How do you hold your teeth (or the jaw) while being in your normal state? Do you force them at all?
Do you bite them together and therefore make the face stronger or hold them loose to make the face longer and the cheeks more present? How loose? Or do you hold your mouth slightly opened like some models do to get that sensual and deep look? Is it healthy or unhealthy to force your face like that to the muscles, teeth and lips? "Ageless if You dare" book says that a shorter face is younger and more beautiful. That would mean pressing the teeth together. Which look is the most pleasant? |

I don't think you want to press your teeth together on a regular basis - this would over time enlarge the masseter too much, cause some loss of tooth structure as well and even could be uncomfortable in terms of occlusion (your bite over time). I don't think that's what LouLou is talking about when she mentions keeping the face short. She is referring to the elongation of the mouth to nose area, chin area, forehead - it is an overall thing, not one necessarily influenced by how you hold your mouth. |

Yeah, but when I hold my face loose and long, doesn't that accelerate the process? |

I asked my orthodontist about this once and he said naturally we tend to hold our mouths closed, but our teeth a little apart.
Pressing your teeth together horizontally elongates your mouth/lips, which makes your lips look thin. IMO thin lips do as much or more to make us look older than almost anything else, including elongation of different areas of your face. The actual loss of (or merely the appearance of loss of) lip volume is a pretty big sign of aging. |

I have small teeth and it overlaps when I bite down. I cant forcefully smile widely with the teeth revealed. So I smile with my mouth closed. Haha I look horrible if I smile with my mouth open. |

That's actually the point of my problem and this thread also. I have a very deep overbite plus small teeth that don't reveal themselves while smiling. So that's why I also smile with my mouth closed : not to look toothless.
And as the deep overbite makes my face abnormally short and jaw receded, I never hold my teeth together. When I have a few cm-s between them I look good (except the damned fine lines under eyes of course...): longer and manlier face with high and stronger cheekbones which even create the dark hollows under them (much like this: http://www.sugarslam.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/robert_pattinson.jpg). It annoys me that this beautiful look has to be forced and doesn't come so naturally because of the overbite, unlike all my relatives who don't have teeth problems and simply look like that. What worries me even more, is that isn't this kind of unnatural forcing actually bad to my facial muscles and structure. |

vor - do you do facial exercises? or have you read LouLouu's book Ageless if you dare? It talks about holding your face.
I do not think holding your face in a certain position is going to cause elongation but holding it with cheekbones raised - a 'feel' of lift to your face and a naturally upturned mouth (vs sour and or straight lip) is going to look more pleasant right off. I would not clench my teeth- I think that might actually decrease a pleasant approachable look.
And there is nothing wrong with a smile that does not show teeth. |
