Is there a cream that can lighten thin under eye skin?

Hi, I'm a guy who's struggling with very dark under eye skin caused by the skin thinning. Not from allergy, lack of rest etc. From thin skin.

The only things which make any improvement on this is changing my diet. Even then the change is very marginal. From very dark grey circles to dark grey circles!

What I'm wondering is if there's a cream or product out there that you can apply to your under eye skin so the skin will absorb it and lighten? Either by holding white pigment or by the cream shrinking the arteries which cause the darkness?

I've heard that hemorrhoid cream was something that worked for people. Is this true and if not, is there anything similar to this that could work?

I have seen this a LOT with too much salt in the diet and iron deficiency. I know that we can all have dark circles from lack of rest, yet in my own life I only ever get circles from way too much salt, my husband too and both of us have thin skin.

You can get a product that is designed for puffy and dark under eye circles and gently massage the area moving in circles around your eyes. This will help increase the micro circulation, which will eventually help reduce the darkness.

I personally use a good concealer, so Jane Iredale is pretty good, Circle Delete!

The problem with my under eye circles is largely in the corner of my eye socket going down either side of the top of the bridge of my nose. I don't know whether that is indicative of anything. I wish I knew...

Thanks for the advice regarding the massaging product.

I don't think I want to go down the makeup route being a man. I'd much prefer something that the skin would absorb, if something like that could help....

I think what you are referring to is the vein that is under your skin. If you have thin and fair skin, this can be very common. I have the same thing, the vein is very obvious, yet concealer looks 100% natural and yes tons of men use cosmetics, tinted moisturizers and concealer. Similar to most women, good makeup is done in a way that looks 100% natural!

I've struggled with dark circles all my life. Not just dark circles but also visible veins, including one very prominent one going from under my eye to the temple. I've tried almost every imaginable eye cream that targeted dark circles. Some worked better than others but in the end the effect is limited if the darkness is due to thin skin and capillaries showing through. As you said, there are generally only two options: constrict the vessels or plump up the skin (in simple terms, increase the layer between the vein and the skin). I ended up going to see a dermatologist and she suggested that the veins were the biggest problem and they were making the whole area appear dark. I asked her what creams she recommends - the answer was none. Her view was that the best solution (for me) was to use laser to close off the broken capillaries and visible veins. One session that lasted maybe 10 minutes and I haven't looked back (that was 2 years ago). My whole eye area is much lighter and I barely use concealer on a daily basis. I do still have bad dark circles when I don't sleep well, but then everyone gets those.

I have to stress here that laser worked for me but that does not mean it's a good solution for you. From what I understand from my derm, is only a certain distance to the actual eye that the laser can be applied safely so it's important to have someone qualified do this.

I am wondering if it was the vein that runs beside the eye, along the inside of the bridge of the nose? Due to my Irish genetics (is my best guess) I have this vein which is quite blue, as I mentioned above and did not know laser could take care of the problem? I knew about having capillaries reduced via laser, yet not prominent veins. I am curious as if this is possible I would certainly consider having something done, as the concealer only works so well!

Hi Feliz,

I'm Eastern European so super pale, translucent skin and had lots of visible veins but the large one ran from the bottom outer corner of my eye to the temple so I cannot comment on inside of the bridge of the nose. The derm said they can treat any vein that they can see is not essential as long as it sits over (or they can pull the skin down over) a bony part of your face. They are quite careful not to get too close to the eye with the laser.

Interesting! i will have to check this out, yet when I go for an appointment with a skin specialist where I live. I am going to get a consultation to see what I need done to my to help improve old scarring etc. Thanks for letting me know about this procedure, although if its more surgical, I am not so sure I am into having something like that done.

Feliz - I was quite nervous about laser on my face (especially around the eye area) but I've had IPL done before for hair removal and I was told it was going to be similar to that (and it was similar, just less painful).

Thank you for letting me know, as I am considering having a few things done to my skin. Where I live, there is a really good skin clinic run by doctors that specialize in such procedures!
