Aside for Obagi, what product works well for hyper-pigmentation? I know someone posted here about Caudalie Radinece serum. Anyone else have success with that or any other suggestions?
(I did have a bit of pigmentation 4 years ago when I was pregnant but that all went away. I am starting to have it again now interestingly enough because I have a copper IUD. I couldn't figure of why I was having this problem but looked into it and the increased levels of copper can cause this. I've been taking zinc to help but it's not working so far. I can't tolerate hormonal bc and I don't know what to do if I need to get the IUD out. I'd go for a diaphram but I don't think the effectiveness % is that great. ) |

what causes increased levels of copper? (besides copper IUD). Cosmelan apparently works for melasma. |

Can you tell me what Cosmelan is (what is in it) and where you can get it?
When I was researching this it says that some people naturally have higher levels of copper than others. Also you can absorb copper from older copper water pipes. |

I swear by Phyto + for fading red spots caused by acne or sun. I've gone through about 3 bottles and it's the only thing after many that has truly saved my skin and works. It's especially great if you've got red marks from acne because it helps to get rid of the bacteria and just really heal the skin. I see a slight difference right away and within a couple of weeks the spots are gone.
There's a great whitening mask by Declor that really helps to brighten the face and reduce red spots as well. I remember people here chatting it up quite a bit with good reason - really helps to make the skin glow. |

I've been using Peter Thomas Roth's Potent Botanical Lightening Gel along with glycolic peels and it's breaking up my postinflammatory hyperpigmentation and melasma spots ("great" combo I've got, eh?)
It took about 2 weeks for improvment, and about 4-6 weeks to see significant results. |

I have dermal melasma from bc. Found that taking MSM supplements has helped a lot. Since I have sensitive, asian skin the cosmelan was too harsh and made the hyperpigmentation darker. I also have high levels of copper so I take zinc, l-glutathione, stay away from coffee, tea, chocolate, shellfish, avocados and wear sunscreen.
The upper lip hyperpigmentation has gone away completely by mega-dosing on MSM. The smudges on the sides of my mouth are fading by the diet changes as well as using Yonka 40 and 46 as well as some whitening serum from Artistry. I also love Juvedical's Day and Night creams. |

how do you find out if you have high levels of copper? I have never heard of this before....Plus I think I'm going to look into the MSM thing too. |

A few years ago, I had a horrible problem with melasma all over my face from the birth control pills I was using. I found an inexpensive kit made by DDF, and saw immediate results! Hope this helps |

Anyone else had success with the PTR line for hyper-pigmentation? I don't have red spots- just some brown spots that look like age spots but that I think are related to high copper levels. |

Does anyone have hyperpigmentation on their knees? I have it just under my knees and it's driving me crazy. Should I try the stuff that is made for the face? Do you have any better suggestions?
Thanks! ![Very Happy](images/smiles/biggrin.gif) |

For me, Retin-A at night and C+ Firming serum each AM, followed by La Roche Posay Dermo-Peds spray sunscreen has worked well. I also use Pevonia's lightening gel on specific spots. It contains azelaic acid, arbutin and alpha-hydroxy acids - all help to get rid of hyperpigmentation.
TCA and Lactic Acid peels on a bi-monthly basis have helped as well. The TCA is very good for spots on hands, chest, legs, especially - since it is quite strong.
I did not know that MSM helped with hyperpigmentation. I have noticed that my melasma has looked like it was "coming back" but I have also run out of MSM and haven't bought more...Guess I better get out to the store and get some more. |

Hmmm...I was thinking of trying Jaioli (sp?) as the people on the skincarerx melasma forums have had success with that. the good thing about it being on my knees is that i really don't care about peeling, etc., because nobody has to see that while it's healing.
So in your opinion, should I just directly try a TCA peel for it? Or should I try a cream first? There are so many out there - I don't know where to start! |

I'm no expert but I think if you swab your knees with alcohol to remove any oil/film etc. then use a good strong TCA peel (30%), you will see frosting and peeling within a week, then nicer, more even-toned skin. Body skin is harder to make peel (legs, etc.) but TCA is strong enough to get a good result.
I think using a cream on thicker skin like knees, elbows, etc. - it will take a long time to see a result. Just my opinion though. |

I had some spots on my lower legs from ingrown hairs and 30% glycolic acid peel (the only acid I have and use at the moment) really lightened those spots in just one use. I can barely see them and they used to be pretty dark. I think I'll do one more peel and that will be enough.
I didn't think it would burn as much as it did. It wasn't as bad as on the face, but the sting was still pretty strong. |

pumaka - I have exactly the same problem with ingrown hair scars.
Please could you let me know what brand glycolic acid you use, where to buy it and how to use it?
These scars on my legs are driving me crazy.
Thanks! |

I used to have lots of ingrown hair scars on my legs and started to manually exfoliate regularly with a bath brush and a gentle scrub. They began to fade and now are barely visible. The process took about two months and I have been exfoliating every day with hopes of total fade.
I think it'll work ![Exclamation](images/smiles/exclaim.gif) |

I think it's worth mentioning, I personally wouldn't do manual exfoliation on my legs because I'm super-prone to spiderveins and my legs are skinny so there's not much cushioning. I'd be afraid to get more broken caps.
I use glycolic acid with pH 2.3 from glymagic.com (they also sell on Ebay). |

Hi Majorb,
let us know if it works. If this 2-person trial proves it works, we can recommend it here as a known cure ![Smile](images/smiles/smile.gif) |

i bought the skinceuticals phyto corrective gel for my mom (not the phyto plus) and that is working wonders for her. |
