Hello gentlepeople, I'd like to keep a diary to follow up my new skin care regime.
I don't know if I'm going to succeed or fail. Not sure either if I'll be defeated easily especially after flunking so many new regime attempts... I hope this diary will keep my faith to be courageous to give at least a "full-length" try for once before surrendering myself.
Your comments, advice, help and support will be very much appreciated and valued.

Chapter 1
mood:
I have very oily skin since my teenage and am still so very oily in my mid thirties now
Since the age of 20, I have followed religiously the cleanse-tone-moisturize daily routine and exfoliation-mask weekly routine. Skin care brands tried include Yonka, Sothys, Dr. Hauschka, to name just a few. However, my skin stays as oily as it has always been. On top of it, it is very sensitive with broken capillaries (have it since I was a child and getting more now) and some photo-damaged brown spots (only start wearing sunscreen 2 years ago ).
Recently, I have decided to give a shot to another new skin care regime. I'd like to do the following:
AM
- Cleanse with a mild pH balanced cleanser (currently Yonka gel cleanser; may use something else once finished, if needed)
- Tone with rose water
- Vitamin C serum (thinking of DIY but waiting for ingredients to arrive; right now just jojoba oil)
- Sunscreen (currently Avene SPF50+ emulsion)
PM
- Cleanse (same as AM)
- Tone (same as AM)
- Retinoid (will incorporate this one later in fall)
alternating with
- Moisturizing with jojoba oil mixed in a tiny bit of HA serum
Among these steps, cleanser, toner and sunscreen are three items that I have been using since 2 years. For the rest, I'm incorporating them one by one in order to observe my skin reaction.
So, the first item incorporated was jojoba oil about 1 week ago. I applied it on my face which is still damp after cleansing and toning. I was amazed. My skin was no more oily yet well hydrated! Goodbye morning wake-up grease, sayonara 4 o'clock face oil blotting! I couldn't believe that I was so reluctant before to use oil on my oily face!
Then 2 days later, I incorporated HA serum. It is a DIY version with 1% HA, 99% water, kept in an airless pump container in fridge. I found that jojoba oil wasn't really spreading easily on my face if applied alone even on damp face. Read somewhere about the HA serum trick. So I mixed a micro dot of HA serum with 2-3 drops of jojoba oil, then applied on my face. Wow, I really loved the texture it gave to my face and it helped jojoba oil to be spreaded so easily and evenly on my face. I enjoyed this for about 3 days until I noticed some dehydration on my lower cheeks with some dehydration lines!
Unwillingly, I just stopped using HA serum yesterday. I only applied jojoba oil in AM and Yonka cream 28 for dehydrated skin in PM. I also used a moisturizing mask yesterday hoping to heal the dehydration.
I'm really confused. What could have I done wrong? I really want this to work for me. I'm aware of how HA serum functions. But I did take the precaution not to misuse it (or have I done something wrong?). Now, I am confused if I should use jojoba oil or not? |

Possibly using just the HA and Jojoba without any moisturizer containing water the HA will pull water from your skin causing the dehydration. I always use a moisturizer over any HA serum. You might try applying to a damp face as another option. |

Hi Dark Moon,
Thank you for your warm welcome
I forgot to mention that my skin does get dehydrated quite easily but not very often. With the HA jojoba combo applied on a damp face, I experience much MORE noticeable dehydration with flaky dry skin and extra dehydration lines
I believe that your suggestion of using a water-based moisturizer together with HA serum will work fine for those in need of additional hydration boost. Since I have oily skin, I don't feel the need of using HA serum if I already use a water-based moisturizer. In fact, it is what I am doing now to repair my current dehydration by using Yonka cream 28 (seems to do a pretty good job).
To be honest, I was hoping by using DIY HA serum I can drop one more item from my routine to save more money... well, too bad it doesn't work for me |

Hi sister sweets,
Thanks
I live in France. I speak average English when my brain functions in its normal mode. If I get into some twilight zone (that happens quite regularly), I may speak some mixed salad type of English... |

After spending some time to read more threads, I've found a very useful thread on HA serum dehydration issue in an older thread. I can't include the link because I guess I am new in the forum.
Just search up member TheresaL and Has anyone experienced dryness/dehydration from HA?, you will find this very informative and useful thread! |
