Be careful with benzoyl peroxide.

I suspect that it's the reason for my enlarged pores.

When I was in middle school, I had horrible acne. I used to put a dab of it all over my face, as I saw the models in the commercials do.

I especially concentrated on my forehead and cheeks, since those areas were the oilest and most acne-prone during that time.

Now, I have really large pores and minor sagging in that area. I highly suspect that BP caused it.

I always advise EDS members to use BP with caution. In my opinion, it's very serious stuff.

Pore size is genetic, it doesn't change. They can only *appear* to get bigger or smaller, depending on clogging and whatnot.

I agree BP is strong stuff, it works for most people, but if it's not working for you it's time to move on to something else.

I always thought that a poor skin routine can increase pore size.

Pores can become filled with gunk, thereby making them look bigger.

I used my wife's 10% for only a few days with a clairsonic, now my face is ruined. It's red, dry, irratated, porous, even 6 months later. I had good skin in April, In October, I have horrible skin. I am so desperate for answers.

Did you use the Clarisonic with a 10% BP spot treatment?

yes, I ran out of my purpose and just used her panoxyl 10% foaming wash. At that time i paid no attention to what it even was. I never moisturized my face before, so i didnt do it after the panoxyl. I hate my life right now.

Hi topman, is it possible that your issue with you skin changing could be health/diet or stress related that just happened to coincide with using your wife's cleanser? I don't think using a cleanser, no matter how bad, could change you skin for the worse even 6 months after use. Maybe try something gentle like CeraVe cleanser and lotion to try to rebuild your acid mantle of your skin.

At the time when my face changed, I was running 3x a week, eating very well, weight lifting 3 x a week. physically I felt better than I have in years. I do take supplements (quite a few). I started cod liver oil supplements at that time, but have since discontinued. I did get a microderm done not long after discovering what happened (recommended by my derm). My skin tingles, turns red when I moisturize, And feels raw all the time.

I have to say I hate BP I have very tough skin but it gets very upset if I put even the smallest amounts of BP anywhere near it. Finally my GP told me I was allergic and they quite a lot of people were. If it really burns your skin causes swelling etc then your probabaly sensitive to it, I was finally give a script for Retin A which is much better for long term use.

I believe there have been some studies suggesting that BP is harmful to the skin used over long periods. Tea tree oil is apparently just as effective against the bacteria that causes acne so now I just use that directly on break outs and it does help without all the irritation.

Salicylic acid is also good and, possibly, gentler as well.

Seconded, salicylic acid is the best for unplugging the clogged pores that turn into break outs.

The funny thing is I never really had acne. I had non-oily smooth skin. As a man, I never worried about my skin until now. Do you think this is reversible?

I think it should be ok just read the recent threads people who have over done things with Retin A and follow a similer protcol, no harsh products at all just gentle cleansing and apply moisturising creams that will help rebuild the skins barrier and reduce inflammation.

Also, start with a low concentration/less frequent application and slowly work your way up.

Topman, I would stay away from any acid/exfoliant until your skin barrier has a chance to heal.
