Hello Everyone,
I've been searching through the forum for a few posts and I'm terribly sorry if these questions, that I'm sure are super common, have been answered before.
I'm a 27 year young caucasian/asian female with combination skin. I have some freckles (sun damage) and acne that I am trying to get rid of. I am therefore on the Obagi system (with 0.05% tretinoin) since it seemed like a great choice. I'm currently 27 days into the system. I've been using the system religiously day and night following each step as instructed. I've had the tomato look during week one and two but this has subsided some. I now have two issues that I've run into. One of them I've read somewhere on here before. I've been experience very, VERY heavy peeling. I'm getting a little concerned because the peeling is daily and I'm peeling large sheets of skin! It doesn't hurt and it comes off easily with no tugging or resistance. The skin underneath is soft and smooth without damage. I'm still concerned about the normalcy of this. Another concern of mine is, on my chin I have developed three tiny blisters that are now healing. Is this normal? I haven't experienced any other blistering, but this was of some concern to me. Has anyone else experienced this? I will be seeing my Derm shortly, but I was wondering if any of you kind folks had any ideas about this? How long does the peeling normally last? Also, does anyone have any ideas of how to control the peeling using scrubs or devices such as Clarisonic?
Thank you so much for reading!

The aggressive peeling you describe is normal when you jump into using tretinoin nightly. It can take several weeks for your skin adjust. Its usually better to start off using it slowly and work your way up to nightly.
I would not suggest using any scrubs or anything else to help accelerate the peeling. Just keep your skin well moisturized.
I suspect the blisters are from too much irritation. I would avoid apply any product to that area. |

GirlieGirl,
Thank you for your advice. I stopped using the tretenoin on the blistered up area a few days ago and it's healing better.
I was hoping to have some advice on how to get rid off all this peeling, lol, but keeping my skin heavily moisturised might just do the trick for now. It is just difficult running around in public looking like a shedding snake. Thanks again! |
