I know a lot of people want to find the cure to acne and pimples so I'm sure this question must become a bore to you people but I'll ask anyway,
In a little over 3 weeks I've got a very important event to attend and for a couple of years now I've had zits and and stuff, sometimes quite bad, sometimes mild. As it is as the moment, across my left cheek and chin there is just like red dots, and general redness, this is because of years of having lots of zits (it used to be worse) my skin is left damaged. On my right cheek I tend to get quite large zits that feel like bumps but after about 3 or 4 days they are absolutely bursting to pop and as one would expect, just a little press and it releases a lot of horrid white stuff, also with blood. Unfortinutely it settles down a bit but just stays as a small red bump on my face, I've had about 4 in the last year and I've still got some scars of the early ones and 2 bumps there now.
I find it very odd that one side of my face reacts differently to the other but oh well, I guess this is my question-
For the left hand side and my chin, what would you recomend? as it is actually just where my skin has gone red, either in dots or patches perhaps a chemical peel is a good idea? I don't know how quickly they work though. As for the right hand side, I just need to find a way or a product to get rid of those bumps when they occur.
Things I've tried-so many cleansers, benzoyl peroxide (didn't work at all) lavender and tea-tree oil, also didn't work. Blemish sticks, they don't work.
I think if I can find the right stuff to use, I could get rid of most of it in 3 weeks, I hope so. |

I break out more on one side of my face, too. I think this is because that's the side I'm always resting my face in my hand! Ugh. Anyway, I have no miracle solutions to offer you. I have suffered in the past with acne, and I still get breakouts but nothing major. I wash my face religiously twice a day and use a gentle loofah to exfoliate. I am very careful about what kinds of foods I eat, too. Since I have changed to a healthful diet, my skin problems have very much subsided. Those 'acne' OTC products with benzoyl peroxide have never worked for me, in fact I think they've done me harm.
My daily routine consists of Dr. Hauschka products. I use Cleansing Cream to wash and then mist my face with Clarifying toner. I use normalizing day oil during the days, and I use Cleansing Clay mask once or twice a week. Clay masks are good for acne prone skin, because they draw impurities and dirt out of your face. I also use rejuvenating mask as a spot treatment.
What is your daily facial regimen? Maybe it will be easier for the more knowledgeable people of this forum to spot where you may be going wrong. |

I finally recieved my order 2 days ago. My first experinece with Dr Hauschka Cleansing Clay Mask was a bit mixed, maybe I didn't use it the right way. My face felt hurt/scratched after using it. I then read the instruction, it says steamed your face before use and use warm water to wash off. (I washed it off with cold water.) I am going to give it few more tries. I had pretty good experience with DDF mint clay mask. My skin felt very soft and refreshed after use, and it certainly helped to clear my ances. |

Daniel,
The first thing you must not do is squeeze. I know it's tempting, but it just makes a mountain out of a molehill! I need to know a few things before I can offer any kind of advice.
1. What products are you currently using?
2. What is your skin type? Oily, combination, dry anywhere?
3. Are your pores large or normal?
4. Do you have whiteheads and/or blackheads, or just pimples?
5. What is your shaving routine? Wet or dry? Could these be ingrown hairs that get infected?
5. Are you using any steroids or pro-hormone weight lifting pills? |

Daniel this might or might not help you. It has been amazing for me, but I am only prone to some blackheads and mildly clogged pores and of course red marks left behind from past damage. Not sure if it would work with cyctic or severe acne.
I first steam my face over the sink and then lightly massage a generous amount of Jojoba oil all over my face, particularly concentrating on the problem areas. I just keep going all over in small circular motions (even eye area)and adding even more jojoba oil if I feel myself tugging at my skin. I probably do this for 20 mins or more. It'll seem like forever, but just keep lightly massaging. I've tried doing it for a shorter time and it just didn't work. What you'll see happening after massaging awhile is that any thing blocking your pores will begin to ease it's way out. Either the blackheads and hardened sebum will just literally pop out or at the very least pop out with very little effort from your fingers or an extractor. This is a way for me to pick without the damage! Of course you'll need to rinse the excess oil and yucky debris from your skin. Sometimes I just use a warm washcloth to take the excess off. Other times I've used a clay mask immediately after with good results or even a clay cleanser. You'll be able to see at this point what your skin might need.
No matter what I use to end the routine with I end up with glowing toned skin with not a red mark in site. This glowing effect usually lasts for 2-3 days so I repeat this about every 3 days if I'm not too lazy. When I keep this up there is very little coming out of my pores, but if I wait too long to do it again, I can literally see the gunk coming out. I know it sounds too simple to be true, and it may not work for everyone, but it is truly my little beauty secret. I've been meaning to try this with grapeseed or other oils but just haven't bought any yet.
Hope this helps!

