Hi there,
I have just purchased some retin A (0.5%) and have been using it nightly with a dermaroller. I have been reading up on all the threads but as there are so many I hope you don't mind me starting a new one?
I have been using it for 2 weeks and my skin hasn't peeled at all. It feels a tiny bit sore but I'm not sure if this is normal or if I should lay off the dermaroller and retin A combo?
thanks |

I dont have any experience with retin a but i can assure you that is okay to feel a bit sore if ur applying it post-roll, it is when u have excessive flaking and irritation that u should back off from retin a. As for the daily use of the dermarroler for product penetration, even with the baby roller, the experts recommend 2 or 3x a week |

I use a dermaroller and retin-a, but I only roll every 3-4 weeks--I'm doing it for stretchmarks so it's not on my face. I've only peeled in areas where my skin rubs together (like under the arms and boobs) so I think what you're saying is okay.
You roll every night? What size roller? |

If your skin feels sore you should take break. Soreness is not ok. Some times it take a few weeks to have any peeling from retin-a.
I agree w/PGirl unless you have a small size roller, I think up to .5 is ok to use nightly not 100% sure, you shouldnt be rolling every night. |

using the dermaroller makes u more sensitive to products, that's why u feel sore. its the normal= ok reaction to expect, |

Actually, Dr. Fernandes of Environ (one of the dermaroller experts) recommends using the home roller anywhere from 2-7 nights a week. According to the Environ website, "the more frequent the treatment, the better the result." |

Its normal for your skin to get dry/flakey when you start out. It can last several weeks but should even out eventually. |

I have been using the dermaroller 5 out of 7 nights per week. My skin hasn't been sore, only a tiny bit in the places where I put the retin A. I am very impressed with the dermaroller. I am using 1.5, which I got from e-bay for £12! |

A 1.5 5 nights a week?!!! Yikes. This is way way too often IMO. What are you rolling for?
Btw, there is a member (chinachatters) who posted on the dermarolling thread with photos of damage she'd done to her face by rolling too often. Food for thought. |

I am in agreement with the others. The 1.5 is not meant to be used that often. The information I posted from the Environ website was talking about the home roller (tiny needles!) |

I've been on Retin-A for 9 months, and my advice is to stick with it through the peeling and flaking. It takes months to see the results and eating a good diet (lots of fruits and veggies) help so much with reducing the inflammation associated with acne. This combination was the only thing that helped my really bad acne, and after 4 years of really bad acne, patience with retin-A paid off!
So, Stick with it, be patient and your skin will get used to Retin-A eventually though it will take weeks and months. You will probably stop flaking as much. Don't apply too much of it too. My derm also suggested using retin-A alternate nights, which I didn't (I used nightly).
I'm now off retin-A after my breakouts have cleared and am now using a retinol and C cream, which helps control any breakouts and to give the skin a beautiful radiant glow.
Good luck with it all! |

The thing is, I don't think your issue is a Retin-A issue. I think the problem is you're using a 1.5 roller 5 nights a week.
You're probably going to be sore forever if you keep it up! |

Your poor dermaroller. She probably doesn't understand why she's being punished and banned. |

retina is supposed to make you peel and flake, at least in the beginning. I don't know anything about a derma roller. Retina increases cell turnover, so that you shed the old skin cells and build new ones faster. So, peeling is normal. You're supposed to peel. |
