Here's a link to the product in question.http://www.smashbox.com/LIMITLESS-LASH-MASCARA
Noteworthy that it's NOT sold at Sephora....possibly too many complaints?
This tube of mascara doubles up as both a mascara on one end and remover on the other. It's ALLEGEDLY waterproof and smudgeproof. It's neither. The remover doesn't really do a very good job of removing the product either... strike three on all counts. Although I'm not overly crazy about waterproof mascara, I DO expect it to stay in place when applied and be easily removed at the end of the day.False advertising on all counts.
I'm truly thankful to the makeup gods that I didn't pay full price for this.... Picked up a pack of 2 tubes at Nordstrom's Rack for $15.00 ... I thought I was getting a good deal.
The pros: Inky black, just like I like. No clumping, another bonus. It's easy to apply a couple of layers to make your lashes appear thicker, longer, and blacker than natural.
The cons outweigh the pros, I'm afraid... Smudges within a couple hours --- can't blame this on hot temps because it's winter. The ONLY way to prevent smudging is to apply a coat of silk powder right underneath my eyes before applying. For the first 30 minutes, I look rather odd but once the silk powder absorbs all is well. This is the ONLY way I can wear this mascara. Without the silk powder it's not too pretty.
It's NOT waterproof. Get stuck in the rain without an umbrella and you'll resemble the mascara-inspired teary stains of soap opera... Not pretty. Oh, yeah... Did I mention that I nearly ruined one of my white sweaters because of this?
The remover on the other end doesn't REALLY remove the mascara. The best use I've found for this is to groom my eyebrows.
Difficult to wash off. I use jojoba oil around eyes and on face to dissolve the makeup, rinse with tepid water, then cleanse. Even after this, evidence of mascara is still apparent... How can something that isn't smudgeproof or waterproof be so persistent EXACTLY when I don't want it to be? Step 3 in cleansing... dot meadowfoam oil around my eyes, on lashes, then gently swipe off with cotton ball. I suppose the ONE benefit to this multi-step removal process will be from the meadowfoam oil. Hehe....
I won't repurchase this. I still have one tube left after I finish this one. The only reason I'm still trying to use it up is because I don't want to waste $$.
Conclusion: If you like black, thick and longer lashes that aren't all out of proportion and don't mind taking the extra steps required for application AND removal AND don't expect either waterproof or smudgeproof mascara, then this may be a good fit for you.
If you have higher expectation from a brand that's supposed to be a notch above drugstore mascara, I wouldn't recommend it. |

i'm searching high and low for a great waterproof mascara that will not smudge. right now, i don't even care if it never comes off. i'm having major problems with my mascara giving me fake eye bags.
if you find great one, let us all know.
if you find a fabulous one, yell it out! |

You're welcome, llina... Possibly the...BEST.... mascara I've ever tried.... Well, there's two of them. Dr. Hauschka both original and volumizing. Lovely smell, goes on smooth, enhances the natural look (don't expect over the top lashes with this brand) but it does take some time to dry between coats and if you sneeze within 5 minutes of application you'll have the post-op look. Once it dries, it stays put and is easy to remove. It does NOT hold up to extreme heat, however.
Another great mascara is by Guerlein. I don't know exactly what it's called, but it comes in a lovely gold tube. Coats each lash without clumping, doesn't smudge, holds up in heat, sad movies and the rain. Comes off easily as well. I've found these gems at TJMaxx for only $10USD... until recently, which is why I tried the Smashbox. |

I gotta say... for a product named Limitless Mascara, it sure does have a lot of limitations. |

Hi llina, the only reason I was able to obtain Guerlain mascara for so little is because TJMaxx offers great deals on department store clothing, accessories, cosmetics... closeouts. I checked the selection of Gueirlain mascara on various websites and can't see the mascara I loved so much... it may be discontinued. Too bad, it's a stellar mascara. |