Phredd4 - your way sounded too good, so I decided to try it earlier tonight. I used heavier cream (cuz I dont have any oil), and I was massaging circular around the whitehead for at least half an hour. Like you, I have mostly small blackhead or mildly clogged pores. But, nothing came out. Is it cream too heavy? or did I not do it right? |

I really don't know why the jojoba oil works for me, but I don't think that a heavy cream would do the same since I've massaged night creams in for years and they haven't helped at all in this way.
One day I had chapped skin and decided to massage the jojoba oil in for awhile for relief, so there wasn't much forethought on ingredients. I had purchased the jojoba oil previously because my dermatologist said that most common skin bacteria could not live in jojoba oil so it was a good moisturizer to use. All I know is somehow the jojoba oil assisted in breaking down the sebum in my clogged pores and since then I've started the whole routine of steaming, massaging the oil, etc. For all I know any other kind of oil would work because I really don't have any knowledge of the different oils. Maybe someone else here that's more "in the know" could help. Hopefully they'll chime in here and reply with a better answer.
What I do know is that jojoba oil doesn't work for everyone the same way. Some say it causes breakouts for them so it is apparently hit or miss. A wonderful "Hit" for me though.

I, too, tried the jojoba oil massage -- and it worked! I rubbed and rubbed. . . and you are right, you really do need to do this for at least 20 minutes before there is any effect. My skin started turning red on and around my nose, which is where I concentrated the rubbing, but it disappeared after a while. I also used a clay mask after my oil rub and it was great! Thank you so much for your suggestion! |

Now, I really have to give it a try. but .. Phredd4 - where can I get the jojoba oil? chimera or Phredd4 - I saw my skin truned red but how much longer I have to go before the yucky stuff popping out? Oh, are they just slowly getting out, or you can actually feel those popping out? |

Chimera: I am so glad it worked for you. I'm always worried about raving for a product for fear it won't work at all for others. Could you tell your skin tone was so much better too? I feel like I look atleast 5 years younger after doing this.
HappyGirl163: The brand I use is Desert Essence Pure Jojoba Oil and I buy it at www.vitacost.com I'm sure you could just buy any pure jojoba oil at your local health store. Vitacost does have a good price on it though (4 oz for $5.75). Here's the direct link to the product:
http://www.vitacost.com/store/products/productdescription.cfm?SKUNumber=718334220079&bt=brand
It really takes awhile for the massage. Maybe 20 mins wouldn't be enough for some people. The sebum will slowly begin to loosen and ultimately become dislodged at different times according to where you are concentrating your massage. It's not like they are popping out everywhere at once. If you decide to get the jojoba and use it please let us know the outcome!

I get this on my cheek, too. I also think it's from resting your head in your hand. Think of all the gunk that ends up on your hands during the day and that's pretty much what your pushing into your pores when you do that. I got out of that habit and I don't break out in that area anymore, but I too have the battle scars.
Don't pick! Stop picking! Let it poof up, do it's thing, dry out and fall off. Seriously, do not touch that zit. |

Daniel,
I have similar problems, but now I wash my face twice a day and I found the cleanser is very critical. Here are some good products I found useful to have your acne under control:
- MD Forte Facial Cleanser II
- DDF Clay Mint Mask
- Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant
I've tried other cleansers, none was effective as the MD Forte, and my experience with the DDF clay mask has been very positive. I recently purchased Dr. H's clay mask, which I dont particular like. |

when you rub with jojoba oil... do you have to do it over the steam? or just rub after having your face steamed??? |

Personally, I massage the oil in after the steaming and that is what works for me.
For blackheads traditional acne medications never seemed to help and usually made them worse. My theory is that the chemicals dry up and harden the sebum making it more difficult to get the blackhead out.
Like blackheads, whiteheads are caused by accumulation of hardened sebum or oils in the pores of the skin, but I have no idea how they could get loosened by the oil unless the massaging allows the oil to penetrate the skin. I exfoliate every other day with Dermalogica Microfoliant so this could be helping somewhat with the whiteheads.

phredd -- my skintone WAS much nicer after doing this. It really did take a long time to work though, probably about 30 minutes of constant rubbing. I also was mainly rubbing my nose, so if you do your entire face it might take even longer! My suggestion, if you are trying this for the first time, would be to concentrate on one problem area. I did not do this over steam, but I did steam my face for a good 10 - 15 minutes before rubbing.
Other ideas: maybe try warming the jojoba oil before using on the face, I do this when I do a jojoba oil hair treatment. Also perhaps adding a gentle exfoliant to the mix? Maybe baking soda or something (I guess add this toward the end, 30 minutes of baking soda scratching might be severe)? If I try any of this I will definitely post and let you know the results.
If anyone is interested, I used Aubrey Organics 100% Organic Jojoba oil. It's very nice, but it ended up being expensive...10 dollars for 2 oz.
Oh. . . and thank you phredd for a great suggestion!! |
