedure used for dealing with things like broken capillaries is a different one and should never result in the kind of weeping you describe.
Even so, I suspect that within a few days, you'll be a happy camper again. But, with that said, I really wonder if your dermatologist didn't screw up. I've never heard of that kind of reaction to this procedure and I only went ahead with it after 3 or 4 friends did it with fabulous results.
Hopefully, in just a few days, you'll be gorgeous!!! |

Take heart, Moosette - in about 5 days you will be able to nicely conceal any remaining spots and no one will even know you had this procedure done. The day after I had my facial spider veins lasered, a family member passed away and I had to attend the wake and funeral. Most people thought I had been in a car accident. It looked much worse than it felt. I too was very disappointed in my surgeon for not explaining how I would look immediately after the procedure. Shock doesn't describe it! My advice is to stay away from mirrors, apply ice packs to reduce swelling and use an aloe vera gel WITHOUT alcohol and don't wash you face for several days. Good Luck. |

Thanks girls for your wonderful support and input on your experiences...Penelope I know what you mean about not being told how your skin could look after the procedure, I could live with the redness he said there might be but the blistering and scabs are a pain, I want to hide in my bedroom and pull the covers over my head till it goes away
Katee you were lucky to have that topical cream to numb the area, I had nothing, it really hurt, especially inside my nose area which is still really tender because on top of this I have a cold and blowing my nose makes it feel even worse! I had alot of laser done to my face, thats why I think it had such post-op trauma, he said most people endure about 250-300 pulses and I had 2100
This evening its looking better, although there are still quite abit of red scabby areas, the swelling has gone down considerably and I'm using an antibiotic ointment to help with the healing, hopefully in a couple more days I can look in the mirror again! |

2100 !!!!!!!! Owwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.... I can't believe he did that without a topical number. Ohhhhhhh my you poor girl... But, now, it makes more sense.
I'm certain that a week from now you'll be so delighted with the results that you won't even remember what a bummer it was....
Heck - look at all the women who keep having babies!! |

Thanks for sharing your experience with us. I hope you're feeling better soon. It sounds like your dermo needs to give out more information before going ahead with a patient. Keep in touch and let us know how it heals up. |

Are you getting photofacial treatments? I've gone in for several because i'm insecure about the red in my skin...They work a lot, but there are also tiny broken capillaries around my nose that i really want to get rid of. I dont feel pain through the process, but there are also different notches they use for different skin types. Since im extremely fair, they go gentle. I always insist they go higher but they tell me they don't want to burn my face. Can anyone recommend a proceeder that will eliminate redness AND the capillaries? It's worth it. even if there is pain: ( |

I had IPL several years ago. Bingo that was the end of the broken capillaries around my nose and on my cheeks. I worked in this salon and saw amazing results with Capillaries, Rosasha, and pigmentation problems. Let me tell you they really zapped me. I had no burns but did turn black and blue in a couple of places. It was very rare that I ever saw anyone get the black and blue that I did. It kind of scared me but I was assured that it would fade in a couple of days...which it did.The tech told me that the level of IPL was a bit too high but I could be assured that it blasted away the capillaries. No topical was applied for me as I could tolerate it. Just felt like a snap of a rubber band. If the IPL machine is set at the right level the phase of treatment should rid you of broken capillaries. Never did I see anyone get burns from IPL.
Unfortunately mine started coming back. If I knew this would happen I would have gone for a follow up anually to assure they would not return. GOOD LUCK |

The cold seems to take over my face er something. the sides of my temples kill though afterwards. I go in again next thursday...ill tell them to use less gel and zap more hehe |

It sounds like you only got it done once? I've been to more then one doctor and some are actually against it. They say it takes several to notice any difference at all, which is why after this im probably going to a different guy because he has a laser that will do the trick..But he told me i'd bruise bad which scared me immensely. But I really dont care now, i just want to look flawless :P |

I'm sorry to hear about your experience with laser treatment. I think you just went to a lousy doctor. I've had laser treatment for spider veins on my nose and on my legs several times and never had a reaction like yours. The reaction you had was never even given to me (by my doctor) as warning of possible reaction. The doctors I went to, of course, told me all the possible negative things that could happen and the worse case scenario was explained as some light bruising.
When I had laser on my nose it did hurt. But it was a quick stinging sensation. Once it was over there was no residual pain. I walked out of the office feeling absolutely fine. Also very little redness walking out of the office. Within 30 minutes not only did the color of my skin look fine, the spider veins look completely disappeared. (They tend to partially slowly come back over the next 48 hours)
At this point you should have a doctor keep an eye out on your healing, but don't back to the same doc. Find a good one - get a recommendation from someone if you can. And you might want to try a female doctor instead.
Oh, and I paid $150 (US dollars) for my nose area.
Hope this helps. |

Thanks hebarb and everyone else for your help! Well, its almost 5 days after the dermo from hell fried my face and its kinda clearing up a bit...the swelling is gone now, but I still have a few scabs on my cheek areas, with some reddish areas and 3 big scabs in my nose. The scabs in my nose are very tender because of my cold, I've been blowing my nose alot which causes the scabs to break and bleed! I also have fine little brown lines, I think where the blood vessels used to be, like dried up blood or something... Yuk, I can't wait till I look normal again, I looked so much better with my spider veins !
I hope it clears up by Saturday, it's our 1st wedding anniversary and hubby and I want to go out on the town!
Hebarb, don't worry I will never go back to him again, my experience has turned me off of ever doing any cosmetic procedures in the future...at least the near future! |
