I had my chest lasered for sun damage about 2 yrs ago. It really looked good, so I had it done again about 1 month ago.
On Friday, I went back to the clinic to show them that my result was spotty. I had some white round spots where the laser hit, surrounded by some brown areas that I wanted them to hit with the laser.
She didn't want to use the laser so soon, so she recommended a glycolic peel to lighten the brown areas.
They used 70% glycolic pads twice on my chest. I questioned that she didnt neutralize the acid, but she said "this doesn't need to be neutralized". My chest was burning a little, but not bad.
This is my chest now, (Sunday day 2) after a shower. I've been putting antibiotic ointment, and Vaseline on it. I've also been putting a light coat of CP serum.
My chest itches bad. I'm not scratching, but am afraid that once I go to sleep, I will.
What else should I do??? thanks!

Hi. I don't know I think I would go to my family doctor and see what he/she recommends...ie get a second opinion. You might want their advice about how to treat your skin rather than just using your own ideas. Good luck with that and take care. Harriet |

I think I would pay your doctor a visit that looks like a bad burn. |

thanks, I went back to the Laser clinic tonight. She said glycolic acid does need to be neutralized, but because I said it wasn't uncomfortable when they applied the acid, she thought I would be okay.
It looks better today. She said once it heals, it will look great. I guess I'm not so mad anymore. |

Your chest looks pretty normal for the strong treatments you described. I would not use CP serum while the skin is raw. Aquaphor works well to keep the area moist while it heals. Your concern about scratching is valid; I have scratched in my sleep before. I would apply hydrocortisone sparingly (with a doctor's ok, and with clean, clean hands), wear a high-necked tee shirt or some other protection to bed and wear gloves if you have them. Your nails can rip through the healing skin before you even wake up, leaving scars. Above all, don't let any sunlight get on your chest! I hope you get the results you want. |
