Hi all,
Background info on my skin:
- I first had acne when I was around 9-10 years old and I'm almost 21 now
- For the most part, I pretty much have it under control now, but I still have many, many blackheads (forehead, cheeks, nose) and some acne scars. I do get hormonal acne before TOTM. I've also found that soy makes me break out as well.
My routine:
AM
- Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser
- Paula's Choice 1% BHA Lotion
- Neutrogena SPF 55
- Makeup
PM
- MAC Cleanse Off Oil
- Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser
- Paula's Choice 1% BHA Lotion
I have very sensitive skin and this routine has pretty much calmed my skin and kept acne under control. The PC BHA has really helped and I hope it'll help with my blackheads as well. I've been doing this routine for the past month or two.
I don't use physical scrubs anymore (I haven't for years) because they irritate my skin. I can't use any type of mask either.
There are times when my skin gets dry and flakey (mostly on the cheeks) and I've tried so many moisturizers over the past 10 years, but they've all clogged my pores or made me break out. I can tolerate Clinique's DDMG (lotion clogs), but it doesn't seem moisturizing enough.
My complexion is dull and was recommended trying a retinol product. I tried Neutrogena Healthy Skin Anti-Wrinkle Cream 2-3 days ago and since then my cheeks have gotten super dry and somewhat red as well. Is this what's supposed to happen? Should I continue to use this? If yes, should I wait until my skin calms down before using it again?
I was also recommended trying a Vit. C product, which I did, but it made my skin red, raw, and extremely drying so I stopped that immediately.
I would like to find something to brighten my skin and a moisturizer as well because I feel like my skin is very dehydrated.
Any recs or advice? |

Interesting about the soy.. I should look at that as a possible sensitivity for myself. I read that it's actually a common food for people to be sensitive or allergic to.
I think a serum might be a good alternative to a moisturizer. In my experience my skin handles serums far better than creams and lotions. I really like Estee Lauder's Advanced Night repair Concentrate. You won't believe what it can do for your skin. (Well I would hope that would be the case!).
Personally I really like thermal sprays (I usually stick to Vichy). It;s actually got a reputation as sort of a natural decongestant for pores. Check out MUA reviews if you will. And it is soo soothing.
As for masks I think you could use Pangaea's Acai mask (found on EDS). Man is that baby nice for the skin. It's non-irritating, smells lovely and has beneficial ingredients for your skin. The kaolin will suck out those imperfections and the rest will soothe and moisturize. It's a perfect balancing mask.
I hope this helps you a bit! |
