This has been going on for a couple of months now.
*Disclaimer: nope, I'm not pregnant!
After I eat, I feel heavy and full and generally icky. I eat pretty healthily -- not much sweets, not much fried stuff, the rare soda, no caffeine, I like fruits and veggies, etc. -- and I don't eat huge amounts, so I'm not sure what's going on.
Anyone else had anything like this? |

Do you actually feel sick? I know after I eat at times I feel sluggish and sleepy, but never 'ill'.
Has this been as of late? If so what after what foods have you been feeling this way? |

Yes, I feel a tad sick at the stomach after I eat. It's been going on for a couple of months, I'd say. I feel sick and too full, even if I eat only a small amount. It seems to happen with anything I eat. Today, for example, I had half of a turkey sandwich and some chips, and now I feel like I'm about to explode. Fortunately, it's not every single day. It might happen two or three days in a row, and skip the fourth day.
This is getting me into the unhealthy habit of eating only one meal a day, because I don't feel like eating dinner.
I just don't understand it -- I'm hardly ever sick, I exercise, eat right, don't smoke, rarely drink, don't use drugs, drink eight or ten glasses of water a day.
Yuck...if it doesn't stop by the time I get my company insurance, I will certainly be going to the doctor. |

Are you stressed?
I get like that when I'm stressed - basically I'm getting heartburn but it's not burning like heartburn - my stomach just aches and feels crappy.
Or possibly you need more fiber?
Did you have a flu before this started? Maybe your system is still adjusting. You know, like your maybe your stomach was irritated and it's trying to get back to normal. |

Nope, no stress here. I have a cool job that I thoroughly enjoy (intern architect at a really, really cool firm) and I am happy in my personal life.
No flu either. Ya know, I don't think I've ever had the flu.
Maybe it IS lack of fiber. Since my husband and I moved out of my mom's place (where we lived for six months), we have not been eating as much bread. Since I hardly ever eat fast food anymore (i.e. hamburgers), I get even less bread. I think I'll get a loaf of bread and eat some every day and see if that helps.
Thank you all for your help! I'm hoping it's nothing serious. My father died of colon cancer last year at this time, so I have all of these horrible visions dancing in my head. |

I think I'd def see a doctor. I think once in a blue moon, I'll feel ill after eating, but rare. Had real bad stomach problems when I was having an extented allergic reaction to pennecillin (long story), and I will say my stomch hurttttttttttttttt. But def see a dr. if its nothing at least you'll get some peace of mind. |

Yeah...peace of mind is worth a little discomfort. That's probably what I'll do -- hop on down to the doc. That, and take more fiber! |

I do know long long ago I bordered on hypoglicymia...(bad spelling sry) and I'd feel sick as can be if I didn't get food in me fast. So maybe ur sugars are going opposite direction, since you do eat alot of fruit, they are loaded with sugar!! |

Maybe I am becoming a diabetic or something like that. My dad had it, but it didn't appear until he was in his 50's.
Maybe I have an ulcer. Anyone have one of those, and if so, what are the symptoms? |

Red Devil, I had a duodenal (sp?) ulcer years and years ago. It did start like that then when I lay down at night, I'd have a feeling of tremendous pressure on my chest.
I think, since it's been going on for a while, you should see a doctor. At the very least to rule out possibly serious issues.

Hrm...can't say I feel any pressure on my chest. It's all in the stomach!
Just now, though, I ate dinner, and I DON'T feel like crap! Yay! |

That's great, but seriously, you probably should see a doctor just to be sure. If anything, s/he can prescribe something to help for a few days. |

RedDevil, Have you tried anything like Pepcid and goes it help. I'm an RN but no doctor, could it be the beginnings of reflux? Definetly see a MD id persists or worsens. Hope you feel better. |

hey - that's what my allergist thought too. My coughing from allergies was irritating my esophagus. A male allergist prescribed Nexxium - but then a female allergist prescribed AcipheX. She said that it was better tolerated in women???? Have you heard that?
I was also prescribed generic Zantac by a physician's assistant for what seemed ulcer-like. |

I didn't even think about acid reflux. I thought that acid reflux is when your esophagus feels raw? I can't say that I've ever had that. This icky feeling is mostly in my stomach/intestines. Maybe I should try Pepcid and see what happens.
I haven't eaten today yet...we'll see what happens after lunch. |

I never felt a thing. The allergists thought it was acid reflux because when my allergies flare up - I cough. It got so bad that one company set me up in a private conference room - people thought I was contagious. Doc also said that they're now thinking that's why bed-ridden people cough more ... the incline is conducive to creating acid reflux.
I think it's a catch-22 - the more I cough, the more acid gets into my esophagus.
With my prescription for generic Zantac - I had odd stomach feelings. Not pain, just felt weird. It cumulated when I ate homemade pasta and 10 minutes later ... boom ... threw up. No nausea, everything just came up.
Just remember too - it takes time for all of these to work and there are subtle differences (hence I have all 3) so it is best to talk to a doc. |

Does acid reflux feel like heartburn? I get those all the time (damn I hate being Korean sometimes, I eat kimchee 24/7 ). If it does not sure if I'd consider it being acid reflux because it doesn't make me feel sick, but then again it could be since it happens after you eat.
BTW, I'm glad you went through a meal without feeling sick..yay! |

Hrm...I always thought that acid reflux would be painful. Wacky. You see those commercials with people sitting up in bed, clutching their chest/throat and making horrible grimaces. Yikes!!
I can see how coughing would make acid come up into your throat. I know that my throat feels awful after throwing up. I have seen a person cough so hard that they threw up. (This happened at McDonald's, long ago, right as I took a bite of my double cheeseburger with mayo. Mmm. Appetizing.)
I just polished off a yummy Subway sandwich and cheetos, and green tea, so let's see how I feel in a bit. Pretty good, at the moment! |

That's the thing - not everyone feels it. I think most of the 'pain' is probably more with heartburn. Anyway, that's what my allergist said - that for decades they thought older, bed-ridden people were coughing due to viruses but the recent thinking is that it's acid reflux.
Even this last allergist I went to ... she listened to my lungs and prescribed AcipHeX because she said anyone coughing that hard would just have to develop acid reflux b/c the esophagus gets damaged with the acid coming up |

Nice emoticon!!
I thought that acid reflux and heartburn were the same thing. Geez, I am miserably uninformed.
I *thought* I was OK, but now I'm feeling it. |

Aww..I'm sorry. Have you considered indigestion? Although it would be weird for it to be happening for this period of time (over a week?). Try something carbonated to maybe break down the food faster. Might be an old wives tale, but anytime I felt indigestion or something after eating my mom would make me drink coca cola or 7-Up, remember my grandmother made me do this also. They said it would help digest the food faster..who knows
I thought acid reflux and heartburn were one in the same myself. I'm sure a quick google search can fix that. |
