Hi, all!
I just came back from the hospital as earlier today, as I was outside earlier this afternoon and it was pretty hot here.
Anyways, I was waiting for the bus and fainted at the bus stop and fell onmy face and scrapedmy nose and chin raw (and bloody too).
Also chipped 2 teeth and bruised the inside of my mouth very badly.
I can't eat and only was able to eat some maple taffy (this is like thick maple syrup you eat with a spoon..melts in your mouth).
Anyway,
the hospital did not do anything for my skin.
I'm surprized they did not give me antibiotics or ointment for my face.
Thankfully I did not break anything, even though my lip and chin look horrible.
My question is what should I be using on my skin?
I am looking for a gentle cleanser.
I have Cetaphil here, butnot sure if thatis good to use. I also have Bioderma micellar cleansing water for sensitive skin.
I also have a sample of Mario Badescu seaweed cleanserand found that was good for sensitive skin, but have not tried it since scaping my face.
Secondly,
what other products can you reccomend for healing skin on the face that is for injured skin that is also extremely sensitive.
Usually I was using products for blemishes and oil free moisturizers but haveto stop using all my skincare and masks untilmy skin recovers.
Also, what makeup to use?
I just received a sample of a mineral makeup that was bismuth freesoam assuming thatmight be ok?
I have other mineral makeup here, but find the drugstore one like Physicians formula, maybeline to be very lousy and donot cover well.
Any advice and suggestions are welcome! |

Wow...I am so sorry that you are having to deal with this!
I went through something similar many years ago...I swallowed my Diet Coke wrong, an air bubble put pressure on my heart, it stopped beating and I passed out and fell on the floor at work. But then my body started some kind of jerks to restart the oxygen flow (think convulsions, sigh)...it worked, but I ended up with major rug burn on my face and 2 black eyes.
The number one thing that helped me was Neosporin Pain Relief Ointment, though it looks a bit like vaseline.
I cleansed my wounds with regular soap (the more simple the better), and then applied the Neosporin numerous times a day because the scabs near my eyes cracked everytime I moved my face. But I ended up with no scars and the redness went away pretty quickly too.
But please do NOT put makeup or skin products on any open wounds...you are just asking for contamination, delayed healing, etc.
I know you want to hide it all, but that may not be the best right now...if you can't leave the house without makeup, please consider working from home or calling in sick for a couple of days.
Best of luck, and I hope your healing is rapid! |

What happened tome was I passed out from two things probably.
Lost too muchblood last week when I had some blood taken I'm sure (I bleed toomuch easily, thin blood).
And also the humidity and heat today/
I actually fell flat on my face on the sidewalk.
Came to in an ambulance...scary actually.
The makeup I was thinking of using has this on their website.
It is Abbey St Clare brand.
Excellent for post-laser redness and Rosacea, and to camouflage distended capillaries, blemishes, age spots, and hyperpigmentation.
I figured since it said post-laster redness itmight be ok on irritated skin?
The ingredients are:
Silk Mica, Titanium dioxide, Zinc oxide, Ascorbyl palmitate (Vitamin C), Kosher Magnesium stearate, Silica, Iron Oxides.
Please visit our Mineral Makeup Tips & Tricks for complete application instructions.
But maybeto be safe I'll just applymakeup to wheremy face is bruised. |

I'm so sorry to hear about your fall, Ottawa Shopper.
I agree with bethany, please don't put any make-up on the grazed skin. It will heal far better, faster and with less likelihood of infection if you don't. |

I'm sure the makeup you have above is for after wounds close or are scabbed over completely...not when they are fresh or open in any way! |

Hi there,
So sorry to hear about your fall
I fell in September last year and split my lip, and cut my face (also cracked my teeth 2) .
Its good you got it cleaned up straight away, the doc told me its really important in helping it to heal well. I'm surprised they didn't give u anti biotics though as a precaution. Just wondering if u could check with your doc tomorrow as I was told it was quite important.
To help with healing I was told that once the cuts had healed over ( think it was about a week for me ) to begin using a lotion / oil to prevent scarring. I started off with bio-oil, I massaged this in 4 times a day (gentle massage).
I then found good reviews on the internet for palmers scar serum, I got this and alternated between the two. ( also tried mama mio scar cream but prefered the other 2 products).
Anyway after a while the cuts have healed with hardly any scarring, am very pleased considering what it looked like when I first did it.
I obviously don't know what it would have been like had I not used the scar serums / massaged the area.but imo I really think it helped.
Really hope you start to feel better soon and everything heals well xx |

I am sorry to hear about your fall and injury!
I will third the neosporin recommendation, it will protect your skin with a barrier while preventing infection. |

HI - I hope you had your teeth area radiographed (x rays). You could have sustained damage to the roots that will not show up right away and potentially cause alot of pain and possible tooth loss. You may be able to do some prevention if that is the case.
I would be sure to eat a healthy diet while you heal also. Suggest taking a B complex, 1000 mg C (c is for collagen ) and zinc is good for wound healing and a multi also to cover other basis.
And I know Bethany gave you solid advice about the rest. Good luck. |

Thanks for the get well soon wishes!
My mouth and teeth seem to have gotten quite a lot of the fall.
I actually was sent to the hospital to make sure I did not do anything-and was surprized they did not suggest antibiotic ointment or cleaning off my face more...
I put some store brand neosporin onmy face last night-the on only areas with not as much redness I tried to apply Mario Badscu healing cream and my face looked a bit less red...but then my whole mouth is bruised. (along w nose, chin).
I guess it would be good for losing weight that not being able toeat! |

