TCA peel 12%

So i added TCA peel on my face only a small part and i felt tingling and saw frosting i washed it off with water and soap and then i added moisturizer and i was done but i noticed my skin still had a white part to it like frosting and im african american is it working or did i do something wrong?

I've done a couple of 12.5% TCA peels and I've seen the whitish skin lingering after washing everything off. For me, (I'm fair) it goes away a couple hours after the peel. I find the areas that turned white will peel the most and have the best result. Those areas will feel really tight over the next few days until they peel (not painful, just annoying).

If you have any emu oil use it after your peels, as it is very healing & moisturizing. The frosting with TCA is normal & yes those are the areas that will peel the best. You might look like a lizard for a few days, but it will be worth it. Also remember to keep it very moisturized at all times while it is peeling & when it starts to peel do not for any reason pick at it or peel anything off, let it all happen naturally. Picking at it or peeling off the peeled part, (like a sunburn you want to peel off) can cause scaring on some people. Let us know how it turns out in a few days. I have done lactic acid 50%, glycolic acid 30, 50 & 60% with no extreme peeling to date. (I am a big chicken LOL). I have my 12% TCA ready & plan to do a 1 layer on Dec 26th since I get the week off & give me a few days to frost & peel good.

How did you like the end result? Does a 12 % help with discoloration, hyperpigmentation?

I just did an 18% TCA peel. I got a light frosting throughout but now I wish I did another layer so I could get a deeper peel. The deeper ones tend to peel faster, even though you look worse for a few days.

I'm hoping this helps with my marks from acne. I still have active cystic acne on the underside of my jaw and chin. It's annoying.

I just ordered a TCA from Makeup Artist's Choice, this is my first TCA order but I did order a 40% glycolic and a 5% salicylic from them before. I thought they were great products and the company seems very reputable. If you sign up for their emails they have 20% off sales fairly often.

I've used the 8% and 12.5% TCA. The 8% only caused a little flaking on me, I had a better result with the 12.5% - but everyone is different. Be sure to do a patch test.

ShastaGirl, what results have you seen with the 12.5% TCA?

Hi Rileygirl - I did a series of 4 TCA peels (at home) about 3-4 weeks apart. The first was 8%, the other three were 12.5%. I also did three 40% glycolics before the TCAs.

I've seen some improvement in texture and skin tone from them. My pores are smaller, some red spots and pigmentation are lighter. I didn't really see much wrinkle reduction (I keep hoping something will work on those dreaded NLs...may have to go with fillers). The peels I did were 1-2 layers. I think to see more substantial wrinkle changes you have to use more layers and/or higher TCA percentages - but then you have much more downtime for healing.

I've backed off from doing peels the last few months - with nightly retin-a, vitamin c serum, and starting dermarolling, I felt like the peels would be too much for my skin.

Thank you, Shastagirl. I was hoping to hear you had more results with wrinkles with the TCA! I am thinking that multiple peels with the lower strength would yield close to the results of a deeper peel, just a lot more time is needed?

Yes, I was hoping the same thing - that multiple peels at lower percentages would have a cumulative effect. That's what I'd heard as well. I think you really need to get into 15-20% TCA with 2-3 layers for it to really do much with wrinkles. Then you're looking at 3-5 days downtime with the stylish "snakeskin look".

If you're really up for some reading on TCA there are literally hundreds of reviews posted on http://makeupalley.com/. Search for "MUAC TCA". You'll see some for the higher percentages as well.

When doing the TCA or glycolic peels, are you guys "prepping" your skin by using retin a? If so, what is the time frame: days, weeks, etc. prior to the actual peel? Thanks!

Also, this may sound crazy, but has anyone attempted a peel for the under eye area? This area is the worst in terms of wrinkles for me!

Kims, I know it is recommended by Platinum Skin Care for the glycolic peels to stop Retin A 3 days prior to use. Not sure if that would be the same for TCA or not. I apply all my peels under my eyes (just not too close to the lower lid). Platinum skin says to keep it 1/4 of an inch away from eyes. (Sorry, the platinum directions are all I have close, but I would assume MUAC would be the same or very similar.)

I did a TCA peel on my hands several months ago. No improvement that I could see -- just a lot of redness and irritation! My hands are also in a sad state of despair...

I have only done 1 so far, kims, so no improvement yet. I'll keep you posted. I am doing another one this Friday. I know Shastagirl said she did a series of 4, but my thinking is if we are going to use the lower percent to avoid the down time, then we would need to do a lot more than that. I frosted on the 2nd layer of the TCA peel, and I did peel, but it was not a huge amount, which leads me to believe I will need many more. I know there was a lady on here (Sharky) who got rid of her wrinkles doing what she called a peel and heal and I thought she said it took about 1 year of doing that if I remember right.

When I did the glycolic and TCAs peels, I was using retin-a regularly and had been for at least a month prior to the first peel. I stopped the retin-a about 2 days before the peel and restarted it again 2 days after. I'd read (can't recall where) that starting retin-a after the peel can help accelerate the peeling and healing. I had no problems with this routine, but my skin is pretty tough. I wouldn't do a peel if I had any retin-a irritation - that may be why they suggest stopping it a few days prior to the peel.

I used only the 8% around my eyes and only one layer. My undereye skin is fairly thin and I didn't want to make it worse.

I'll have to look up sharky's posts on the peel and heal. If my dermaroller adventure doesn't yield results after a few months, I may go back to the peels.

That is what I did for the GA peels. To be honest, with the TCA peel, I am using RA up until that night of the peel, and then I also plan to start back up quickly, as I read the same thing somewhere that RA will accelerate the peeling!!

Good luck with your dermarolling, Shastagirl. Did nothing for the wrinkles I am working on, but hopefully you will have great luck with it!

I've got some 50% glycolic acid and I may try this (very carefully) in the under eye area.

Did either of you use any type of oil immediately after the peel or will this negate its effects?

I think after the GA peel, you can do it with emu oil. You probably will not "peel" with the GA (or at least I never did). It has been a while since I used the GA, but I don't remember anything (other than acids, harsh things, etc), being off limits for your face with that type of peel. Some use the CP's after the peel either that night or the next to "heal" the skin.

ETA: Keep me posted on your peels!

I'll keep you posted, Rileygirl! I'm too afraid to do an "overall" peel, but I think I'll try it in the under eye area. Just to be clear, ga is gentler than TCA, correct?

I've got emu oil on hand and cp's. We'll see what happens! With my tough-as-nails skin, one peel probably won't make much difference.

GA doesn't penetrate as deeply as the TCA but GA does have a tendency to "dive" on damaged skin so if you have any areas of irritation or broken skin cover it with some Aquaphor or a similiar ointment. My TCA from MUAC choice hasn't gotten here yet, I am honestly a little scared of TCA but I've done glycolics up to a
%70 with no ill effects. Honestly, salicylic peels work better for me as I am oily and acne prone.

Yes, averygsmom is right. GA is not as "strong" as TCA. I think the GA feels like it burns for a longer time on the face than the TCA. I was scared of the TCA, too, but after the 1st time I am feeling braver! What scared me to death was the look of the frost. I had never seen that before, and when the white area remained after a wiped my face off, I got really scared that I had done something wrong!
