Hi all
I'm really sorry if this has already been asked but i couldnt find it. Has anyone used the skinactives 'make your own' la mer kit? If so, can you please let me know how you found using it, is it really the same as La Mer? I only use it as an eye cream and cant bear parting with the $400+ it costs in australia!
Thanks so much - i love how helpful this wonderful site is!
xx

Can you say more about it?
What's included in la mer kit? |

Sure - here's what the site says you get.
Further information: Included in the kit: 4 oz. Canvas base Creme 2 oz. Sea kelp bioferment 2 mL lipophilic antioxidant complex (astaxanthin, tocotrienols, natural vitamin E, lycopene) Empty jars: two 2oz. jars. Other items: spatulas (2), transfer pipettes (4), fragrances (2 mL apple and 2 mL pomegranate), 2 mL each of mild surfactants to make your own shampoo and cleanser. Detailed instructions and "recipes" are included, and pre- and post-purchase customer service are excellent.
And:
Properties: This kit comprises 4 oz. of best quality base cream + 2 oz. of sea kelp bioferment plus other actives and implements.
The bioferment provides a full nutrient complement to the skin; algae polysaccharides make this an ideal moisturizer (especially if you wish to avoid oils). This is the active ingredient in Creme de la Mer and we are really pleased to be able to offer an excellent active at an affordable price.
Use: mix with the Canvas base cream included in the kit to provide your skin the minerals, vitamins, amino acids and sugars that it needs for renewal. The bioferment may be added to your bath, applied directly to your skin. All this in a translucent, lovely "lotion" that is a pleasure to use. It can be used as a cleanser (after adding the very mild surfactant included in the kit) or as a scalp tonic.
From a happy client: "...dampen your hair and put a bit of the Kelp extract though it and rub it into your scalp leave it for a good while it will make your hair grow as the nutrients in it are so good for that and will make your hair shine and a little trick I've found if you leave it in your hair after its washed what a shine you will get."
Further information: Macrocystis pyrifera is a sea macroalgae rich in caragenaan, algin, fucose and fucoidans, minerals and many active chemicals. Fermentation makes the cell contents of this algae readily available to your skin, moisturizing it and providing the nutrients required to synthesize new components. This is the key ingredient (the Miracle Broth™) in Crème de la Mer, Macrocystis pyrifera is fermented by the same microorganisms that convert milk into yoghurt. Complement this active with rosehip oil to supply the essential fatty acids required to maintain cell integrity. |

hi mjlover,
i havent tried their la Mer kit but i did buy the Sea Kelp Bioferment (the active ingredient in La Mer) plus many other products from them. i must say the SKB really worth a try. it contains many nutrients for your skin and it's easy to use (can be mixed with a lot of other products). thus i think their la mer kit might be worth a try... |

If it's SKB you're looking for, NCNproskincare offers the same SKB [from the same supplier] for much less than you can purchase it from Skin Actives. $25 USD for an 8 oz. bottle. Or, you can purchase 8 oz. of Seamollient from GOW for less than $10 USD. The primary diff. between SKB and seamollient is that SKB is fermented. Some ladies who've used both don't report any difference in performance.
I just started using seamollient this week, it's too soon to see if I can tell any difference either, but it does seem a little less prone to "balling up" I've experienced with SKB. |

Hi Athena,
do keep us posted on your progress on seamollient! I've been using SKB on almost everything (shampoo, conditioner, cream, lotion etc)... if seamollient could work the same, that would be great as it's much cheaper and i can use it on shampoo/ conditioner and save the more expensive SKB for skincare!
thx!!! |

I didn't find the kit to be anything special. I have never used the expensive La Mer so I can't compare. If you want to try DIY, this might be a good place to start for not too much money. Otherwise buy the SKB and use in any other moisturizer you already have. |

This is an old thread, but there has to be someone here who has used both creme de la mer and the DIY skinactives version...
Is there a camparison? |

I am currently using the real LaMer right now and have been for a couple of weeks. I have enough to last a long time, but after it runs out I might try the DIY version to compare. |

is it just the price tag that makes us think it is better?
some studies have shown that no 7 (sold in the uk) protect and perfect serum is on par with the creme de la mer, but for a fraction of the price....
my mom swears by no 7
and she has tried both |

I've heard you are supposed to warm la mer by rubbing in between your hands before you use it. Do you do this? |

I had purchased the full size and have just returned it. My face broke out in cysts, which I haven't had in ages. Not the product for me,so I am not sure I will try the kit.
For me, wasn't worth the price. Cysts aside, there were no other benefits that I could tell from using this cream compared to any other I have tried. That was the main consensus from those in my thread who had tried it as well.
Oh well, I did have high hopes. |
