I need some help here with skin care. I am 61 (in two weeks actually) and I have some brown spots, etc. Entirely too much sun when I was young. I use Astara Daily Refining Scrub AM (but considering returning to Dr H cleanser); Vivier 20 and Vivier moisturizer w/sunscreen. I am not very happy with Vivier and will not reorder after product is finished. In the evening I cleanse with Jurlique cleanser; Vivier 20 and Astara Renewal Intense Moisturizer. Should I be using toner before the Vivier 20? For toner I use Dr H. I am considering using Skinceuticals C&E in AM. Would this help with brown spots and melasma? I also use Pevonia peeling enzymo-spherides peeling; astara maks; Dr H rejuvenating mask. I guess my real question is what to do with those pesky brown/age spots and melasma? Wrinkles not a problem at all. Thank you. |

The Skinceuticals C, E, Ferulic will definitely help fade some of the brown spots, but I think you will need to add Retin A, and possibly a hydroquinone if you are dealing with melasma. Are you using a good sunscreen? As all of your effort will be wasted if you are not protecting your skin from the sun now. |

Rileygirl is spot-on. A good C serum, Retin A, and hydroquinone are the gold standard for hyperpigmentation--always with a high powered sunscreen. It will take awhile, but you will see results. In the meantime, have you considered an aggressive peel? The kind you get from a professional? That might jump-start your spot fading. |
