My hair stylist who I have been going to for about 8 years is having her first baby. I'm looking for suggestions for an appropriate gift. It's been a while since anyone I know has had a baby so I don't know what the "in" gifts are. Should I get something for the baby or something for the mom (eg. a diaper bag or something related). I'd appreciate any ideas! TIA

Gee, it would depend on the person the gift is intended for, I guess. After knowing her and listening to her for 8 years can you pick up on her preferences/needs? Like, what the colors are for the nursery, breastfeeding v. bottle, Pampers v diaper service???

Myself, I would get her gift certificates for favorite restaurants, movies, + IOU for babysitting....be creative!

Bouncers are fantastic gifts and they're not too expensive. I've posted a link below to Babies'R'Us but I'm not sure where you're located.

Bouncers are fantastic because they benefit Mommy too! They entertain the little one long enough to allow for a quick shower or other household chores. The motorized ones are best because they're like a portable rocker. I've noticed the newest ones have lots to entertain the baby. I think every Mom I know would die without theirs!

Another good idea is a gift for her to use for herself. She's going to be receiving lots of baby items at her showers so it might be nice to get her a gift basket filled with relaxing bubble bath beads, lotion etc. If you really want to be creative on this end, you could do a Mommy and Me gift basket and combine bath goodies for both baby and Mommy. I know Johnson & Johnson makes some nice lavender scented baby bath gel, Aveeno makes some good products and Weleda is a great natural line with baby items too!

I'm sure she'll be flattered with whatever you get her. It's super thoughtful!

Hi
I raised my kids and luckly very actively tended my gkids.
great gift is a crib mirror and also dont know the name but it attached to the crib and when the baby made a noise loud enough it would come on with a scrolling picture night light and music you can set the volume. After short while baby learns to calm itself if not hungry, wet or whatever.
A card with cash is nice too lol

I try to stick to the registry items....they picked that stuff themselves, so you always know that it will be appreciated!

I like to stick with registry items also. But, I also love to give Reisenthel market baskets. You can get them embroidered if you like. These always make great gifts. I order from an online store called a Touch of Europe, they cost about $40.00.

I'd get her a gift certificate for a manicure or pedicure. She can use that before the baby arrives, or afterwards when she's ready for some much-needed pampering. I remember being incapable of simply trimming my toenails (never mind the polish!) when I was eight months pregnant; I just couldn't bend over or see around my stomach...
