how many times should i take it?
i'm 25 and have some serious wrinkles on my forehead, but plan on using it all over my face.
except undereye, because my skin there for some reason is sooo thin.
can i use cetaphil moisturizer with it?
when should i start seeing results?
what if i don't get any shedding/peeling?

Isn't Retin-A only available through prescription and shouldn't you have been taught how to apply it?
That aside, it can be used daily at night (since the sun will aggravate skin treated with Retin-A) and apply only a very thin layer. Usually it will take you 2 months to see any noticeable results and applying more wouldn't get you faster results.
I highly suggest going to the manufacturer's website to view the patient information leaflet in English. There are quite a few precautions you should be aware of before you apply Retin-A to your skin. |

anyone guys?
i read the instructions online, very basic, read all that here already.
when should i expect peeling? I have used 0.5 cream only twice so much. I just shaved my face (dry) and a few hours later i noticed many tiny bumps on my face. that was 3 days ago, but today i noticed that it was actually peeling so maybe its from the retin a. like i have to exfoliate now to get rid of the dead skin. |

I wanted to add that you must use only at night. This is suggested for non-Rx items also such as OTC Retinol. Be sure to apply a good sunscreen every morning. Check the sunscreen threads for more information on sunscreens. |

You should be using Retin A once a day before bedtime every day. It only takes a pea size amount to cover your whole face. You can apply moisturizer on top of Retin A after waiting about 30 minutes. If you don't peel, it does not mean that the RA is not working. Some people do not every have any side effects from RA. It will take at least 6 months to start seeing the results from Retin A with the best results seen of daily use of RA for 1 year. Make sure you are wearing a very good sunscreen every single day. HTH! |

Hello,
I have been using Retin A .05% nightly (for about a year) followed by CeRave PM moisturizer a while later. Occasionally I may have some slight peeling but nothing that's bothersome. I have been thinking of adding a glycolic cream (i.e. Alpha Hydrox, etc.) to my routine to help with exfoliation. I have typical skin issues of mature skin (fine wrinkles, discoloration, blackheads on nose area, large pores - did I miss something? ).
Anyone have thoughts on this or tried it before?
Thank you in advance! |

i think .5 would be too strong to start. You should start with .025% strength. |

It's very common to use an AHA with the RA. I would say to try them an opposite ends of the day, though, and start slow with the AHA. |

If you wanted to incorporate an AHA, I would use an AHA toner such as Aqua Glycolic after washing your face in the evening, and after it dries apply the retin a. The ph of retin a and the toner are both close to 3.5.
I wouldn't use AHA's or retin a in the morning, the AHA will make your skin sun sensitive, and retin a (tretinoin) is inactivated by sunlight or indoor flourescent lights. So both should be used at night. |

I wouldn't use RA in the morning either. However, a low percent AHA is perfectly fine used in the morning provided he/she is using a good quality sunscreen. |

Thank you everyone for your thoughts and expertise. I will give it a try - perhaps switching between the two every other night or a low strength glycolic cream in the morning. |

wow, so many responses.
thank you guys.
i have used it only 3 times so far, and my skin is peeling. only when i look very very close in the mirror. the patches where the skin is gone, it looks more shiny. so i'm happy that something is working. my pharmacy for some reason only had the .5 cream and gel. i got the cream.
i only use it 2 times a week. fridays and mondays. when can i start using it every other day? by the way, all medicine here where i am is otc. lol. don't know why that is. which is not always good.
im using cetaphil moisturizer which i'm loving. |

People are obsessed with the peeling, and I have been there and done that. With Retin A, just because your not peeling doesn't mean its not working. I know you read about Retin A online and get the impression that everyone peels with it, but seriously if you do your research your discover there is no real big pattern. Not everyone peels at exactly the same time, or in the same places. It depends really on where your starting from and the amount of damage you got already. At only 25, your young enough to have not gotten as much as say someone in their 50's. With Retin A, I remember reading somewhere that its best to work up to using it every other night. 0.5% is a bit strong for some people, as someone's pointed out to you. With the moisturiser, I wouldn't apply anything on top of it for half an hour after applying as it inteferes with the absorption. |

What allowed me to use retin-A daily is oil. I was using retin-A every other night. I tried so many moisturizers and none helped with the peeling. My skin looked even more wrinkled than before retin-a. After reading the succes some ladies on this forum have with oils, I decided to give it a try and glad I did. Currently, I am applying rosehip oil about 20-30 min after retin-A. I have been using retin-A 0.04% every night for a couple of months, with some minor peeling.
Rileygirl: you mention using AHA in the morning. Can it be used with vitamin C serum? |

Luciana, I personally think it is ok. There are products that have both C and AHA in it (like the new Murad product). Some peoples skin may not be able to take that combo (just like some won't be able to take the RA/AHA combo) and it may cause irritation or dryness. HTH! |
