MARK YOUR CALENDARS* $25 cosmetic giveaway January 20 at major dept stores.
As part of a class action settlement, many major retail stores will be
handing out up to $25 worth of free cosmetics starting January 20 to each
customer. No prior proof of purchase or receipt is required to take part in
this settlement offer. All that is required is that the customer show up at
the stores and fill out a short form stating that they had bought something
at the store during the period of 1994-2003 (no proof required).
Stores include Macy's, Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, among others.
More information can be had here:
http://www.cosmeticssettlement.com/
This will be a first come, first served event. No rainchecks will be given. |

I hope no one is expecting to get her choice of full-size products. The selection will vary by store, and the quantities will be limited. If you're going shopping, by all means, stop by the cosmetics counter and make your claim. I'm not sure it's worth a special trip.
I've followed this class action suit since the beginning. The "class", or injured parties, are those who bought department store cosmetics and fragrance - or basically, us. Purportedly, the stores and manufacturers were involved in price-fixing to our detriment.
Here's what each of the parties gets in the agreement:
The stores & manufacturers -
a) NOT to have to spend any time or money identifying who spent how much money on what products or where, and
b) The right to choose what to give away, including sample/"gift with purchase" sizes of products they want to promote, products in obsolete packaging, etc.
You & me -
A single product that may/may not retail for $25 (the products proposed started at $14), or be anything we'd normally buy. Someone who spent thousands on department store cosmetics gets no more than someone who made one small purchase.
The lawyers who brought the suit -
$23 million in cash.
Hell of a deal, huh? |

Might be worthwhile to go to each counter in each store and get your goodies. That's what I'm going to do - without an ounce of guilt. I've spent a fortune on products that don't work as advertised! |

Just wondering if anyone was able to get some free stuff out of this settlement since it was Jan 20th yesterday. I didn't have time to stop by the mall, thought some of you might have given it a try though. |
