Has anyone ever made their own teeth whitening gel? It tastes like glycerine, and says it has H20...I am thinking that might be all it is!
I have been rinsing with diluted H20 and it seems to help with whitening. That is when it occured to me to make my own gel, for the teeth trays, so it would stay on longer.
I was wondering how many drops one would put in say a Tablespoon...perhaps even insert it in one of the used syringes!
I have accidently touched my skin with straight H20 and it takes a minute before you realize it---and you cant' really rinse it off, you have to wait it out. I would hate to burn my teeth, and have it electrify some nerve for ten minutes!
However, after pondering this, I thought, when I have had super strong gel in the past, it burned my gums, not my teeth. And you can tell, you just take it out.
I really need to get some more, I just ran out AGAIN. The one I got last time was $16 for 4 syringes. Which can't be more than a teaspoon's worth.. |

Hello, San Souci.
If you want the very best professional tooth whitener go to:
www.drgeorges.com
I have ordered from this site twice. The product works as well as the professional whitening I had previously, and you get a lot of it for only $19.99. If you already have custom trays just purchase the gel. If no custom trays, purchase the kit.
Complete Dental White Teeth Whitening System kit comes with:
Qty 1 - 5.2 oz/148 grams of professional strength teeth whitening gel
Qty 1 - Refillable syringe
Qty 2 - Warm & Form E-Z Trays™
Qty 1 - Detailed instructions |

H2O is plain old water, dear.
Peroxide is H2O2. that's what's used when you bleach your hair, as well as your teeth. Glycerine is just a filler. They ALL contain the exact same stuff. Only more or less strength on the Peroxide.
Your best bet is to get whitening gel off of eBay, even the 44% strength costs next to nothing, and those syringes you get last and last. It just isn't worth it, making your own. I don't see why anyone would bother to when it's so ridiculously inexpensive on eBay. |

I read a discussion about tooth whitening on one of the MIY sites quite a while ago. They were talking about ear wax remover as a substitute for a whitening kit because it's cheaper and because it has the same kind of peroxide in the same proportions as whitening kits.
Check on the gardenofwisdom.com site. |

Thank you for the correction SwedishCharlotte. And the link Chinachatters.
I don't think the gel is ridiculously cheap...its about $20 for 4 syringes, which barely lasts a week, I have not tried the link the first poster sent yet. (Thanks, Determined!)
I already have the 35% food grade hydrogen peroxide and glycerin. I knew glycerin was a filler, I was using it as something to make the peroxide stick to the trays, and also to dilute it.
Since gel is just glycerin and peroxide, why not mix it myself; I already have both ingredients.
I just didn't know the ratio. (I don't like the idea of using the peroxide that is sold in a beauty supply store in my mouth, I prefer food grade.)
As an update, I did make my own and it works. Its runny..I tried mixing it with toothpaste since its thicker than glycerin, but it was also runny and more trouble.
Although I would prefer that it not be runny, its OK. As long as it sticks enough to the trays, its good enough.
I did find a really nice source on ebay, but it was really burning my gums. For some reason, my own mix doesn't. I take it off when it stops bubbling, which is about 5 minutes. That is also a bonus, the trays are uncomfortable---with the kind I had been purchasing, and I have tried several brands over the years, I usually left them on for 30 minutes.
And it appears to do the same amount of whitening, using my own mix, as about 3 or 4 days of using the trays for 30 minutes. Perhaps because its fresh, which I have read is something to watch for.
It doesn't make any sense, as you would think that the kind that burns would be stronger, but it doesn't appear to be the case.
I make up a teaspoon at a time, and use the old syringe. I tried it on my hand first to see if it would burn. It doesn't. The ratio for me is about half and half, which was a surprise, that I could go that high. If I go any higher, its too runny for the trays.
Just rinsing with it helps too! Like oil pulling, only using the peroxide. I had the idea of using it in the trays, to make it stay longer. |

always a winner... and gentle too
i would be careful of anything too abrasive though because whiting teeth is actually stripping your tooth of its enamel which you need for strong healthy teeth! |
