After years and years of suffering from hormonal acne - not too bad but bad enough that I would pick and have red marks on my chin and jaw, I think I've finally discovered the solution.....after a visit to my Doctor, I asked about changing my contraceptive pill and he mentioned there was one that helped clear your skin. Anyway, I was a bit sceptical - after all, I had been using creams and lotions for the past 20 years and had not had any luck in changing my skin.
But after just 2 weeks of taking Yasmin, my skin is looking and feeling fabulous. Its so much smoother and softer too so I am feeling like a million bucks at the moment and all because of one teeny tiny pill (that mind you also prevents getting pregnant!).
I've booked myself in for a Sothys results facial in a couple of weeks so that my beautician can see what my skin is really like at the moment and recommend some products. So, I'll be back here at EDS purchasing more.
Just thought I would shed some hope with anyone who suffers from hormonal acne and could possible swap their oral contraceptive pill. I'd love to hear from anyone else's experiences with this too. |

I was put on many different pills, one after another about ten years ago, because my periods were so painful. The doctor thought it might help. Not only did it not help, I got a lot of breakouts and I swelled up from water retention. All of them did that to me. Eventually I gave up. I still get terrible break outs before my period though. I just discovered that if you start taking zinc about five days before you start, the break out is much reduced. Sometimes I only get one pimple. I never want to go back on the pill, though. |

Thats great. Many people have great results with yasmin or yaz.
Actually most any BCP can help with hormonal acne as well as cause it. Its jut a matter of finding the right one that works for you.
Dont forget to have your potassium levels checked after a few months of use. |

My skin became clear after I stopped eating milk products and no more painful periods since I started using Full Spectrum Lights at home. |

Hey Nelly,
I'm really glad your skin had cleared up! I'm just the opposite as you. I've taken the generic version of Ortho-Cept for years. Then I went to see a new doctor and she told me to try Yaz. Yaz my face break out so bad! I switched back to my generic Ortho-Cept without any breakouts. Of course the reason for my breakouts was because Yaz contains a different Hormone than ortho-cept. |

I think that Yasmin is the pill for me because I was on Microgynon for about 10 years which is a low dosage pill to try and minimise side effects like weight gain, breakouts etc. I then had a baby and while I was off the pill, my skin was really great then after I had Charlie, I went back on Microgynon (not knowing any different) and then ever since my Dr put me on Yasmin, I have had great skin so I guess it looks like I'm staying on this one until it changes. |

I've been Orthocyclen for 6 years; Yasmin would be pill of choice if I ever switched. |

I'm really sensitive to medications. Sometimes you have to try try again until you find one that works for you. I've read many people take birth control pills to help with acne. I'm looking to get off the pill because I have been on it for so long. I'm just wondering what is going to happen to my skin. |

I tried the Yasmin pill, and it just gave me the longest lasting period ever! thought I was going to bleed to death! I also had really bad stomach pains so I had to come off it. As they all contain slightly different ingredients it's trial and error to find the right one. I also tried the implant and had the same symtoms. |

Did the Yasmin help your skin in other ways? Like make it less prone to lines? I have heard that pills like Yasmine can change the skin so that it is smoother and softer. |

In the last few days, I've also started using Dermalogica Microfoliant each night and also Sothys Noctuelle Night Cream with Vitamin C. My skin is absolutely glowing and is so soft and hydrated - it has never ever looked this good. The only reason I have just started these products is that I ordered them from this site early last week and they arrived on Monday. So, while I don't think Yasmin has made my skin softer, the combination of it with these products is certainly helping. |

I've tried Diane-35 for 2.5 years and it helped clear up my acne and lessen body hair but not much effect on smoothing my skin as I've heard other people claim. |

When I was on yasmin my skin was much drier. I suspect because drospirenone has slight diuretic effect. |

Just an update on my skin. Its finally broken out on my chin and I think its because I'm at the end of the first pack (so my period is due any day). Other than 3 spots on my chin, my skin is still soft and smooth. I'll let you all know what happens. |

I always break out before my period. I usually have one spot on my forehead. So I wouldn't worry. I'm glad your happy with your skin! |

BCP's can be very hit or miss. I'm back on my Diane 35 and besides a slight initial break out I feel like there has been a general smoothing of my skin texture. It's a pretty sweet side effect of a necessary precaution.
I had acne primarily on my chin as well and man it was a b*%ch at the time. Hormones are tricky things. They can make us batty and spotty if they are out of whack. I actually feel calmer with the extra estrogen in my system.
One odd thing I've noticed. I get hit on more! Maybe dudes pick up on the estrogen. My boyfriend said to me "You are cuter than ever before. It's something I'm not sure what..." Have you noticed this haha? |
