http://www.dermogenesis.com/clinical/clin_art.php?aid=27

in this article above, read the very last paragraph where he stipulates not to do this on Type IV skin.

here it is to quote:

Contraindications
Not for type IV, V and VI skin where pigmentation of the scars may occur

Anyone know if he has changed his mind about this? if it is now safe to dermaroll type IV, V and VI skin??

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fitzpatrick_scale

The Fitzpatrick Scale:

* Type I (scores 0-7) White; very fair; red or blond hair; blue eyes; freckles

Always burns, never tans

* Type II (scores 8-16) White; fair; red or blond hair; blue, hazel or green eyes

Usually burns, tans with difficulty

* Type III (scores 17-25) Cream white; fair with any eye or hair color; very common

Sometimes mild burn, gradually tans

* Type IV (scores 25-30) Dark Brown; typical Mediterranean Caucasian skin

Rarely burns, tans with ease

* Type V (scores over 30) Dark brown; Middle Eastern skin types

Very rarely burns, tans very easily

* Type VI Black

Never burns, tans very easily

(Disclaimer - some people do not like wikipedia as a source for information, but a search around the internet will give you the same information. I used the first source that popped up.)

You see the same warnings about acid peels -- sometimes those cause hyper or hypopigmentation. It seems to happen more often with darker skin. I am a Type IV (I assume) never had any problems with anything, but maybe you want to try a test patch in an inconspicuous place...inside of the arm?

Oh yes, I dermaroll (sorry, I failed to mention that!) I use a 1 mm about once a week, and .5 whenever I feel like it. My skin in general is pretty nonreactive, but all in all the dermarolling has been good for it. Or maybe it's the CPs I roll in.

what r u using the dermarolling for?

i was thinking that maybe me doing it every week, may disrupt new collagen growth?

and yes, I will also be using a 0.8mm dermastamp

your thoughts would be appreciated! Smile

thank you
