I am so excited to write this rave because I think I have found my HG cream. I have really dry winter skin which was made worse because I have been using proactive lately to clear up some stubborn blemishes. Anyway...I have been using cetephil lotion and it has been doing a ok job (no new blemishes and the dry skin is held at bay until late afternoon) but by the time I would get home from work my face was literally peeling. So...I was at whole foods and I remember seeing a review of Weleda Skin Food on MUA so I picked it up. I used it as a spot treatment the first day (on cheeks) and I could tell exactly where I had applied it because those areas were soft and smooth. So I decided to use it on my whole face that night....it does feel very thick but it sinks right in and in the morning....NO DRY SKIN anywhere....usually I wake up feeling really tight and dry. I also had NO blemishes...which usually pop right out after I use a heavy night cream. It was the weekend so I decided to use it as a day cream as well since I was not going to apply make up and again...skin felt great and no blemishes. The real test came yesterday when I used a little Skin Food mixed with my Cetephil and then used my MINERAL MAKEUP! Normally in the winter I have to switch to a moisturizing foundation which looks and feels very heavy because the powder MMU really makes my dry skin worse.....not this time. My face was hydrated all day and my MMU looked just as flawless as when I left that morning.
Texture: Thick but sinks in eventually
Smell: Herbal fruity
Uses: I have been using it on my face/lips/hands/feet and cuticles...even my dry winter nose which I blow 1000 times a day.
Price: $11.50 for a huge tube (will last forever) |

I love Weleda Skin Food too! I really like to use it after a peel or in extreme cold weather. Ive never broken out from it either, love the citrus smell! A HG staple in my skincare routine. |

I love, love, love the stuff too!
I especially love that it can be used on face & body - great to travel with if you're short on space!
Plus that smell... yummy! (bergamot freshness) |

I thought the smell was great too! The ease it great too....that is one of the reasons that I love cetephil because it can be used on face and body....but the container is not easy to pack and Weleda is so natural and I love the company. I'm so happy about finding this stuff! |

I love this stuff too. heard about it on MUA because I needed something for long plane trips. Most of the time this is too heavy but it made a huge difference on my neck. I would say almost all my lines and dryness went away. |

This cream really saved my skin after a very bad sunburn incident. It's way too thick to use on my skin (which is not very dry) on a regular basis but I slathered this on my burn and just watched it heal. It's a cream that I always want to have on hand for skin irritations etc. |

Can you describe the packaging please, and anything else written on this product. I've just looked on the Weleda UK site and there isn't a product called skin food...would be most grateful, thanks. |

I also like this cream. However, I use it as a foot cream. I tried to use it on my face, but after a few days I developed dry patches. |

I think that this is another product that you need to use sparingly on *wet* skin. It helps to also warm it up between your hands first. |

vonstella,
I did try it to use the way I use 'cream de la mer'. However, it did not agree with the skin on my face. I have a very sensitive skin and a lot of creams don't agree with it. |

Facial skin can be very tricky and temperamental! Im sure it does make a great foot cream(I should try that). |

I just wanted to add my 2 cents about Weleda Skin Food. We have this at home and LOVE it.
Texture wise, it is very similar to the Jurlique Day Care Face Cream/Creme de la mer. If using it on the face, it goes on MUCH better if you mist the skin first and then rub the cream between the palms to warm it up and then pat/press into the skin. Like others have said, I would not use it regularly on the face, but if I have been out in the sun or wind or snow or dry air or on long-haul plane flights. To use on the body, apply straight after getting out from the shower (dont dry your body off 100%, leave it feeling a little moist - again to help spread the thick cream).
I reckon this stuff would give a Rhino skin like a baby's butt it is so powerful. I like to use it on my hands and feet, in fact I like it much better for that than the Jurlique Rose Hand Cream that I have and considering it is about 1/4 the price, the Jurlique wont get replaced.
As for those who cannot find "skin food", try looking for "Citrus Haut Creme" or Citrus Body Cream as I have a *feeling* that this is the same product. Don't hold me to it though, I have not done an ingredient comparison to be 100% sure ... |

