They are different methods of delivery of the ingredients, but most people start out with the cream, and use that for a while and see how your skin tolerates it, and then if you want to move on to a higher strength go for that. The micro is usually in higher strengths and releases the ingredients kind of throughout the night in a sprinkler kind of fashion - so you don't get an immediate whack of the 0.1% all at once - and thus you avoid some of the side effects.
The gel is supposed to be for oily skins, but most people I have spoken to always say they get the dreaded side effects. I have oily skin and the gel always gives me burns or redness and flaking and so I stick with the cream or micro.

I received samples of Retin-A Micro 0.04% from my dermatologist (about a year's worth; she's great!)
The problem I have with applying it to clean skin at night is it sinks right in and doesn't spread very well. I'm finding it really hard to make a tiny pea-sized amount cover my face! I'm used to lotions with Retinol which were a LOT easier to spread around. ![Confused](images/smiles/confused.gif) |
