Hi all,
Just another curiousity question....
I went for a Wholefoods shopping trip 2 days ago(not for food, but for the beauty isle). I got a few things, including Kimberly Sayer's Tangerine and Calendula face cream, KissMyFace's lavender exfoliating face wash, KissMyFace's pore shrink cleansing mask, John Master's Honey & Hibiscus hair conditioner, and John Master's hair pomade.
They are all still in my testing period, out of all I bought, the John Master's hair products seem to have greatest review. I tried the hair conditioner for 2 nights now on my hair, it felt good and smells great ! The problem is even though I don't mind paying money for good products, THIS ONE is way too expensive, it's $27 for a tube smaller than my toothpaste, but people swear by it. I looked at the ingredients tonight, of course sounds fantastic with all the nourishing oil and the first ingredient is Mango butter. It just happens that I have a jar of Mango body butter from the body shop laying around (supposed to be extra dry skin), and I was wondering if I should try this on my hair instead, not as a gloss but conditioner....
Any thoughts ?

I love the Whole Food beauty aisle!!!^-^
As for your idea, I've never tried using lotion/body butter as a conditioner, but if you try it, please report back. However, on one trip to Kyoto with some friends I forgot my overnight bag ( ) so I had to use the lotion in my purse as styling cream, and it actually worked pretty well! |

Over Christmas I accidentally put Almactin lotion on my hair (my mom had put some in a travel size bottle of Herbal Essence conditioner)...didn't really help or hurt it! |

I am gonna try the body shop mango body butter as conditioner tomorrow night, in theory, it should work, the first 3 main ingredients in this Mango oil, sweet almond oil, and cocoa butter. If it works OK, then I am gonna buy a cheap jar of mango butter (or whatever butter) from beloved natural store, and pour in all the different oil I have at home, and try it that way.
I don't think body lotion can be any good as a conditioner, butter with oil should at least produce somewhat similiar texture as conditioner....will see...new project for me

Well I cant see how it could hurt, although if anything I would probably try it as a mask as appose to a conditioner. But good luck! |

I use shea butter and camellia oil on the ends of my hair when they get dry. Just the right amount makes it looks healthy, too much and it looks greasy. I've used whatever kind of lotion is around to tame dry flyaway hair at times. |

I use unrefined shea butter as a leave-in conditioner sometimes (mostly on my ends). Just a bit goes a long way, and it works! |

Has anyone thought about using body butter... |
what a great idea!!!!
the ones that I have handy are plain ol' butters with nothing added (I'm a simple girl)- i could add some emu to my mango butter (a little stiffer in texture), or use the olive or avocado butters neat!!
i would be careful and check the ingredients of prepared butters - just make sure there's nothing nasty in them.
thanks for the fabulous idea! |

I think just by adding plain body butter with olive oil (cheapest) should already do a better job than regular conditioner out there. Can't wait to try it myself tonight.

I use shea butter a lot on my hair, both as a deep conditioner and a much smaller amount as a leave-in smoother. |

I was excited to see this post, as I just ordered 3 of the monoi body butters from candessence last nite I've also been doing a final rinse w/ a combo of EVOO and honey and it really seems to be helping. My hair is hilited, very curly, and frizz-prone, but the last 5" are straight as I'm growing out the Japanese hair straightening I had done 1 1/2 yrs ago, so the ends are VERY dry.
I'll let you know how the body butters work. Also waiting to get CareKate's list of pdts to try her deep hair treatment. |

I can't find any 'clean' hair conditioners near to where I live now, so i thought about trying some body butter instead. but before I try it I'm curious to hear your results. how did it work out for your hair? |

I don't see why you couldn't. I've been using Keys Mangrove Hair Conditioner and it could easily pass for thicker body lotion IMO:
Ingredients: Avocado Oil, Shea Butter, Black Cumin Oil, Aloe Vera, Brassica Oil, Blood Orange and Sage EO, Purified Water, Vegetable Glycerin, Vegetable Wax
There was some trial and error in the beginning with how much to use, particularly as a leave-in conditioner, without weighing down my fine but thick hair, but once I figured it out, it's been working really well. As a rinse-out conditioner, I'm always surprised at how quickly and cleanly it rinses. I've been through two bottles now. |

That's what I thought when I read the ingredients. My main concern was how well it would rinse out because it is very thick. I'm going to give it a try it. Thank you! |

In case it's helpful, the amount I use for leave-in is usually the size of quarter or less on wet hair. Good luck, lachina! |

I use organic extra virgin olive oil. I LOVE IT!
You only need a small amount, the size of a quarter. Rub it in your palms then rub it into your hair so only a small layer gets on and its even all over.
Its NOT greasy, doesn't smell, works great as a conditioner and lasts forever. I do this once a week and olive oil can be found in almost, has so many other cooking uses and can be kept forever.
I really recommend this. I have been doing it for the past 3 years, at zero cost since my mum buys the olive oil for me. |
