I'm asking this question because the blue light used to set bonding on teeth is obviously potent - the patient has to wear tinted glasses to protect their eyes from the damage the rays might cause whilst a tinted sheet of plastic is used above the patient's face to protect the dentist and their assistant. But what about the skin around the patient's mouth?
Does anyone know if the rays furtively age the skin around the mouth in the same way that UVA rays do? The last time the blue light was used the skin above my lips did feel a bit burnt although the work hadn't been near that area.
I'm becoming conscious of some smoker lines above my upper lip despite never having been a smoker and I wonder what's caused them - my 70yr old mother has next to none. |

"Health hazards associated with curing light in the dental clinic"

This sentence concerns me 'Furthermore, phototoxic and photoallergic reactions originating from absorbed radiation in endogenous or exogenous substances accumulated in the operators eyes and skin (hands) as well as the patients oral mucosa must also be taken into consideration.'
Do you close your eyes when they use the curing light? I know that they usually give the patient glasses to help protect the eyes but they often slip backwards and usually end up on my forehead rather than over my eyes! |
