Does anybody have any recommendations for a sunscreen (spf 20) that has a mattifying effect? My skin is at the point that I really wouldn't bother dusting with powder if I my skin wasn't so incredibly SHINY after I put on my sunscreen.... |

This is a difficult one. Very few photostable sunscreens on the market is matte. Most sunscreen ingredients are lipid soluble and are incorporated into the oil phase of the emulsion. Water or alcohol based gels provide less greasy sunscreens, but they rely on the more limited number of water soluble sunscreen ingredients and are less substantive (waterproof) with a greater potential for irritation.
I don't know if you can get a brand called Sunkiller, which is available in Asia. It is a very light liquid and there is one in the range which incorporates a powder. I have tried it and it is like putting a mattifying moisturiser on.
Another one you can try is Peter Thomas Roth's Ultra Lite Oil Free Sunblock SPF 30, which is a "dry" formula. However, this product is not completely photostable.
Why not try mineral powder makeup instead? |

Hmmmm...ah well thank you.
Re the mineral powder make-up - the whole reason for wanting a sunscreen that is matte is cause I'd like to forego the makeup altogether. Once I'm committed to using powder, I'm happy with the LeClerc - but I'd rather be barefaced in the summer. |

Why I suggested mineral makeup is so that you can forego putting sunscreen, especially if you are looking for SPF 20 and not higher.
Generally, physical sunscreens are less greasy than chemical ones.
Hope that helps. |

Ahh now I understand Actually, I asked my dermatologist and she gave me something to try which I had not heard of before. Its called Lasting Results SPF30 by Prescribed Solutions. So far so good. She told me that a tiny bit goes a long long way; I'm trying it now and I will say it has a really nice consistency and so far I don't look like an environmental hazard. Laughing...
Thank you for the clarification on the mineral makeup though.... |

Do you know what sunscreen actives are in the Lasting Results?
I'm a little surprised that your derm told you that a "tiny bit goes a long way". Sunscreens need to be applied sufficiently to obtain the stated SPF.
Sorry ... I'm a bit of a sunscreen fanatic. |

Katee,
I tried this new sunscreen today and I was going to write a review on it...then, voilla, I saw your post.
It's a warm day here in DC so I decided to take my new sunscreen out of the medicine cabinet. It's by Topix Pharmaceuticals and it's called: Topix Glycolix Elite Sunscreen SPF 30.
(I know, it's 10 spf over what you said, but still! )
When I put it on my face today I was suprised how matt it come across. While it did take a few seconds to blend in with my face, it never really felt greasy. I love a lot of things that Topix makes (except their Replenix Retinol Serum ) and I am a fan of this one too. It is in a pump bottle too so you can take it out a little at a time. I guess it's better for your face than your body because it would take so many pumps to get enough sunscreen out for your whole body!
this is what it says about it on skin-etc:
"Topix Glycolic Elite Sunscreen SPF 30 has been specially formulated with Micronized Zinc Oxide to provide the highest level of broad spectrum protection in combination with a rich blend of free radical quenching antioxidants consisting of Liposomal Vitamins A, C, E, Green Extract and Co-Q10. This oil free formulation provides up to 30 times your skin's natural protection from sunburn, and permits no tanning."
hope I helped |

Ah thank you for the help ladies!
This PrescribedSolutions stuff is really a nice product and she gave me a very generous sample, which will last for awhile. A full tube of it runs over $50 though and, even though I'm generally quick with the plastic, that's pretty rich for a sunscreen!
I'll definitely check out the Topix misskoslow... I like the idea of a pump! |
