I've been using retin-a 0.05% for 1.5 yrs and just upgraded to 0.1%. I used 0.1% on my face and neck for 4 nights and my skin became very red and it felt just like a sore sunburn. I stopped using it for 3 nights and my skin has peeled lightly, and the soreness has gone. Is it safe for me to start using it again or should I alternate 1 night 0.05% and the next night 0.1%? I really want to upgrade to the 0.1% permanently as my skin is sooo used to the 0.05%. |

I think you should alternate nights with the .01. But I think you should do the retin a one night and nothing except maybe an oil the next night. Then start doing 2 nights on the retin a and one night off, and work your way up that way. I think if you use the .05 one night and the .01 the next you will still get a lot of irritation, it might be best to give yourself an off night while trying to adjust to the .01. |

Is that mean that your skin have no benefits from 0,05 no more? |

Thanks everyone! Last night I used 0.05% and my skin didn't burn at all. I'm going to alternate 0.1 and 0.05 until my skin adjusts to 0.5.
Mirjana, yeah, my skin is so used to retin a 0.05 that I decided to upgrade. |

I have similar thoughts to jom about using it day on, day off with an oil. Although the original studies were done using it nightly, many pros say its a waste of product to do so, and encourages the body to be lazy.
Also with 0.05% thats a good strength, and so it will be doing its job, even if you have been using it a while. Although I use 0.1% now, I only moved up to it after a pro recommended I did so, but I used 0.5 for about 2 years before that leap and when I run short on 0.1% if I have 0.5% I will use that in its place. Although 0.1% is a higher strength, its not necessary to move to that level in order to reap the benefits, and the fact that your skin is burning etc already, kind of symbolises to me its a bit too high for you at this moment in time. |

Sorry of bothering you again, but I am really trying to find all answers about RA - just started to deal with it, and I am a little afraid that my expectations are too big.
When you said that you skin is used it to - do you think that your skin no longer reacts with flaking, redness et cetera or that processes in the skin (collagen producing) are weaker so your skin need stronger RA? If so, how did you come to this conclusion?
I have been reading posts which says about 15 or 20 years of using RA and it is little confusing... by this logic ... what happened with time - could skin stop reacting on RA or something like that....
Sorry again for too many questions , I am just really trying to learn. |

There have also been studies done that prove the 0.05% is just as effective as the 0.1%. |
