Girls,

Does it make sense to have a Glycolic peel or Silkpeel done in a med spa or is it a waste of money? Confused

They said the highest possible my skin will tolerate. And this will be determined by the medical esthetitican at the beginning of the procedure. This is at the dermatoligist's office and they say that only doctors are allowed to use this high percentage glycolic peels. Cost of about $140

The other one is a Silkpeel procedure that offers exfolitaion and penetration of topicals for $285 per procedure.

I dont know if it is all worth it Confused

I had a few done about 2 years ago and felt it was a complete waste of $$$. At the time I was doing regular microdermabrasions and was told that an alternating combination of glycolic peels and micro derm would give optimum results -I was so disappointed in the peels that I had them refund the remaining money I had spent on the GP series and apply it over to the Microdermabrasion sessions.

Some people have very good results - was not one of them. I get just as good of a result at home with NCN pumpkin peel for a fraction of the cost.

I'm thinking in the same direction Dancing

But then I dont know if it pays to have any non-invasive procedures done in these spas... Or all of them just a waste??

I would never pay to get a glycolic peel done.
I do them at home.

I have had the glycolic peels at a doctors office. Series of 6 that started at 30% and went up to I think 70%. No change in my skin. I went to a med spa a few years ago for the Vitalize Peel (which they would not do on me) and ended up with another glycolic peel. Total waste of money. You can do those safely at home.

I haven't had the silk peel, so I am not sure if that would be worth the money or not.

I've used the 65% Lactic Acid Peel from makeupartistschoice.com They also sell TCA and Glycolic Peels. They're very easy to do, cheap and effective.

I once spent $600.00 on a Green Peel at a day spa and that was a complete waste of money - did absolutely nothing.

I had a look at the Silk Peel, sounds like it's just a microdermabrasion treatment with some fancy kind of penetration technique. You might like to look into getting a Timepeel home microdermabrasion machine - I think it's the greatest thing of all. I've just this minute done one on myself and couldn't believe the crap that came off my face!

I've tried the Timepeel and it did nothing for me Sad In fact, I didn't like the feeling it gave, so I now exfoliate with Galvanic.

I'm breaking my head over where to spend my money with maximum results Rolling Eyes
Apparently, not in the doctor's office!

RussianSunshine,
What issues are you looking to address?? This might be helpful information in terms of what products or procedures any of us could suggest for you? I think there's a lot of things that can be done successfully at home (like glycolic peels) while other things are best left to professionals.

I'm surprised you didn't like the Timepeel, I find it quite aggressive whereas Galvanic just feels like rubbing the back of a spoon over the face! I definitely wouldn't go for the Silkpeel then, because it uses the same diamond head treatment as the Timepeel.

I'd suggest trying a home peel first, they're so cheap - and then, if you're dissatisfied with that, try something from the medspa.

I've never done a peel before. I got a sample of NCN 30% pumpkin peel and would like to try it, but I'm afraid of having a bad reaction. I will test an area first, but my tendancy will be to take it off too early, because I'm afraid to do damage. Any advice for a newby? Also, is there a peel recommendation for eye area or is that a no no. I have very thin skin there (upper and lower) - trying to remodel it. Thanks, Lynn