Hello Ottawa girl!
I“m so sorry for what happened to you. I hope you get well real fast. For bruises I usually take Arnica pellets and ointment, but I don“t know if you can take them with your blood thinning condition. I have some kind of problem with my blood but my doctor told me it was ok to take it when I had surgery or every time I have had surgery. It really helps healing the bruises. They sell them at any nature“s store and you could ask at the clerks how and when to take them and apply them.
Hope you feel better, friend. |

Oh sweetie! That sucks!
I have crazy sensitive skin too, and have found that the Neosporin doesn't break me out - good idea Bethany - but I also have found that if I simmer rosemary leaves for half an hour then dab the liquid on the cuts that the area is cleansed and the area heals more quickly(it is a disinfectant that won't sting and promotes healing). I have done this for friends (both of the human and feline variety) and for my self, and everyone swears it really helps. Are the wounds still open? Because you might want to cover them. Anything that gets into them might slow the healing down. You might feel like a dork for a little while, but your face will heal faster!
Sister sweets has it with the zinc - any time I mangle myself that is what I go to and it speed the whole healing process up.
Poor girl! I wish I could send you soups to eat. Instead here's a hug from me.
Take care! |

First of all, I am so sorry that this has happened to you. How awful.
I am also surprised that they don't refer you to a dermo.
I don't know how much I can help but I will share with you what was given to me for some cosmetic procedures that I wanted done instead of a medical procedure.
BTW, doctors in Ontario was told not to prescribe antibiotic as much. Ministry of Health is concerned that we will get immune to it.
I don't know how raw your skin is and if it is very raw, you would think the doctor would prescribe a cream. If not, wash with Cetaphil or use Dove bar soap. I would not normally suggest that, but you have to wash your wound. Let your skin dry part way and apply Polysporin, triple antibiotics (fast healing formula). Don't apply makeup. Do the same at night and do this for a few days. When the upper part has hardened, use Polysporin during the day and at night, don't use it. Allow it to heal naturally. Eventually it will dry up, feel itchy and peel off. Then apply Polysporin again on the new, fresh skin at night only and during the day, use a safe, nothing special moisturizer like Moisturel or Embryolisse.
I wish you a quick recovery and maybe eating papaya before each meal on empty stomach will help from the inside. I do this and it does work. |

Hi,
thanks for all the advice everyone!
I actually didnot think about every single thig I should do...
My two front teeth hurt an extreme amount, but do not seem loose.
I can't bite down without jumping from pain though, and my toungue is bruised.
I maybe should have gone for a xray, but is a cat scan as good? or does that just show your head? |

I might be waiting to see a Derm for something else and the wait in Ontario is about 1 year almost to see one at a hospital.
I actually had to go to the Derms at the hospital 2 years ago and they were not that useful for me.
I had a very bad allergy to some medications 2 years ago andmy legs looked like theyhave a very bad sunburn on them and everything burned my skin and extreme amount on my legs.
Doctor had toldme to use cortisone cream and that did not help at all.
I finally tried some strange arnical gel (made by Vogel) and that cooled off my skin tons..only problem w that was costand kind of yucky smell.
But I'm willing to overlook that and still use the same product a few times a week.
My face looking at it now has a lot of brusing on my jaw.
I also put on store brand ointment and then a bit of Mario Badescu healing cream on the dryer parts of my face.
The healing cream seems to have helped andmy skin looks muchless red and seems to be h ealing somewhat quicker! |

For that bruise, please buy lots of papaya and eat it at least three time a day, on an empty stomach before each meal. It really help for the inside and a lot of celebrities who get some work done have this as part of their diet.
I know you live in Ottawa and I think you should search for a good dermo who has the Prime Minister's wife would be going to. Go to the best one in Ottawa.
I am going to one where some well know Canadians go to and I have peace of mind that they understand that my health and cosmetic look is important to me. |

I have never heard about the papaya treatment - what does it do? I love the idea of something natural that can help heal. Does it reduce healing time? |

I have been told by my old professor that was her beauty secret and have done some research that eating papaya help reduce bruising. I was completely shocked that she was in her 80's and she was still teaching and she looked like she was in her mid to late 40's. It stated that you want if you want it to work faster, eat it on an empty stomach, especially before a meal.
I drink chamomile tea (caffeine free) to try to bring down any swelling (or bloating) and my Aunt told me that peppermint tea is good for sore stomach. |

I had similar experience when I was 5-month pregnant, fell off from escalator. Both legs hurted badly, not only the skin, also hurting the bones. My son is 8, I still have scar on my 2 legs.
I highly recommend you to go see a dermatologist, I went to derma after I gave birth, he said it was too late and I should see him right after the accident. |

I will call a local dentist today!
I had a Cat scan done at the hospital though.
Would that show anything of my teeth?
I am a bit worried aboutmy front teeth as I can not eat anything hard without jumping from pain!
Not fun at all
right now I'm having yogurt, pudding, rice based ice cream.
Hopefully my dental bill will not be too much. I needed 2 teeth fixed before and now maybe 2 others...and have no insurance too.
I actually had to cancel a dentist apt I had made for today after I fell as my mouth is much too bruised to keep open comfortably.
Maybe next week I'll try and go! |