I was wondering if someone could please post the ingredients of this wonder moisturizer? Does anyone else use it both day and night with great results?

this stuff is great, but be warned -- may be too rich for acne prone skin. i adore this stuff and always keep a tube around for emergencies (especially burns), but i simply cannot use it anywhere on my face without breaking out no matter what application method i use. |

I was going to ask you if you had tried it in-flight and had breakout issues too.. .but then I remembered your episode with Guerlain's midnight secret in-flight...
How long did you use it for and get the breakout? I have used it a few times for in-flight and since I am heading off somewhere dry and cold on sunday I was going to try it as my day cream... now you have me worried (I don't wanna get a face load of zits..)...
Anything in particular you think might have been responsible? |

almost instantaneously -- i used it on sunburned skin and it worked beautifully to calm it down. the next night, it broke me out. any other time, i've tried the same thing happened. this seems to be an emergency-only product as far as my face is concerned. absolutely no clue what broke me out (unless perhaps the occlusiveness? my skin likes to breathe) -- just learned to stay away.
but that is me, and i seem to be way more sensitive on acne issues than you. since you've used it successfully, i say go for it! this stuff will definitely protect your face from chapping in the cold. hell, i don't think anything can penetrate after applying this. just use it with the mist/pat you've been doing and you should be fine.
as for my in-flight past escapades -- i've truly given up i'm simply hopeless! |

I dunno if the mist/pat thing makes any difference, I just find that is the only way I can get it on my skin because it is so thick.
You have me thinking now... when I am in-flight, it is for 9 hours.. about 1 hr into journey I do a quick cleanse (just milk cleanser and wipe off with wet towel, then applied depsea water and then a small amount of the skin food... then about 1-2 hours before landing I cleanse again and apply regular moisturizer... so therefore it was only on my face about 6 hours.. ... me thinks me might re-think this. |

Could it be the peanut oil? A lot of people seem to be allergic to peanut oil or something.. |

don't think it's the peanut oil.... i went and looked again at the ingredients -- it is, probably, the lanolin. i am very very allergic to wool. turn red and itchy and break out in hives almost instantly.
but then why can i use this on my hands and feet with no problem? weird....
ETA: tiger -- the rose oil capsules are absolutely lovely and can add another layer of moisture/protection to the skin. have never broken out from these either. admittedly, i usually only use them at night when needed, but i have put it on for day use (let it sink in first under moisturiser) in extreme conditions. |

I have been eyeing oil capsules for a while as i like the fact the oil is kept away from the air more than buying one in a bottle.. the primavera ones caugt my eye too... |

Probably shouldn't say this, but the Weleda oil capsules are VERY nice... |

What are the ingredients in this? |
|

The ingredients are:
Water (Aqua), Lanolin, Peanut Oil (Arachis Hypogaea), Sweet Almond Oil (Prunus Dulcis), Alcohol, Beeswax, Glyceryl Linoleate, Fragrance (Natural Essential Oils), Hydrolyzed Beeswax, Pansy Extract (Viola Tricolor), Matricaria Extract (Chamomilla Recutita), Calendula Extract (Calendula Officinalis), Cholesterol
I tried Skin Food for the first time a few weeks ago because I was looking for a less expensive alternative to my Jurlique hand cream. (The hand soap at my office is so harsh I have to apply lotion every time I wash my hands, so I was running through my Jurlique at an alarming pace, cost-wise.) Anyway, I tried the Skin Food and LOVED it. The smell is lovely, it works like a charm, and it's quite inexpensive. (I got mine at drugstore.com for $12.50 USD for a 2.5 oz tube.) |

I have a small sample tube of this and have been debating if I should try it. I see that it has Calendula in it and I have heard that if you have seasonal allergies to a plant called ragweed, that Calendula is some sort of derivative of that plant, has anyone else heard this before? Any truth to it? |
