Hi Zelda,

Is it pigmentation or patches? Sometimes I find that when I drop my Vitamin C Serum into the palm of my hand, I end up with a brownish/orange patch that I then need to scrub off.

Is the Vitamin C tinted or clear that you made? Sometimes I also find that a serum can cause some build up on my skin if I use too much, which is why I switched to a powder that I made myself and I haven't had this problem since.

There are powders you can buy that you mix with your moisturiser or they will liquefy with just the heat of your hand or skin and absorb that way.

Also is it highly concentrated?
Sorry about all the questions, as I had this exact conversation with a friend about Vitamin C Serums and how sometimes she felt she had brownish marks from using them.

This is a tough one. Could there possibly be something in the powder that could be causing this new pigmentation?

Also do you have a lot of sun exposure, as this can cause your skin to produce greater amounts of melanin and cause pigmentation. Do you use Retinol or Vitamin A serums or creams,as these combined with Vitamin C work really well to help fade pigmentation over time.

I also find that I am diligent with the sunscreen since I have started with Vitamin C and Retinol/Vitamin A due to the fact that it can make your skin a little more sensitive to the sun, but more so with Retinol/Vitamin A.

I did find an article which I will message to you, as I can't post a link on here because I'm a new member which discusses pigmentation and the causes etc.
If I find out anymore info on this I will post back.

Zelda,
Hi, can you post any other details about your skin care? Sunscreen is very important especially if going out right away after using C, it's important anyway. Hormonal changes? A ph balanced cleanser. You are seeing what I am saying? Smile

I believe your "C" should be protecting you from the sun and should not make your skin more vulnerable to hyperpigmentation. What else are you doing in your skin care regiment? A few years ago I got some dark splotches after doing a series of light peels (pumpkin peels) Shock and certainly wasn't expecting that.

Well it's very important to have sun protection all the time especially if you're using acids and peels as your skin is more sensitive. Vit C doesn't protect you from the sun, it's more like an anti-oxidant to counteract free radicals but you'll still get a sunburn with sun exposure.

Hope that helps! Smile
